  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) correct? And so those short, straight glasses, I believe I've been served IPA/APAs most commonly. I wonder what the advantages are to those. Those are classic standing pint glasses, and they are the go to glass for most "standard" beers. Like Kid says, most beers work well in anything, and there are a few styles that need specific glassware. Thistle glasses for Scotch ales and Belgian Scotch ales are another specialty glass that is also useful for critical beer tasting because it does a great job capturing the nose of the beer.
  2. Some of them can be a bit busy, that's true. I love me some Anchor Christmas ale with all the spices in it, but a 6-pack suffices for the season. In contrast, I'll get a case of Celebration at Christmas and will go through most of it in a few months and have to hide a few bottles so I don't drink them all.
  3. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) Haha, craziest random hook ups would be a good topic. We have had that discussion. QUOTE (SnB @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) wishing that candy canes were a year-round treat.
  4. QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) That might also be because Fezz is that type of beer. Somedays it is good, others it is complete crap. Some brews are like that. Somedays Newcastle is one of the greatest beer made, others it is one of the worst. And in both cases, as you well know, that has something to do with the inherent stability of a given beer, but much more to do with who has manhandled the beer along the way, how warm it has gotten, whether it's out of date etc. It's really frustrating to run into a bad bottle of a beer you know is very good when fresh and handled well. I've had that issue with both Fezziwig and Newcastle, and Harpoon IPA and Sam Smith Winter Welcome are two others that if gotten bad bottles of on more than one occasion. More breweries going to oxygen barrier caps helps. And the trend toward hoppier and higher alcohol in a lot of the American craft market, I suspect, is partly a strategy to improve stability issues.

  6. eh, I thought there was a better elfin way to do it that I hadn't come across. j/k. Thanks.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) I wouldn't mind a run down of what glasses to drink what beers in. You drink out of your glass and I'll drink out of mine. Seriously, that is a good discussion topic.
  8. Hey, how are people doing SoxTalk site searches for old posts with the search funstion turned off??

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) Im worried about this one. The re-shot a ton of the footage, the look of the Wolfman was completely redone. Hoping for the best for Larry Talbot in this version. I'm glad Universal decided not to let the Jack Nicholson "Wolf" from a few years ago stand as the franchise reboot and are actually going back to the original story. Honestly though, I didn't think wolf was a bad film.
  10. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) Aha! Another faster than Jim post by Tex better look again

  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) Xanax might help you feel better. ZERO is what you get
  13. Tomorrow is the one Day I would trade for a Monday, with freezing rains melting and no trains running. Very tired of chiming in late
  14. Oh, yeah. . . here's a bit of trivia. Joe Besser went on to do the voice for Babu, Genie's sidekick in the badly produced Hannah-Barbara animated version of I Dream of Genie.
  15. Gleason is the resident Stooge expert I think - or was it someone else here who used to watch them with his grandfather?? I'm fair to middling in Stoodeology. Least favorite is a two-way between Joe Besser and and Joe DeRita — although DeRita probably gets the overall crappy Stooge nod. As for favorite, I'm one of those odd ones who think Shemp did an outstanding job filling Jerry's shoes and is vastly undarappreciated, so I'll go Shemp.
  16. QUOTE (Kid Gleason @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 08:12 AM) Three Sheets is a million times better than Thirsty Traveler, mainly due to Zane Lamprey being friggin' hysterical and the guy on Thirsty Traveler being kind of a snob. Dang near identical shows, but one is a conniseur while the other is a stand-up comedian who likes to party. I saw part of the Three Sheets episode — no, actually a video interview about the show — where he was learning how to use a sabre to open a bottle of Champagne like the Napoleonic army used to do. Yeah, I like that he gets into all aspects of the drinks in question, including the drunkenness part of it. Professional drinker — man what a gig.
  17. Parents with two kids in college at once are screwed these days, and I'll be there in a few years.
  18. I fear for the human race. There is no stopping the monster Tex has wrought upon us all.
  19. QUOTE (hogan873 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 07:28 AM) I have to agree that fall is probably the best season for beer. I love the Octoberfests and darker beers. Sam Adams already has a Harvest Mix out with Octoberfest, Brown Ale, Cherry Wheat, and Dunkelweizen. Sam's Oktober and Winter lagers are always solid. Sad to see they are still trotting out the putrid cherry wheat though. Has it improved any? Out of all the special releases and seasonals they do/did, that one and their cranberry lambic were the most unpalatable I think. Also regarding Sam, are there any fans of the Old Fezziwig Christmas ale? It's been years since I've had it since they only seem to include it in the holiday 12-packs and it usually includes cr@p like the cranberry lambic. I used to be able to find an occasional bomber, but haven't in a long time. I have a feeling it would be good not great if I had it now, now that there are so many excellent winter beers available.
  20. 'course, I think he meant to type "Game that is weak" but got it wrong.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 11:48 PM) She was no virgin, unless she was a nun. The woman was 60, easy. I think the virgin thing is optional these days, but historically when the drink was made for religious ceremonies virgins often provided the spittle.
