NorthSideSox72 replied to knightni's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) for a guy thomes age and size...he slides very well He also runs better than he gets credit for. He's faster on the basepaths than Konerko, Crede or AJ. Not that that's FAST, but, for a guy his age and build, he has a little quickness. -

No rain in the city yet today. Game about to start. Lineup... O-Cab Lexi Q PK Thome Dye Swish Crede Hall -
I am sure that if you could get Crede to sign a good deal (4 years or less) and stay with the Sox, that most people here would be happy to keep him around. Its just that, the chances of that are about 1 in 100.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 12:46 PM) Thats interesting to me that you find The Last Crusade to be the worst. Most of my friends find Temple of Doom to be the worst. I dont know, I appreciate them all in a different way(keep in mind I havent seen the new one yet). Raiders of the Lost Ark is more of a drama, thr Temple of Doom is more light hearted and fun, and the Last Crusade actually gives a little background on Indy and what he is about and why. I like them all, i hope I like the new one. I tend to agree that Temple of Doom was the worst of the first three. But having seen the most recent one, it was far worse than any of the first three, IMO.

Gaffes, Misstatements, and other verbal stumbles
NorthSideSox72 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) It depends on the gaffe. I'll laugh at "Fool me once, shame on, shame on you, 8 second pause, can't get fooled again" and ones of that order. But gaffes can hurt. The stock market took a brief dive early in Bush's term when he spoke about "Currency devaluation" when he meant to say deflation. Not having a clear understanding of the Sunni/Shi'ite split and constantly fouling that up leads to things like declaring that the Iranians are supporting the Sunni insurgents and leads to false strategies. And then there's the "The British Government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa" level... The Iraq uranium lies, and the repeated Sunni/Shia misunderstandings, are not gaffes in my view. One was a fabrication, the other is a lack of knowledge. That's not the stuff I am referring to here. -
Gaffes, Misstatements, and other verbal stumbles

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) Its just another excuse to not talk about important things... ^^^^^ -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) Very true...but if you're going to give him credit for doing "More with less", I think that it's a valid point that when he's done the most, he's had some of the best, most juiced up players in history. Over his career, sure, he's had some greats. But looking at his TEAMS, up and down, I think he's among the best modern managers in taking teams beyond what they seemed capable of.

Much as I despise him personally, I think Tony LaRussa has to be in this discussion. Very few have been able to do more with less.

The amount of posts in here lately that simply highlight some verbal gaffe of one candidate or the other is staggering to me. Does the occasional misstep in a speech really effect people's opinions that much? Its kind of laughable to me, people will gleefully point out some stupid little misstatement of the candidate they dislike, then get all defensive when their own candidate does the same thing. No candidate, in the current age of modern media, will be able to go the campaign without a few mistakes like this. Its just not possible. So why make an issue of it? The other side of this argument, I suppose, is that if the candidate is doing it often, then it starts to make you wonder if he or she will look bad as the leader of our nation. And if it gets really bad, like Dubya bad, then I can see that. But I don't see either of these candidates as being nearly that bad. Do you?

Saw Kung Fu Panda last night. I'm not a Jack Black fan, and I generally don't get too into animated stuff. That said, I was impressed - I actually enjoyed it. The opening sequence alone was worth the price of admission. Recommended. There was a preview for the new Star Wars animated film (Clone Wars or something). I'm watching the preview, and I'm thinking... well, the Star Wars movies have gotten so bad that they are cartoon-like anyway. Might as well go full boat.

I assume the offset here is Ryan O'Malley falls to the pen or is demoted, yes?

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) And there could be more. One of the funny things about market movements is how much things can shake when there's no discernible news. There usually is news, but it's not always easy to track it down when you're not on the ground. THose sorts of things cause temporary spikes and falls. The overall trend though, is caused by much larger factors.

34 (1020) - Marcus Semien, SS, St. Mary's HS (CA). He actually has a scouting video.
-
33 (990) - Edward Young, SS, Christian HS (CA). 5'11", 180, born 10/19/89.
-
32 (960) - Concepcion Marrero, 2B, Reynoldsburg HS (OH). 5'11" 190, born 6/2/1989. I wonder if he is related to Christian Marrero, who plays for Kanny.

QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 03:00 PM) Can someone take over, got to run. I'll try to keep up.

QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 01:53 PM) Round 31: James McCann, catcher, Dos Pueblos High School. Switch hitter, 6'2, 185. 6/13/90. Switch hitting catcher? That's kind of a rarity. I don't know this guy from Adam, but, if he has any kind of talent at all at the high school level, seems like a good shot. How many catchers is this for us now? Three? Good stuff. The system needs more of those, and they are always in demand.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) What, have I ever blamed this on speculators? I've been the one blaming this on the planet running out of oil! Actually, I haven't seen you say either way. I was just playin with ya.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) Thank god. I can still consider voting for Obama. Edwards brings absolutely nothing to the ticket anyway. I don't like Edwards much either, but, he definitely would have brought some political power to the ticket. He takes in a crowd that Obama has a hard time with. I still think its Richardson.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) Only when the price reaches a point where there's more oil in the market than there is demand for. If it was a speculatory bubble, it would cause a glut of supply to build on the market before it bursts. Hey SS, I see Balta has come to understand the dark side. ^^^

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) They are getting one hell of a workout today, that is for sure. The only thing you really see with these volume levels is the emini SP. It was freaky, the few times I went on the floor at the Merc or the Board, seeing people using the interfaces and programs I had built or changed. I just kept cringing, hoping they wouldn't break.

24 (720) - Brett Graffy, RHP, Notre Dame. 6'2", 195, Junior at ND, born 3/12/87. After this I'm off the board for a bit, so, someone else feel free to update this thread as picks come in.

The gun in the video had him hitting 91. And this is a "raw" high schooler.

QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) I love the fact that we're getting a good mix of pitchers and position players. That 22nd round pick is a monster...6'3", 225 lbs? Nice. Check the 23rd round pick - 6'7", 280. Damn.

QUOTE (Cowch @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) Wouldn't he be turning 20 in December? Sorry, yes, you are correct.
