Miranda seems to have responded well to the demotion. In his 8 games so far with Kanny, he has a .286 average, .444 OBP, and has 6 walks against just 1 strikeout. Since it seems he can handle Low A pitching for contact, it would be nice to see him develop a little power there this year. If he can at least add some doubles and triples, with his solid plate discipline (has pretty consistently walked more than struck out), he should be back on track to do well.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 27, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) also no Jindal (sp?) for McCain? Wasn't he one of the 3 people McCain had a meeting with? He was at a meeting at McCain's ranch this past weekend, yes.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 27, 2008 -> 01:32 PM) Obama v McCain in Iowa... Why they keep pumping out those polls with Hagel in there, and no Richardson or Bayh, is beyond me.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 24, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Hmm, whenever I hear stories about someone being killed by an animal, I usually go back to the same thought. If someone very close to me was killed by an animal, I think I'd probably kill as many of said animal as possible. I know they say you can't take revenge on nature, but I'd give it a shot. Usually in the U.S., when a wild animal (bear, mountain lion) kills someone, they go out and kill it. People think its because it has a "taste for human blood", which may be sort of true (though more about ease of prey than taste), but its not the only reason for it. Its also partially to sate the public thirst for blood in revenge. They don't want a bunch of people going out and killing every *insert animal here* they see in response.

Should Konerko be put on the DL to heal his thumb?
NorthSideSox72 replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 27, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) Yea, I think PK just needs a rest and to heal up...there is no way he's actually this bad all of a sudden... Actually, very slow starts are not that new to Paulie. He's had a few seasons where he was below the Mendoza line for quite a while, before getting hot. The question here is, are we seeing that again, or is it the wrist? -

QUOTE (The Beast @ May 27, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) What if the Sox put Konerko on the DL and called up Brad Eldred to play first base? He's been hitting the ball well---but I'm not sure about his defense. Would Eldred be a viable option? Already brought up in this thread by multiple posters. Yes, I think he's the best option if Paulie goes to the DL. But its hard to say if a short DL stint will really help him at this point (see ptatc's post). -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2008 -> 07:50 AM) Utility is utility, I'm not concerned. And I think you'll see O-Cab get hotter at the plate, and sign a new contract during the season ala Dye/MB. Just my opinion. I think Ramirez/Richar are the candidates for 2B. But certainly, the Sox would be in a better position to make the type of trades I mentioned if they signed O-Cab first, which they may do. Or, do a deal that didn't involve Richar/Getz. Maybe just Getz. i'd like to revise this earlier statement. If OC is going to be calling the scorer's booth regularly (which I just read he has been doing), and saying he really misses SoCal... then I hope he doesn't re-sign. Hopefully, he'll get his act together.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 27, 2008 -> 10:50 AM) Didn't see anyone posts on this, but Ozzie responded: Orlando Cabrera Will be a Free Agent TCSN Errors look bad, especially when tied to a gold glover heading to free agency, which is why Cabrera would make some phone calls to the press box. A perceived poor glove and weakening bat won’t get you much on the open market (actually, it still will, just not a REALLY lot of money. Some teams are stupid like that.) Cabrera being charged with errors on non-routine plays sucks for him. Then again, shouldn’t a gold glove shortshop have high expectations of himself? Nothing is too hard of a play in the minds of the very best. If Cabrera is the very best, which is what his gold glove suggests, then he should be more upset with himself for missing it than the scorekeeper calling it as he sees it. Even so, those things tend to even themselves out. Cabrera’s glove has been far from gold glovish this season … unjust error calls simply make up for the unjust non-calls. If Cabrera is really making these calls … well, his status as a gold glover will be the least of his image problems. Team player? In question. Good way to sum it up, and a good move by Ozzie. This kind of s*** pisses me off, it does nothing but create problems. It certainly does nothing to help the team. I'm glad Ozzie sent him a message, and did it in exactly that way - a strong but not overwhelming hint. Hopefully that takes, because OC is finally starting to look decent on the field. If continues this immature B.S., I'll be among the first to start booing him.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ May 27, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) I think Obama should join McCain in Iraq. They can see it together and talk about the situation in that country. I think that's a great idea, but I LOL'd when I read that quote about McCain saying he'd educate Obama along the way. Not that he couldn't do that, but its just such a political statement, couched in this air of cooperation, I had to laugh.

QUOTE (BobDylan @ May 27, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) Is Jerry Owens healthy? I wouldn't mind moving Swisher to 1B and putting Owens in CF for 15 days just to see what happens. Healthy? Yes. A good option? Maybe not. He's hitting .217 right now at Charlotte, with zero power, for a stunningly low .561 OPS. And while he may have more range and slightly better glove work than Swisher in CF, his arm is weak. I'd rather see Wise stay with the team, or call up Brad Eldred who has 18 freakin' home runs and 49 RBI in just 182 at bats, if you are going to DL Paulie. -
QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ May 27, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) I believe we only signed Alexei for 3 years. That might be the reason they didn't stick him in AAA. Richar and Getz have options so I would want Alexei getting the playing time over Richar. Does Richar fit the utility role? He was brought up as a SS and played SS in Charlote last night. This way we can stick Alexei at SS and Richar 2b next season. 4 years for Alexei. Richar isn't great defensively, he shows some stellar stuff at times, but is erratic. I don't know enough about Getz' defense to know how he compares in that area.

Your first place Chicago White Sox!

QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 27, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) The last 3 games he came in with a tie score, so I wouldn't say occasionally. He also has 12 Holds and 2 wins which means the games were close when he entered on numerous occasions. sure, he's doing great. No argument on that. I'm just saying, you could look at the closer and primary set-up men on most teams and see very similar results. Its the nature of their roles. -

QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 27, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) 20-3 when Linebrink pitches. chicken/egg. Linebrink pitches with a lead almost always, occasionally in a tie situation. -
QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ May 27, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) Does Getz have a lot of speed? He seems like a well rounded player. Utility role? He's been labeled by many as a future utility guy. He's hitting .301 with a .360 OBP so far in AAA this year, plus a little power (more than his usual in fact), for an .820 OPS. Last year in AA he hit .299, .382 OBP, but a little less power. He is primarily a secondbaseman, but he also plays a little SS each year. He appears to have some speed, stealing double digits in bases each of the last two seasons. I think its possible he may even be future starter material, but its hard to say. His numbers have been solid and consistent-to-improved the last few seasons as he progessed up the system.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) Its going to be taxes. There has already been talk about raising Social Security taxes, income taxes, a windfall profits tax, and a millionaires tax off of the top of my head. I am sure I am missing others. Hammer this and tie it into the higher local taxes for everything, its not a difficult sell if you ask me. People are taxed out. I agree that will be among the top 3 or 4 issue for almost everyone. And the GOP will have their usual advantage there, but maybe not to quite the same extent, given their change in tack over the past 8 years. Actually question for anyone who knows this - has McCain indicated favorability on any new or increased taxes? I know about his flip-flopping on the Bush tax cuts, but I am curious if McCain has commented on Soc Sec tax cap, oil-related taxes, etc.

QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ May 27, 2008 -> 08:46 AM) SS, 2b, and utility are all open next season. Ramirez is our SS next season and Richar our 2b. Utility is utility, I'm not concerned. Alexei also blew a hit-and-run last night. He's still got a lot of learning to do, but he does have a lot of talent. The White Sox seem to have a plethora of 2nd base talent that will be ready in 2009 - Ramirez, Richar, Getz... but none of them are really ready THIS year. I'd still like to see the Sox make an offer for Durham, who is an FA after this season so he's just a rental, if the team is still in it come July. I'd think that a deal involving one of Richar or Getz and one or two pitching prospects would be workable, given the rental situation and the Giants' desire to rebuild.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 27, 2008 -> 07:31 AM) The Democrats losing the slamdunk 2004 election is what gives me faith in 2008. Its possible that McCain wins this year, but I doubt it. I think the Dem candidates are just too strong. More importantly, Obama is just too strong. Compare him to Kerry in '04, Gore on '00... he's just a far better candidate than either of them, and so were Clinton, Edwards and Richardson.

I rode RAGBRAI last year, which took a northern route and went through some of those towns that were in the damage path. I recall one town along the route (and I think near where this twister was), the name of which escapes me, that had been hit by a catastrophic tornado in the 70's, then again in the 90's, and again just a few years ago. As you come into town, it's sign prould proclaims itself the town that won't die. Its full of tree stumps and trees that look like they should be really big but are cut off at about 8 feet (or less). The town sign also apoligized to riders for not having any shade for them, as they had no trees left. Anyone know the name of the town?

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 26, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) I think they accomplished this feat last election. Yeah, putting Kerry out there and his awful campaign and candidacy was a perfect example of organizational idiocy. He was awful, and still only lost 51-49. If the Dems had any of the three of four leading candidates from THIS cycle running in '04, they probably would have won.

QUOTE (DumpJerry @ May 23, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) The individuals who caused that debacle last year were perma banned from WSI to a degree never seen before. We went to each of their computers and made sure all and any cookies were removed from them to prevent them from even lurking us. We then traded for some prospects that, by comparison, make the Carlos Quentin deal look risky. Bring. It.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 23, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) LINK That second to last one, about bottom-up development, will be very, very hard to accomplish. It would be perceived by many governments as an attempt to promote an uprising. I don't think that's really going to go anywhere.
