  2. Well, I really don't think that refusing to negotiate with Boras is a truly horrible stance anyways. Recent history has shown that greatly overpaying top free agents usually hurts a team's chances of competing more than just signing a few mid-level free agents. A bunch of good players will win more games than a single star player. Boras doesn't make teams overpay. Teams stupidly agree to his terms. But Boras does screw up the free agent market for everyone else.
  3. Would you be this apologetic towards Boras and his clients if we had given bums like Bobby Seay and Bobby Hill the big signing bonuses they wanted? Boras overhypes all of his clients. It's not like every player he works for is a stud worth a ton of money, although Boras seems to think so. Boras was hardballing the Brewers over Dan Kolb, who had a garbage 2005 season with the Braves.
  4. Yep. But how did the Sox not know that Podsednik had a hernia? His whole game is speed. Crazy. All of those times he kept running himself into outs. Ouch. Oh well, at least we now know that he's much more likely to go 44 SB and 9 CS than 15 SB and 14 CS.
  5. (1) Crede has Boras as his agent because he obviously wants to get the most buck for his bang. (2) It isn't just KW that has a problem with Boras, it's also Reinsdorf.
  6. Contract extension likely for Hendry http://www.suntimes.com/output/cubs/cst-spt-cub11.html Three more seasons of Hendry and Dusty. Cubs fans must be overjoyed at the possibility.
  7. According to this article, the Giants' rotation is about set. The Astros could use another starter with Clemens' decision up in the air. This is why I doubt that they will trade Backe. So maybe they would trade for El Duque but... El Duque + Crawford Boxes = :puke
  8. The fact that he actually got bumped up to AAA after his 2005 season in AA makes me ill. It seems like the Sox are rushing him because of this very situation.
  9. Fields hit .252 with 55 walks and 142 strikeouts. Shouldn't he be repeating AA? I hope the Sox aren't rushing him just because of Crede/Boras.
  10. I think Mackowiak's 2-year deal with a 3rd year option was also telling. I think Crede will be traded after 2006 and Mackowiak will play 3B until Josh Fields is ready, if he ever is. The Sox just hate dealing with Boras.
  11. Heredia is just awful but I would take a flier on Embree. He still wants a guaranteed contract though...
  12. Padres agree to terms with Shawn Estes http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...xt=.jsp&c_id=sd
  13. It is surprising. Chuck Norris' skull is made of titanium.
  14. I think CantuSox is looking for the the white, silver, and black version of the cap that the players are wearing in these pictures... http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...ic=31950&st=315 My girlfriend bought me one at the Cell during the playoffs but I can't find it for sale anywhere on the web, only the white and black version you found.
  15. You liked Chandler and Dalembert last year while some people disliked Chandler and Dalembert last year. No one is right 100% of the time.

  17. Great stuff means nothing when you have Rick Ankiel-like control.
  18. Joe Borchard? Exactly. Ozuna makes Macias a pointless addition. Ozuna can play the same positions as Macias and he's a better hitter. He also has more speed. Like you said, we need to add a righty power threat off the bench more than a slappy-hitting scrub like Macias. He could compete with Borchard for the last outfield spot.
  19. Macias plays a bunch of positions but plays none of them well and he's an absolutely horrible hitter. I think he's a 26th guy at best -- a minor leaguer. We have no need for Macias with Mackowiak and Ozuna.
  20. You're right... http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/teamTransacti...ategoryId=71590 HE GONE!!!
  21. Couldn't Sanders just be a non-roster invitee to Spring Training?
  22. Sort of. Cotts was actually looking at the ground during his delivery instead of keeping his focus on his target. Cooper fixed it and Cotts went on to have a great season. Randolph was a first baseman in college. Maybe he was just never able to hone his control as a pitcher.
  23. Unless KW swings a trade for a lefty, one of the following guys is probably going to be in our bullpen... Chad Bentz Javier Lopez Arnie Munoz Stephen Randolph Paulino Reynoso David Sanders various other non-roster invitee lefties Unfortunately, you should probably get used to the idea. The Sox aren't just signing all of these guys for Charlotte.
