I agree but saying that the Marlins would ask for McCarthy and only accept him in a trade for Delgado is all just conjecture.
-
Heh, let's not go that far. But yes, McCarthy's trade value must be huge right now after dominating at the end of the season.
-
Right now, I would think that McCarthy has more trade value than Petit. He has actually pitched in the majors and has been successful. He even looked dominant in a few starts against great offenses (Boston and Texas). That has to impress teams more than minor league stats.
-
Sorry, you didn't sound like you thought that this was a good trade for the Mets in this post:
-
Sizemore would produce more runs than Podsednik no matter where he is in our lineup so what does anything else really matter?
-
Except the Red Sox and Mets are trying to compete next season. The Marlins are dumping salary and hoping they can compete in 5 years. That's the big difference. Both the Red Sox and Mets think it's worth giving up prospects for proven talent so they can try to win a World Series next year.
-
Once again, I don't think you understand that prospects are unproven talent. Beckett, Lowell, and Delgado have all had good seasons in the majors. I agree that it would be hard for the White Sox to pay all of Delgado's contract but this is the Mets and Red Sox we're talking about. They have money up the wazoo. I doubt those two teams care about picking up Lowell's or Delgado's contracts. And how did you make me look dumb? I think everyone already got a good chuckle about how you would rather have Scott Podsednik than Grady Sizemore. That's just borderline insanity.
-
Jphat007 seems to think any trade not made by the White Sox is horrible. He said the same thing about the Red Sox trading for Beckett and Lowell. I don't think he realizes that prospects are really just unproven talent. They could be busts for all we know. Delgado is a sure thing. You are exactly right. "That's what they're for." Did you cry when the Sox traded Jeremy Reed and Miguel Olivo?
-
We currently have 6 starting pitchers and one of them is injury-prone. We don't have any other minor league starting pitcher that is ready like McCarthy is.
-
You should just hate players that are scrubs, like Timo Perez.
-
The funny thing is that Mueller barely played for the Cubs. He shattered his kneecap in an awful injury with them. The Cubs ended up trading him back to the Giants for a minor league nobody named Jeff Verplancke.
-
It's true though. There's no defending Levine. He only covers the Sox because he has to. You know that deep down he must hate it. Last season when the Cubs were all but mathematically eliminated from the Wild Card and the Sox were rolling along in first place, he would always try to get Dolgin to talk about the Cubs. Yes Bruce, let's talk about the fourth place team with no prayer over the team that is winning their division. Levine is a joke. :headshake

A big reason is that the Marlins want to improve their bullpen and dump salary at the same time. A trade of Marte and prospects for Pierre could do both. I think we'd have to give up a good prospect or two in the deal though.
-
It happened last week or so. Levine said that a trade of Pierre to the Cubs was almost complete. Two days later, he actually denied that he ever said the trade was close to happening.
-
No, I agree with you. I think Rowand is going in any trade the Sox make.
-
I can't imagine the Sox signing Mueller as a backup, and I can't imagine Mueller signing with a team to be a backup. He has a better bat than Crede and while his defense isn't as good as Crede's, he still has a decent glove.
-
Rowand is the only guy I think is truly involved. I think Levine is just speculating on Contreras or McCarthy being involved because he still thinks Thome has a ton of trade value. I doubt Thome has enough trade value to get a good starting center fielder and a good starting pitcher considering he's coming off an injury and still has a huge chunk of change left on his contract. And the Sox would still pick up 2/3 of Thome's deal? Whatever. :rolly

Maybe Bruce managed to snag a Xbox 360 last night and thought up this Xbox trade while playing MVP Baseball.
-
I'm waiting for the much needed Bruce Levine / carpet-bombing reference.
-
Bruce Levine seems to think the trade would be Rowand and Contreras or McCarthy for Thome with the Sox picking up 2/3 of the remaining 3 years, $43.5 million on Thome's contract. Levine said that if this goes down, the Sox will still have enough money left over to re-sign Konerko. If Kenny makes this trade, he's nuts. The Phillies can have Rowand, Marte, El Duque, and prospects but no way do you give up Contreras or McCarthy and still pick up 2/3 of Thome's contract. :puke

Haha, good point. Give me Mueller's .295 AVG, .369 OBP, 10 HR, and 62 RBI over Crede's .252 AVG, .303 OBP, 22 HR, and 62 RBI any day of the week. Of course, I wouldn't want to lose Crede's glove at third base but I would take Mueller's bat all day long. Mueller would be a good #2 hitter for us if you look past the whole speed thing. But with Ozzie, I don't see him batting second.
-
Lowell puts up pretty good offensive numbers and plays good defense. I would praise Allah if Crede could put up an .806 OPS. He also won't be costing the Red Sox $7.5 million a year: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2232211

Regardless, he's instantly the best starting pitcher in the Red Sox rotation now. Oh boy, Lowell sucks now because he had one bad season. He must have caught Juan Pierre's disease. That must mean Konerko sucks because he was horrible in 2003. :rolly
