New Tejada News: O's reportedly make a proposal...
SoxFan1 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 07:01 PM) I mean, if we would add Tejada, does anyone see us being in nearly as many one run games??? If the pitching falters, then you never know. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) It was never officialy stated that the other clinching games were to be in this. It was never offficial but it was widely semi-known. Here's the thread. Ya, I know, nothign official, but we all pretty much knew 7 discs wouldnt hold 12 games. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=44533

QUOTE(HeGone! @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) There was 2 kids playing baseball at the park when a mean, savage dog that was foaming at the mouth attacked them. The dog jumped on one of the kids and the other kid, trying to save his friend started beating the dog over the head with a baseball bat. Soon the dog was slumped over dead on the baseball diamond. Did I miss something here?

I know it might be a little early for this.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) I messed up my post, it meant to be who cares b/c if we win that is all that matters. I am a bad typer today. You sit on a throne of lies! -
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:04 PM) LMFAO! I know - you haven't been out much... and that's cool... but dude, someone's got to get you out to a real steak joint. Does Outback Steakhouse count? I was suppose to go to Fogo de Chau once but had to cancel. I normally don't go out for food much anyway.

I'll take plain old Applebee's Sirloin steak any day of the week, month, year, centure, millenium...

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Outfield depth in the future is a concern as Dye and PODS contracts are up about the time we are looking for minor league help IMO. True, but in the more immediate future, we still have Owens and Nanita. -

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) Lets look at the Pros and cons to this deal. Pros: 1. Contreras is in the last year of his deal so he would likely leave after the 2006 season anyways. 2. Tejada is one of the best players in baseball. He hits for average and power every single year. His defense is above average. 3. Would solify our starting lineup for years to come. Cons: 1. You lose the insurance of that 6th starter in case of injury. 2. You lose arguably the best defensive SS in the game, not to mention he is very cheap. 3.You lose even more outfield depth in Sweeney. This deal scares me too much! Your cons can be argued against IMO. I don't know about Uribe being the best defensive SS...that has some homer-juice to it, but you did say arguably so it doesn't matter. Sweeney wasn't OF ready for 2006 anyway. And another Pro is that it doesnt raise salary much at all, if any, for 2006. -

QUOTE(Adam G @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) Yeah, ERA is a good one. How different is Contreras' 2.96 in the second half from Prior's 2.43 in 2003? What's the average run differential between the AL and NL? I believe if Prior's #'s were translated to AL, his ERA would be about .96 runs higher so he would be in the 3.39 range. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) Seriously, you need to learn to read, before you jumped in this argument with no knowledge, it was brought up by someone other than me that Count was better this year than prior in 2003. That was the comparison, not the players now, but these two years in comparison. I'm pretty sure he can read Rock. Just let it go...for the sake of the thread. -

Does it really matter? Count helped the Sox win the World Series. Prior helped the Cubs miss it in 2003. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 04:00 PM) wow, are you serious? Prior in 2003 was 18-6 with a 2.43 ERA and 245 k's 50 bb's this was the counts best year and he was 15-7 3.61 154 k's 75 bb's post all star he had a 2.96 ERA. Not even as good as Priors whole season. Seriously, you need to research your claims before you type them. I think he is saying that if Count had the same 1st half as 2nd half/playoffs. Calm down there killer. -
How do you get 4 Cubs fans to sit on 1 stool? Flip the stool over. ZING!

Good job by KW wrapping Mack up for a couple years. 3rd year option is a really good perk to the deal. Crede....you're up next.

So what should we do?

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 06:30 PM) I'm surprised Juggs hasn't done it yet. ^^^ Except there would be about 50x as many numbers.

Mrs. Thomas was teaching her 1st grade class one day and she started asking her students about their fathers' occupations. She was overwhelmed with the typical firefighter and car salesman answers and then she got to Tommy. Tommy said he didn't want to reply but she forced him to. Tommy said "Well, my father is a male stripper at a gay club. Sometimes, people give him extra money to take him out in the alley and have anal sex with him." Shocked at the reply, Mrs. Thomas asked to talk to Tommy after class. At the end of the school day, Tommy came to her desk and she asked "Tommy, was that all true? You know, what you said about your parents?" Tommy said "No, I was just too emberassed to admit that he plays for the Cubs."

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 05:16 PM) An oldie, but goodie: Five Chicago sports fans were climbing a mountain one day. Each was a fan of a different Chicago team and each proclaimed to be the most loyal of all fans to their team. As they climbed higher, they argued as to which one of them was the most loyal of all. They continued to argue all the way up the mountain, and finally as they reached the top, the Blackhawk fan hurled himself off the mountain, shouting, "This is for the Hawks!!!" as he fell to his doom. Not wanting to be outdone, the Bulls fan threw himself off the mountain, proclaiming, "This is for the greatest team of the 90's!!!" Seeing this, the Bears fan walked over and shouted, "This is for DA COACH!!!", and leapt to his death. The two remaining fans just looked at each other in stunned silence. After a minute, the Sox Fan shouted, "This is for everyone on the South Side!!!" and pushed the Cub fan off of the mountain. That is my personal favorite.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) I was taking a look at the 2006 schedule to see how it compared to the 2005 schedule. I remember the 15 game stretch in August where the Sox only played the Twins, Sawks, and Yanks, and was curious to see if there was another one of those stretches in 2006. Here is what I came up with month by month: April: * Play 12 games vs winning teams and 12 vs losing teams (I counted TOR as a winning team) * Don't play back to back winning teams until LAA and CLE (Apr28-May2) May: * Play 18 games vs winning teams and 11 vs losing teams * Only 2 days off * Have 2 tough stretches - 7 games vs LAA and MIN 9 game vs OAK, TOR, and CLE June: * Fairly easy month * Play 10 games vs winning teams and 16 vs losing teams * 12 Interleague games (STL and HOU back-to-back @ home) * Only 1 game vs a winning team away from home July: * Easiest month * Play 9 games vs winning teams and 16 vs losing teams * Do not play consecutive winning teams this month August: * Play 12 games vs winning teams and 16 vs losing teams * Play 20 straight games September/October: * The hardest month on paper * Play 19 games vs winning teams and 10 vs losing teams * 16 straight games * Sep 5th - 17th - 13 game stretch (3 @ BOS, 4 vs CLE, 3 @ LAA, 3 @ OAK) 2006 Season - * 12 Road Trips * Longest Road Trip - 9 games So it looks like May and September are the only difficult months, and it looks like the Sox have a good chance to put up a lot of wins from June-August. It seems like the one 13 game stretch in September is the only huge challenge. Overall, not that bad of a schedule. Don't you have anything else to do besides analyze every aspect of the White Sox organization??? But you get major props!
