QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 12:26 AM) Nolan's gotta be one of the best living directors, should be good stuff. Inception looks promising and I've enjoyed nearly everything of his I've seen (Prestige was disappointing, and Batman Begins was entertaining but not great) but "one of the best living directors" is a bit of a stretch imo.

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) Yeah, we could see three in the water. We didn't know about the other injuries. Not 5 minutes after we saw them, a wave came and we could only see 2. Turned out that young girl died. I don't know how 2 made it out. The waves were 10-15 feet high and the water was around 60 degrees. Reading the story and learning about the poor girl was brutal, and knowing you were on-hand to experience that makes it even more heart-wrenching. Interesting to hear your first-hand account that there was very little warning as to the potential danger from the storm waves. It was certainly my assumption — and not necessarily due to media portrayal — that a fair degree of peril would have been obvious to anyone on the shoreline.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) It will definitely have a cult following. I've only seen it once, and I didn't even make it all the way through because I thought it sucked that much. I've heard from a few people that it gets better each time, so I may have to go back and give it another shot. It's definitely got some hardcore fans. I agree with those who say it gets better with repeated viewings.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) Watched Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou last night. I know it was widely panned but I thought it was entertaining. Future cult classic — at least among aquatic scientists.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 01:11 AM) Yes, I am excited to see it, but it doesn't come around here until Sept. 18. I have to wait until Oct 2, but I'm just glad it's coming within 50 mile of me.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 04:10 AM) "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "Octopus' Garden" were both good songs. Yep, though the first was written by John and Paul and only sung by him. Ditto for Yellow Submarine and Good Night. He gets writing and vocal credits for Don't Pass Me By. He also sang lead vocals on the old Luther Dixon and Wes Farrell song Boys. Ringo was great, even as an undistinguished drummer, and the band wouldn't have been the same without him.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 11:11 PM) I did not know it was Ringo who yelled that - thought it was Lennon. Nope, those two fades at the end of the song truncate 20 or so minutes of outro jamming where Ringo was just beating the hell out of his drums and his hands.

What is your job?
QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) Where do you teach? Past and current courses include marine ecology, benthic (bottom-associated) ecology, estuarine natural history, aquaculture, and various zooplankton-, invertebrate- and fish-themed sections of marine biodivversity courses, along with a few high school labs and lectures here and there for a county partnership project on campus.
