Does anyone still have Ozzie's email address? I think I might make a personal plea for BA.
-
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) Farmer and Singleton doing a great job today. I dont have much faith in Aardsma or Sisco at this point. I hope neither make the big team - they both belong in Charlotte.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) Cintron grounds out to first. Erstad: 57 plate appearances. As I said yesterday, that one number seems excessive. But frankly, I could understand why Ozzie would need to see more of him that BA, just because Erstad is new. You guys may all be right, but, its not set in stone, and Ozzie has a history of pulling something weird for the final roster. I just don't think its over for BA yet.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) So does Brian get to have an AB today, or are we having him play against the minor leaguers getting ready for Charlotte. BA = 39 plate appearances. Terrero = 30 plate appearances. I know all of you have decided that Ozzie has decided, but... he hasn't, officially. If he decides to demote BA for no good reason, then I'll be as mad as you are. But right now, BA is getting plenty of chances, and doing pretty well with those chances. So I'll wait.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) Terrero flies out on first pitch. Guy strikes out his first two AB's, you think he might take a few pitches. Didn't he swing at the first pitch after a 4-pitch walk yesterday too?
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) First batter, think it was Alfonzo, flies out to RF. Sh*tty. 6.55 ERA, 1.73 WHIP, 5 k's. Santos doubles over Podsednik's head. Oh, and Frandsen made an out, somehow. And he was 7.71 ERA in 2005 ST, I just saw. Looks like he just never pitches well in ST. Must be slow to get loose.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) With the earlier tightness, I believe its all a sign of an injury. I was hoping otherwise. But I am starting to wonder if there is something to that. Anyone know how Bobby threw in spring last year?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:43 PM) SI pimped out their MLB team pages. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/...eams/white_sox/ And they have a link to Soxtalk and other sites as well. Cool.

How many PB and WP was that from Jenks in one inning??? That is worrisome.
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:17 PM) So, does Hall play a lot of first base? Is he a viable back up there? If so, he could make a solid guy to spell Thome, with PK at DH. But that means AJP has to play, so if its against a lefty, you only replace one of them instead of both. So I don't see that happening too often. I really wish they'd consider using Pablo as a DH against lefties. With the power righthanded bats we already have (Dye, Crede, PK, Gooch), our DH does not necessarily have to be a power guy.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) I really hope are pitchers have a game plan this spring and are just working up there arms, because they havent been to good. Well... Javy has given up 3 runs, but two of those were from botched defense. He's given up 1 run that is really his, in 4 innings.

Hate to say it, but I'm glad to see Erstad have some troubles in CF. Maybe that helps Ozzie see tha BA is the guy to have out there, and Erstad is best used as a backup.

Mackowiak as POSSIBLE trade piece - speculative

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) touche`.. just when we acquired mack i got so excited and i still feel like we haven't used him effectively. we have too many backups on this team. I think we have the right amount of backups, and the right ones too - we just have a manager who doesn't use them properly. -
I just noticed that Ray Durham is hitting cleanup.

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) singleton said he couldn't tell whether pods did it on purpose or not, knowing pods i'll say misplay. Yeah I have the audio too, it seemed like they thought it was a fake then weren't sure.

QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:36 PM) why not get rid of pablo so mack is of more use to us, and he can take over infield spots more, where his subbing there would give us more power instead of a slap hitter like ozuna. Mack hit 5 HR last year in about a half season of AB's. Pablo hit 2. I don't see much difference there. -
QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) haha, pods misplay helps us. I got the impression it was a feign, not a misplay. I was goona say thanks to Pods for actually showing some D. Is anyone watching? Couldn't tell on the audio.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) I know he's a great SABR pitcher or w/e you call a pitcher who has great splits, and is signed long term, but the Chris Young/Javy deal hurts more and more by the day. And it hurt really bad the day it happened. Really? What has Chris Young accomplished so far? Not much. He may turn out to be great, but at this point, he hasn't given AZ anything yet. Javy, on the other hand, despite his struggles getting past the 5th for the first two-thirds of last year, finished the year with not-horrible numbers. And he got quite good once he made some adjustments in August and September. He'd be a #2, 3 or 4 starter on most teams. I'll take that over the Young question mark at this point. Now five years from now, it MAY turn out to have been a lousy trade. But right now, I'd say we got the better end of the deal.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) Not trying to threadjack the Goracle thread here... /ducks But, we're doing a safety survey for a mining company (who incidentally just got in big into the Chicago market). We're doing TWO full blown surveys (damn scope creep)... and we got NO results back until this week (still don't have them all) and we're supposed to do our dry run presentation Saturday. There's no friggin' way. Now, if I take my soxtalk attitude, I'd say "who cares, it costs too much...!!!" I kind of enjoyed some of those simulations and studies, because there was the pressure was entirely artificial. Your job doesn't depend on it. So I tried to take those opportunities to take some chances and go some different routes than people expected. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Great learning experience either way, though. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) This MBA's killing me. It better be worth it. It will be. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) If you enjoy the standard of living you have now and do not want it to go lower, American cannot be the only country to institute, and keep, the steep cuts that the Goracle and his minions follow. The economy will suffer, wages will suffer, productivity will suffer. If you think we lose jobs at a fast pace now to China and India, just wait, because they will do nothing in the way of changes because it would be 'bad for business'. In your rush to dekapitate Kap, you all seemed to miss that point in his posts. Yes, we can do things. but if we are the only one, we will lose in every area to the countries that do nothing. China builds coal plants like they are Starbucks. Its not 'They pollute, why can't we", its "if we stop and they don't, they win". Except the "not only us" think is being used as an excuse for us not to do anything. The only way to do this effectively, and get buy-in from other countries (and helpful pressure from Europe on China/India), is if we change first. They win? Please. The jobs going to China are not the ones this country needs. This country has to be out on the edge, not doing simply manufacturing. If you really think we're going to be able to hold onto those non-skilled or mid-skilled labor jobs under ANY circumstances, barring complete protectionism, you are dreaming. -

I have a challenge for people in this thread. I want someone to give me one good argument why climate change and environmental issues generally should NOT be one of the country's top priorities. Because so far in this thread, the only arguments I've seen against that are... --Al Gore is an idiot (aka kill the messenger) --Other countries like India and China pollute a lot too (aka Johnny down the street does it, why can't I?) --Of the thousands of peer-reviewed scientific articles out there, one or two might disagree with the consensus (aka denial, or reaching) --The earth can't be destroyed (aka missing the point - of course it can't, but it can do damage to us) --Climate change has been happening for eons (this is a valid argument on its face, except that the climate (temp and CO2) changes up until recently are miniscule in comparison to the current ones) Can anyone provide any sort of logical and/or scientific argument against the reality that human beings have heavily influenced changes in the atmosphere, and that we need to do something serious about it right now? -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) How many times do I have to say that it IS a problem, but it's not totally up to us? I have probably said it about 25 times in this thread. But of course, I'm just ignorant and blind to the Goracle's "facts". You say it IS a problem, then dismiss Gore's specific solutions as 100% B.S. So... are you saying there is a better way? -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) So your solution would be what exactly? In case you haven't noticed, the people unhappy with Gore's crusade don't have any solutions to offer. Just complaints. -

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 11:01 AM) Seeing as how India and China are now darn close to the world's biggest polluters, THEY need to do something about it before we do, or at least at the same time. Why do you think China and India will become the world's leading economies in the next 15 years? It's in part due to the fact that the US has already a lot of environmental restrictions. Are they bad? Not necessarily. Could we do more? Yes. But it's not up to America, as the Goracle says. Um... It was Al Gore, who is an American... talkting to the American Congress. Are you actually going to use the "they won't do it so neither will we" defense here? That's makes about as much sense as MAD did. For US, the ball is in OUR court, first and foremost. Our changes would be huge. Then, once we get our own house in order, we should start working these other countries in any way we can. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2007 -> 09:55 AM) http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1...in_detroit.html Smells like an investment opportunity to me, if you have the cash. I mean, Detroit is in shambles, but $7,000 for a house on a city lot?!
