  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) Per DCW, Clinton's superdelegate lead now in single digits. Seven, to be specific (per CNN).
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 8, 2008 -> 04:54 PM) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8050703932.html Obama blames the Indiana loss on Rush Limbaugh. So much for the people who scoffed at Operation Chaos. Actually I doubt Limbaugh is causing anything here, but since he started this "Operation", a lot of stuff that has made Obama look bad has happened. Not sure it it'll be enough to help McCain beat him in November though. I think it did cause something - the question is, was it enough to make that 17,000 vote difference.
  3. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 8, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) He needs to go to AAA. I always remember how KW and Ozzie in yeasr past said that when a player was with the big club he was supposed to know how to play and be ready. The bigs they said was no place to learn. Ramirez is still learning and why he hasn't been sent down is beyond me. Once Richar is healthy, he'll probably be replacing one of Ramirez (to go to AAA), Ozuna (release/trade) or Uribe (release/trade).
  4. QUOTE (north side chi sox fan @ May 8, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) How was Ramirez at shortstop? I didn't get a chance to see the game. I was at the game. He didn't get many chances, so its hard to say, but he looked a little tenative. Crede grabbed at least one grounder in front of him. He looked terrible at the plate. Huge windmill swing, resulting in unintentional bunts.

    Bikes

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 8, 2008 -> 06:36 PM) I have both the good bikes stored in a friends' garage, from the winter. Until we move, they will probably stay there, unfortunately. I could provide a pic of the beater bike, which has almost no matching parts. Or stock pics of the other bikes.

  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 8, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) G. Bush I was actually a pretty good candidate...but I suppose he didn't campaign well, so maybe not a good candidate. He was a good president as far as I'm concerned (way better than Bush II) I would agree. I was speaking more of the pool as a whole, which is why I used the plural.
  8. Any "deal" that seats delegates at anything other than 50-50 from Michigan is a slap to the face of Democratic voters in the other 49 states. What a joke. Clinton was the only one on the f***ing ballot.
  9. I found this quote from that article very intriguing: Does that sound like anyone else we know? I mean, I'm pretty sure that describes BushCo and their choices in various cabinet posts to a tee.
  10. QUOTE (Texsox @ May 8, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) First off I'm not certain the candidates today are any better or worse then at any other point in our history. I think we now know more about them and their are much more efficient methods to build up and tear them down. But for the sake of discussion . . . How can we improve out choices for elected office? From the local level to the White House. What needs to happen to attract better candidates to puiblic service? Well first, I think the candidates we had in this election cycle (and still have) are higher quality then we've had since Reagan. Just my .02. But to me, the single biggest factor in candidates being lousy is money. The amount it takes to win a campaign, the promises that get made in return, etc. Anything having to do with that is a good place to focus. For example, if we'd enact truth-in-legislation act, or even a line item veto, to get the add-on crud off of bills, that would be good. In the same vein, you could use a city council-like system for "pork" projects - the local stuff that may be valid, but should not be tacked on to unrelated bills. Anything that can be done to expose the flow of money, and remove incentive for politicians to cater to it, is a good start.
  11. Alexei leading off? Well, I guess Ozzie thinks the lineup needs a jolt.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2008 -> 09:09 AM) I was long since in bed, but what the hell happened to Wasserman? Judging by the box score it looks like he got his ass kicked! Yes and no. He walked a guy on a long AB (incl a questionable call that would have been strike 3). There was an infield single, and a shank blooper between 2B and RF. That loaded the bases. He struck out Morneau. Up that point, he was fine, just the victim of bad luck. But then he actually gave up two real hits, scoring a couple runs, and was replaced by Masset. Masset then proceeded to allow those inherited runners to score. So, Wass gave up two solid hits, and was tagged for 5 runs.
  13. Despite the embarassment of yesterday's loss, the Sox can still win this series against the Twins, and have gained a game back on 1st place (and on .500). Let's get a damn win!
  14. Jeez, looks like I jinxed some guys by pointing out the solid pitching. Cassel, Rasner and F. Hernandez all got rocked last night.
  15. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 7, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) Why? Because you and Tex are getting blasted with examples that show the Sox players shouldn't be called out and you finally have gotten off your morality high horse? I will give you credit, you're not baiting or creating strawman argument like Tex, but that's nothing new for him. This thread had finally calmed down, until you had to start baiting other posters. Give it a rest.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 7, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) I don't get the Uribe must go camp, as we have no one else who can play 2nd base. Once Richar has re-habbed, he should get the job.
  17. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 7, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) 30 minute delayed start por qua?
  18. According to Gameday, lineup is the same as last night: OC, SS CQ, LF JT, DH PK, 1B JD, RF AJP, C NS, CF JC, 3B Ooooooribe, 2B
  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 6, 2008 -> 05:36 PM) You can? Because honestly, every time I see him at bat, it seems like a ground ball to the short-right fielder. I haven't watched every game, but the only thing I have seen this year from him that went to the left side was a check swing infield single. He may be trying to go opposite, but I have a hard time seeing it. Its only been lately, and certainly not every at bat. But the last few games, yeah, I've definitely seen it. He's had some line drives (some for hits) to left-center and left, which I had not recalled seeing from him before. Usually, he only goes left center and left if its a fly ball.
  20. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 7, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) Losing almost 20 lbs. in the off-season probably didn't hurt. I'm sure, but it probably helped more with his defense and baserunning. Those line drives he's hitting all over the field are the result of a change in hitting approach, I think.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2008 -> 04:06 PM) But AJ's been slumping as bad as anyone lately. Hitting .125 in his last 7 games. His average has dropped from .405 on April 15 and .325 on April 27 down to .282. He hit the ball very well last night, with line drives down both lines. And even at the end of that 7 game slump, he's still hitting 20 points higher than last year, slugging 40 points better, and taking more walks. He's definitely improved at the plate.
  22. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 7, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) I'm a little concerned about Jenks struggling to hit the mid '90s, but I'm not hitting the panic button yet. Especially with the off-speed stuff he's developed over the past couple of seasons. I feel pretty good about the 'pen overall this year. This has been Jenks' pattern since 2006. Cooper worked with him on some things, and his velocity dropped. He sacrificed a few clicks on the gun for better control and better breaking stuff (specifically, being able to use a uniform delivery for all pitches). So instead of throwing 98-99, he throws 94-96. He was around 94 last night. Mid-season, he'll be at 96.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 7, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) I luv Baines, but the hitting coach must be a teacher. I am not sure Harold says anything so how can he teach? Other than that little problem we are good to go Its been noted that Harold specifically worked with AJ in the offseason to balance his plate approach, and that has paid dividends - he's back to using all fields. I think that's a pretty good sign he can teach.
