  1. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 12:49 AM) Just wondering, Tex, is that you next to Bush? Holy Cr@p, Tex is Ted Haggard!?!
  2. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 12:46 AM) Talent is trailing. Whoops, updated on me. He's back in the lead. And now MSNBC has McCaskill back on top by 17K+ votes. Bedtime for me and we'll see how it looks in teh morning.
  3. Holy cr@p, now CNN is saying that the 1% projected advantage to Webb over Allen may be a mistake, and that the VA Secretary of State's numbers are the inverse of that. This race may dictate who controls the Senate and it's going to come down to a couple-thousand votes and which of the ballot counters had dyslexia in reporting the totals.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 12:07 AM) How can I check out if their accreditation is legit? NEASC would be the regional accreditation agencies for MA. You should be able to look up Hempshire. . . , er, I mean Hampshire College on that page and see if they are regionally accredited. The general rule of thumb is to defer to the regional agencies and to not be content just with a national accreditation.
  5. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 12:04 AM) It comes all down to Virginia and Missouri, I believe. I saw MSNBC back off the earlier projection for Cardin in MD. That's bull$hit, right?
  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) Webb with the lead. No focking way!??? Wow, that would be HUGE! Hearing Tweety on MSNBC still suggesting Macaca could be a future presidential hopeful was nauseating. Also good news.
  7. Great run at it, SS. I'm proud of you taking the initiative and throwing in. It was good to live vicariously through you during the race.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Can we try and guess what your favorite film is? Is it THX or American Grafitti? I love me some Grafitti. And I'm one of the handful of folks who's seen THX (not a favorite). SW: A New Hope rocked my 10 year old world back in 1977. Lucas has let me down with unsettling consistency for the last 20 years, but damn that first Star Wars was IT for me.
  9. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) You know, after I voted, I was standing there waiting to get my receipt and...nothing. So, where does my vote go? What happens if something goes wrong? Is there a backup? I hope they figure this voting thing out, cuz we've only done it in this country for 230 years!!! Receipt? What is this "receipt" of which you speak? I fed my left-leaning scantron sheet into the reader and that was that. No receipt, just the ever-popular "I Voted" sticker and a scowm from the front office folks at work when I came in late. Happily, an uneventful and rather pleasant pollinng station experience for me though.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 12:51 PM) Not sure how reliable it is, but apparently Lucas killed IJ4 http://www.moviehole.net/news/20061107_luc...na_jones_4.html Sounds like Lucas. Why is the guy who made my favorite movie of all time such a horse's arse? That said, I don't know about a geriatric Indy either.
  11. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) I think that political solicitations are exempt from that list. Here's an update on that, at least as far as the NH case: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/11/06/...D8L7NC080.shtml I expect this will vary by state though.
  12. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 01:16 PM) Waaay to expensive, IMO. Do they hold their value? Actually, they do – much better than the Tyco 'HO' gague which was what I could afford as a kid. They're bettter quality than the HO stuff, but not the quality (or the price) of the bigger G-Scale German stuff. That's the indoor/outdoor "garden train" scale like the set up in EPCOT at Germany.
  13. In Nebraska the robocallers are actually using Dem candidate Kleeb's voice. His campaign has nothing to do with the annoying calls, but they are the ones getting the voter backlash.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) You should invest in a Lionel train that could be handed down for generations. I was a Tyco devotee myself growing up. The 'O-gague' stuff was just too damn expensive.
  15. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) Who I did NOT vote for. Pretty funny website (okay, maybe scary is a better word). "RENT! Is. Too. Damn. High!" Pretty catchy tune.
  16. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) Look into the one at Target. You can get it and the table set for less than the Thomas version and it's just as nice. Plus it is the same size as the Thomas one and you can buy the Thomas pieces later. The Kid is exactly right. If you can get away with generic, you'll save a bundle. We were able to do that with the train table and track and tunnels and such, and then we forked over some $$ for a couple of the Thomas engines and cars so that the kids thought it was a real Thomas set. Brio makes the Thomas wooden stuff, so size-wise it's all compatible. The Brio track is usually the smooth track and not the "clak-trak," but it all fits together fine. And SS, yoou could have really saved a bundle if you posted this a week ago. We literally just this weekend sold all of our kids' old train stuff to friends for a song and a six-pack.
  17. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 10:47 AM) St. Olaf is great for Psych. I have 3 other friends in advanced Psych graduate programs. But I'm sure that other school is nice too. . . I can see it now. Tex Jr., the proud graduate of Hampshire Commune . . . er, College, saying "Dad remember whan I told you I cared deeply about majoring in Psych? Well. . . Psyche!!! And thanks for the four-year party!"
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) Did you read the whole thing? Almost all of the same issues you brought up, showed up in that same article. That's not true. The key issue with the robocalls is that the callers don't say they are conducting an independent survey. They falsely claim they are calling on behalf of a candidate and then they make a point of being a jerk, and then to call back over and over to try to pizz the call receivver off so much as to not vote for the candidate they are pretending to represent.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 08:06 AM) Today's Quote You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out he hates all the same people you do. -Anne Lamott Simple, brilliant, and so true.
  20. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) I think that political solicitations are exempt from that list. Yep, you are correct on that. An NPR story this morning confirmed it. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) BTW, Bush probably owes his Presidency to a Push Poll that wiped out McCain. I lay the blame squarely at the imaginary feet of his imaginary illigitimate black daughter.
  21. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 7, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) can you give the chapter for that? That's an amazing quote, but not surprising, because lewis is da man. That he was, that he was.
  22. If he plans on smoking a lot of dope but still wants to get a degree somewhere along the way, then that is the place for him. No, seriously, if he plans on smoking a lot of dope but still wants to get a degree somewhere along the way, then that is the place for him. Take a test - or don't - if you want. Help design your own curriculum. Don't expect an actuual letter grade, instead the teachers will write a course performance review. Get done in 4 years. . . 5 years, whatever. I'm intrigued as well. Let me know how it turns out.
  23. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 6, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) i don't see how this is a legit news story. some preacher is a hypocrite, wow. stop the presses. the guy isn't an elected official or running for anything, it's really a stretch on the MSM to try to make this into a political scandal. You're right, it's a conservative Evangelical church scandal. But since the Evangelical and fundamendalist dominionist churches have become so alligned with one side of the political spectrum, a large-scale scandal is going to have political ramifications. A guy who is in on weekly conference calls to the White House and who is clearly in a position to turn out the vote of millions from the Christian conservative base obviously is capable of affecting facets of the political climate regionally as well as nationally. Likewise, a scandal that paints him as being something very different than what he portrays and what he preaches has the potential to create political ripples. That said, I don't think it really will have much effect as far as turnouts and outcomes tomorrow.
  24. Those both seem pretty mild and – for better or worse – the base pandering that is pretty much expected of them. To tell the truth, I think Bush's quip about finding the children and then taxing them is pretty damn funny. er. . . I mean
