His 2005 AAA numbers were pretty awesome. I wouldn't mind something like the following lineup: Podsednik LF Pierre CF Frank / Thome DH Dye RF Adrian Gonzalez 1B Iguchi 2B Pierzynski C Crede 3B Uribe SS
-
The article mentioned that the Rangers and Marlins may need a third team to get involved to complete the trade so I thought up that trade scenario. It seems fairly reasonable to me and it makes a lot of sense according to our needs. We need a lefty 1B/DH power hitter and Ozzie wants more speed in the #2 hole. Adrian Gonzalez and Juan Pierre would provide both. Ozzie could then move Iguchi down to the sixth spot in the lineup where he could be more of a RBI producer.

You mean as an all-around player, right?
-
I like Rowand's defense and Pierre's offense. I'd rather have Pierre than Rowand as long as we have high OPS guys at first base and DH because I really like the idea of a 1-2 of Pods and Pierre. But I don't like that Pierre will be making quite a bit more money than Rowand will be next year.
-
I think Rowand is a better defender than Pierre too. But to say that Pierre is on the downside of his career and Rowand is on the upswing of his is downright ludicrous. Pierre is 15 days older than Rowand.

Aaron Rowand's birthdate: August 29, 1977 Juan Pierre's birthdate: August 14, 1977

I wonder if the Sox could be involved in this trade? http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...rlins_1120.html Marlins get Hank Blalock, Damaso Marte, Aaron Rowand, & a pitching prospect from the White Sox Rangers get Josh Beckett & Mike Lowell White Sox get Adrian Gonzalez & Juan Pierre

Ick, that would be brutal. Lowell has $18 million left on his contract and while Beckett is a good pitcher, he hasn't even sniffed 200+ innings in his entire career. No thanks.
-
They might. They want to improve their bullpen and dump payroll. That proposed trade would do both.
-
We do. Vizcaino is arbitration eligible.

Speaking of grounders to the infield, did you miss Rowand hitting all of those grounders to the shortstop this past season? What's the difference?
-
Rowand's slugging is better. Rowand: .283 .337 .451 Pierre: .305 .355 .375 Pierre's role as a #2 hitter with us wouldn't be trying to hit homeruns and striking out a lot like Rowand.

What? I want to keep Podsednik. I want to have a 1-2 of Podsednik and Pierre. And why is 2004 the exception to the rule for Podsednik but 2005 isn't for Pierre? Once again, Pierre had 4 good seasons and only 1 bad one. But Podsednik is more consistent because he had 2 good seasons and 1 bad one? That kind of logic doesn't make much sense. Apparently, the Sox want to move Iguchi down to a more RBI producing role. Ozzie also likes to run a lot. That's why this move would make some sense. Also, I never said I wanted to traded Rowand for Pierre. I think trading Marte for Pierre would make more sense because the Marlins have always had interest in him. Then I could see packaging Rowand with some prospects for a #3 lefty hitter.
-
Being a year and a half older is a difference, whether you think so or not. That's another 1.5 more years than Pierre that Podsednik will be past his prime. It's not a huge difference but it is a difference. Podsednik was a lot more terrible in 2004 than Pierre was this season. I guess by your logic, we should have never even traded for Podsednik. Take a look at their stats. Podsednik has had 2 good seasons and 1 bad one. Pierre has had 4 good seasons and 1 down year. Once again, take a look at Podsednik's 2004 stats. They were much worse than Pierre's 2005 numbers.
-
But you have to have serious questions about a guy who had a .905 OPS one season and a .736 OPS the next. Maybe pitchers figured Rowand out a bit. I noticed that almost every pitcher pounded him with sliders and offspeed stuff low and away this past season because he will swing and miss at it almost everytime. Maybe 2004 was just a career year for Rowand? Or even worse, maybe Rowand was on the juice? Whatever the case may be, you have to have some concerns about what happened to Rowand from 2004 to 2005. Pierre had a down season in 2005 but he has shown much more consistency offensively than Rowand in his previous seasons. I know I wouldn't mind having Pierre batting second but it would mean that we would also need some serious thumper OPS guys at first base and DH. A high OPS guy at first base and DH, combined with Dye, would be a good enough 3-4-5 of power hitters to make up for the light-hitting Podsednik and Pierre in the outfield.
-
This is the key, in my opinion. Pierre's ability to be a great #2 hitter for us (getting on base, stealing bases, moving Pods over), which would also allow us to bat Iguchi sixth in a RBI producing role, would be better than Iguchi batting second and Rowand batting sixth. Basically, I think Pierre's offensive abilities outweigh Rowand's better defense and would mean more to a team managed by Ozzie. Ozzie wants to run a lot so he may as well be supplied with the right players to do so. It's better than seeing a guy like Uribe trying to steal and getting thrown out by a mile, when we all know it's going to happen because he's not a good base stealer.
-
Maybe it's because Pierre has had more good seasons, has better career numbers, and is a year and a half younger than Podsednik? Podsednik's career line: .279 .345 .385 Pierre's career line: .305 .355 .375

This rumor of the Sox wanting Pierre is also in today's Miami Herald: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/13209959.htm

Just imagine how fun it would be watching a 1-2 of Pods and Pierre. THE KILLER P'S!!!
-
Pierre is one of the best bunters in the MLB and he barely strikes out. He is the exact opposite of Rowand.
-
I love the idea of a 1-2 of Pods and Pierre, especially if we have a lot of power at first base and DH with Dye batting fifth.
