QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 11:15 AM) Um, didn't we already know exactly that? Wasn't that exactly why he resigned? (forgive me if my memory of my high school years and politics isn't perfect, but I could have swore that the december 97 sequence went: impeachment articles come up before a House committee, Gingrich's affair exposed, Gingrich replaced by Livingston, Livingston's affair exposed, Livingston replaced by Hastert) You were in high school in 1997????

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) He's a lot better than Pods at bunting. Pods SUCKS at non bunt for hit bunts (aka sacrifices). As for stolen bases....your right to an extent, but if your going to get caught 20 times like Pods, your killing the purpose. Stolen bases are only as good as your success rate and how often you get on base in general. I agree about Pods' rate. He attempts about 10 to 20 more times in a full year than he should - he forces it. His rate was low 70's in percentage in 2005, then fell to the 60's in 2006. If he is in the 70's, I'm OK with it, though better than 75% would be ideal. If Erstad can lay down bunts better than Pods, that's a small bonus. If Gooch led off, you'd probably get a .350-.360 OBP and a 70 to 75% steal rate on 20-ish attempts, if he was in that role. Plus good situational hitting, and some power.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:29 AM) Erstad is a better leadoff hitter than Pods IMO. He'll get on base a bit more, and won't make nearly as many outs on the bases getting caught stealing and trying horrible bunts. I like my leadoff hitters to be capable of stealing bases a little more often. Here is a question - how is Erstad at bunting? Not of huge importance, just wondering if anyone knows, and if he still has enough speed to try them occasionally for hits. I still think Gooch would be a good leadoff guy.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:24 AM) Ozzie loved Freddy a lot more and we dealt him too. This is for sure Pods last year here, so we'd deal him. Good point. So throw Pods in the pool too. Who leads off then? I'm OK with Iguchi leading off, but that won't happen. It would be Erstad, and that is less than ideal, to me.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:20 AM) If you can swing a deal to bring Rowand back for spare parts, you pull the trigger. ...and that's all I have to say about that. See: Rowand in New York Yankees series. Point being: you know what you have in Rowand. That's a lot more than can be said of most of the White Sox outfielders--including this team's starting left-fielder. Exactly. If some combination of guys like Tracey, Rogo, Phillips, etc. can get Rowand... then do it. Heck, maybe even something like Owens and one of those pitchers, so that Philly gets an OF back, I'd probably do. If it takes MacD or even Logan though, that's too much.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) And when you compare Eduardo Perez' .863 to Podsednik's .674, Terrero's .676 and Erstad's .722 I'd say 'destroy' is a fair verb, perhaps a little exaggerated but true none the less. If we are still talking vs lefties... Toby Hall had an .833 OPS in 2006. Not a bad bench option there. But this does bring up a rules question... what are the rules regarding players going from DH to field positions or back? In other words, what if Hall is your DH and AJ is at catcher, and AJ gets hurt? Can Hall just slide over, or not? Even if not, Hall being on the team already helps the Sox versus lefties when he plays C.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 05:54 PM) No, in other words...administrations usually hired people to fill those roles when they came into office, and fired them with cause, to be replaced by competent folks who are approved by the Senate. But with the Patriot Act, the Bush Admin. was given permission to fill those jobs with temporary employees without having to get Senate approval. And thus, they decided that a good motivation to fire those people was either that they were prosecuting too many Republicans compared to Democrats or that some of the Bush Admin's friends wanted a couple years in a plum spot on their resumes. The politically-motivated mid-term removals of these folks is what Depodesta et al. are claiming is unprecedented. The White House as a whole probably didn't do anything illegal, but that's only because the law is so weak as to not cover what they actually did. Except of course for Alberto Gonzalez a couple weeks ago testifying under oath before Congress that there was no political motivation at all behind the firings, which there are witnesses to contradict, so someone is lying there. Anyway, if nothing else, it's a pretty clear ethics violation to have members of the House and Senate contacting and pressuring US Attorneys regarding cases that they were investigating, so there's at least 3 or so people who need to spend some time before their respective ethics committees, which is why Domenici is already lawyered up. Oh I agree that Domenici's actions were ethics violations, like I said earlier. But the firings are just more poorly timed is all. It was stupid before, and now its both stupid and insulting.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) CAP has a couple of notable Clinton Admin. names on the record talking about the difference between the usual change-over of Federal Prosecutors at the start of an administration and what the Bush Administration has done here. That's former Clinton Chief of Staff John Podesta and here's Mary Jo White, who served as a U.S. Attorney from 1993-2002. So in other words, political stupidity was happening before, but BushCo just took it to higher and even more scuzzy levels. That sounds about right.

Its now 7-4 Rocks, going to bottom of 8. Boooooooooooooone in to pitch.
-
Rogowski now PH for Konerko. Anyone else find it interesting that Rogo is getting so much work in ST? Trade bait perhaps?

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Agreed. But thanks to Bobby Jenks and Aaron Rowand, the game was still very much in doubt until Pods ended it. And I'm glad we didn't have to trot Bobby out there for the 10th. He looked like he was about to cry once Houston tied it up. I'm not sure he could've held them the rest of the way. I'm with ya. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) The crowd was much louder and crazier for konerko's Disagree.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) That is false Why did this investigation start? Why did this investigation continue after Fitz found out who the leaker was? He knew 3 mos. prior to talking to Libby that Libby was not the leaker, so why continue to question people? Its called shaking the tree. Its what investigators do. Fitzgerald isn't motivated by politics, he's motivated by his own career goals. Once they let him off the leash, he'll chase down and prosecute anything he can sink his teeth into. That's what good prosecutors do. They help make the system work.

Good inning for MacD. 2 K's and a groundout to himself.
-
AJ, Uribe and Owens all walk to start the inning.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) Easily, being at the game, it was much cooler than PODS. In fact Crede's double in ALCS game 2 could be my second fav ever. Crede's double in that game was beyond awesome. That whole inning in fact - AJ going to 1st on the K, Ozuna stealing 2nd, and Crede's double - best inning ever.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) PK's homer was the turning point in that whole series. I can honestly say Konerko's homer was my favorite sports memory ever. The Konerko slam was awesome, but for me, the Pods walk-off was even sweeter. And yeah, I was there too.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) I think Baker, the next batter, homers. Even with the unearned runs, you don't like to see Floyd give up so many runners. What are you, watching the Rockies' coverage or something?
-
Error by Crede puts the Rocks in the lead.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) All I can hope is that Perez makes that list over Terrero.... Forgive my ignorance, but, which Perez are you referring to? Neither of the Perez' I see getting time in ST are outfielders. Or is that intentional?

QUOTE(hi8is @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 02:55 PM) anderson sure is making it easier for the management to take terrero instead of him. Here is my bet on how it falls out... Pods won't be ready for Opening Day - he opens the season at AAA doing rehab, for the first couple weeks of baseball. The team will carry Erstad, Anderson AND Terrero to start the year. Then those first two weeks of actual baseball will decide which of Terrero or Anderson gets sent to AAA (more so than Spring Training). So, the opening day position players would be: OF: Dye Erstad Ozuna Anderson Terrero IF: Konerko Thome Iguchi Uribe Cintron Crede Mack C: AJ Hall Plus 11 pitchers makes 25.

Gooch walks, then steals 2nd. Anyone consider him for the leadoff spot?

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 02:47 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/mlb/gameda...1&brand=cws bottom left hand corner. Thanks! I couldn't get that either, I just had the lame box score. This is way better.

Holliday with a hit for the Rocks. Cancel the post-game show, there goes Floyd's no-no.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) You're right, but I hate the fact that each was politically motivated. That's the part that makes me sick. There are a lot of things to hate about politics. But I think its important to note when it does good things as well. If it requires politics to find a rabid dog to sick on lying politicians, then so be it. I'd be more upset if it didn't happen at all.
