  1. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) See, i think Edwards would be Obama's best VP. They are very ideologically similar. That would make for a unified ticket. What would Richardson bring to the ticket? Just curious, I really dont know. Edwards is ideologically similar to Obama, but politically, they function entirely differently. Think of VP candidates as filling in some holes for the Presidential candidate. What are Obama's biggest holes? Lack of executive leadership experience, lack of foreign policy work, lack of federal experience generally, and a history of being a bit too tax-happy for the national election. Now look at Richardson... governor of NM, he's been pretty successful in bringing that state up the ladder a few rungs in wages, education and business... he's got more foreign policy experience than any other candidate in either party, including being the former UN ambassador... he's been a Congressman, Energy secretary (a very nice bonus right there, in the current climate), an ambassador and a special envoy for multiple Presidents... and he has a history in NM of maintaining a balanced budget, but also bringing in a lot of new businesses. What does Edwards do for those weaknesses? Not much at all. His senatorial exprience is helpful, but its the same resume item Obama already has. In other areas, he really brings nothing to the table that Obama needs. So why would you make him VP if you were Obama? One other thing. Obama is campaigning on change - not the same old, which is Clinton's mantra. Why bring in the '04 VP candidate?
  2. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) Well, i think it's pretty obvious that Edwards wont endorse Clinton. Would Richardson? He might so he can suck up and be VP. Clinton has her VP already - Evan Bayh. I'd bet on it. Richardson would be a great foil for Obama in many ways - he'd be an ideal VP choice for him.
  3. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 11:18 AM) And exactly what type of proof should he post on a message board? I hope he's correct and I think he's a good poster. I don't know why you of all people are calling him out though. Nothing personal but he did what you do all the time, make statements about what'll happen without naming a source or providing proof. He's being called out because there is a difference between what most people here like to say... "I bet we sign *insert name*" or "We are totally getting *insert name*", and leave it at that. This guy has been so insistent over so many posts, calling any other speculation of even a chance otherwise as "wrong"... he may have an inside source, but he may also be like the guy posting that crap yesterday on WSI about his buddies and their radio shows.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:46 AM) I think it's funny how people think the decision will come down to which team Hunter thinks has a better chance to be competitive. It only has to do with money and years on the contract. Probably, but not 100% necessarily. If the offers are very close, some players will look at other factors.
  5. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) Thanks yo. HP and the Deathly Hallows was great. I'll probably go with the last two. Figures that today, day of the drive, is the day we get our first snowfall up here. Tremendous. Yeah, I am sitting here in Burlington, MA, just down the road from NH, watching the snow fall. And I have to fly back to O'Hare tonight. Stupendous.
  6. Well, finally a Prez candidate is getting the right idea on this one. Too bad its Mr. Scumbag Giuliani. Rudy endorses NorthSideSox72's Virtual Wall Plantm.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 10:19 AM) It really looks like people are united around Obama as the "not Hillary" candidate. If Edwards finishes third in Iowa, he will circle the drain quickly. As soon as Edwards and/or Richardson drop out, whomever they endorse will immediately become the frontrunner.
  8. This should maybe be in SLaM, seen by more people. If anyone wants a good location to hunt in SW Wisconsin (just across the river from NE Iowa and SW Minnesota) that gets minimal hunting use, you can use my property, under certain conditions. PM me if you want further info.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) For some more fun, CNN has a New Hampshire poll out. Giuliani 16 (24) Romney 33 (25) McCain 18 (18) Thompson 4 (13) Huckabee 5 Paul 8 (4) Trend lines in brackets. None given for Huck. Thompson and Rudy are literally in free fall. Look 2 posts up from yours. You seem to keep posting stuff that I already posted lately. You have me on ignore, don't you?
  10. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) http://abcnews.go.com/PollingUnit/Vote2008...7274&page=1 Whoa. First poll with Obama ahead in Iowa. IA starting to trend towards Obama. I have to say that makes me happy.
  11. Rasmussen with a new national poll out. Again, national polls are really only interesting for big changes, trends, movements... but that's where this one seems significant... Giuliani 24% Romney 14% Thompson 14% Huckabee 12% McCain 10% Paul 5% Here is what is really interesting in this one, looking at the trends. For one thing, Giuliani's 24% ties for the lowest he has shown in a national poll in months. Huckabee's 12% ties for the highest he has ever shown. McCain's 10% is the lowest he has shown in months (aside from a Zogby poll, which we'll ignore because its Zogby). And Thompson's 14% and his next-most-recent 12% in a Fox poll are indicating a downturn for him even on the national stage.
  12. Well, Blago has called the Illinois General Assembly into special session again this time for the transit blockage. He did actually make a new suggestion, that I like in a vacuum sort of way - that gas taxes should be redirected to transit. The question is... what then to cut? Because I am sure that money was going to something else before. So as usual, Blago comes up with just enough of part of a plan to sound like the underpants gnomes from South Park, then tells the General Assembly to magically make that change without interrupting other funding or creating new taxes. He has no suggestions of what to cut, if that's what he wants. And around and around we go... Step 1... Collect underpants! Step 2... ... *pause* Step 3... Profit!
  13. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) I've got a long ass ride home tomorrow for Thanksgiving (~15-16 hours). I need a good audiobook suggestion, preferably fiction. Hook it up, friend. Don't know which are available on audiobook, but lately, I've been on the best run of books I can remember in a long long time. 4 in a row, various genres, all really great and I highly recommend them. Not sure what genres you like - some of these may not apply. Here they are, in the order I read them... --Final Harry Potter Book by JK Rowling --Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides --No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy --The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold Enjoy.
  14. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) God I just hate the idea of going after Juan Pierre v 1.0 when we already have Juan Pierre v. 2.0, the faster, cheaper, and better operating version already.
  15. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) Unless Gonzalez thinks Kenny is being disingenuous when he said he acquired Cabrera with the intention of resigning him, I'm not sure why his classification as a type A free agent means much. Whoa hey, the published the $ number? $1.5M? So, the total savings payroll-wise is $4.5M.
  16. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) No, agreed, Thome's days at 1B are over. 1B are not that tough to find but agree it would have to be a very unique and special deal to trade Konerko, for the reasons KW mentioned and you emphasize as well. Its too bad Crede is a Boras client and has to be traded. If a deal could be worked with Konerko leaving, I'd be more than OK with having Crede at 3B and Fields at 1B. Especially if a Konerko trade brought the team a serious player for LF, to go along with Hunter in CF. Or even sign someone from the money you save from trading Konerko, if you trade PK for a starting pitcher. How about this lineup... Cabrera, SS Hunter, CF Thome, DH Dye, RF Jenkins, LF Fields, 1B Crede, 3B Pierzynski, C Richar, 2B Plus whatever starting pitcher could perhaps be had for PK added to Buehrle, Vaz, Conteras and Danks/Floyd/Gio.
  17. QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) Alright I'll stop posting then... Feel free to post. Just try not to wade into a thread you haven't read and post an article like that. Best to make sure its not yet posted or discussed. That way, we don't get threads with the same articles 20 times.
  18. QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) Sorry I don't read all 33 pages of this thread. Probably best not to post in it then.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 08:30 PM) Call Torii. Even better, I think Kap should show up at this dinner with the Rangers' people... wearing a Hunter White Sox jersey.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) I hope this is true. Torii Hunter has gotten my full endorsement. Its one poster on WSI, who is claiming that he/she has a friend in Texas who heard it on the radio (about the meeting with Texas being cancelled)... and, coincidentally, this poster also has a Sox fan friend in MSP who is saying some radio show is reporting the deal done. Seems pretty sketchy to me. But I hope its true... as long as the money isn't overly outrageous.
  21. Wow. Within 1 page of this thread we have one poster saying Fields is a future GG 3B, and another poster saying he's a butcher.
  22. NH Poll... Romney 33%, +8 McCain 18%, +-0 Giuliani 16%, -8 Paul 8%, +4 Huckabee 5%, ? Thompson 4%, -13 Tancredo 1%, +-0 Wow. Thompson crashes out big time... Ron Paul in 4th and now approaching double digits... Romney building on his lead... Giuliani continues his freefall.
  23. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) Things started going downhill after '05 when KW's only goal of the offseason was to improve our bench. Paid relatively big money for Mack/Cintron...yet when these guys had to step in due to injuries last year they were worse than most teams rookies who stepped up and they have no upside. Moral of the story get young talent vs. keeping around older utility guys. I also think Uribe offensively will be terrible as a sub and that ozzie will have a different lineup everyday to keep him fresh which results in no hitters getting comfortable or in a rhythm. So.... Thome and Vaz were bench players?
  24. Beowolf was better than I thought it would be. A fun little romp. Nothing deep, not great cinema - but good popcorn fodder.
  25. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) Has the amount of money the Sox are getting been confirmed yet? Or -- asking the question I really want answered -- how many dollars do the Sox finish 'ahead', here? Garland 08 = $12M Cabrera 08 = $9M So, the differential is $3M. Add the cash amount (?) to that for your net savings.
