  1. What's wrong with Hangar's conspiracy theory? I tend to agree with him. I think what he says is a lot more interesting than what the great majority of soxtalk posters post QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) Dick, all we can do as Sox fans until the climate changes is fill USCF, watch the games to lift the ratings, buy the gear (more World Series gear, hopefully ) and patronize sponsors of White Sox baseball. The tide IS turning, albeit slowly. The White Sox's attention to families and children is now and will continue to gain new fans and young fans. As the Cub demographic grows older and the new Sox fans become the ones with expendable income, you'll see the shift exposed more in the media. Harping on about it ad infinitum does very little, IMO. Also, I have no problem seeing 2 positive Sox stories and 5 negative Cub stories. That's another "statistic" Hangar ignores - how many of the Cub articles would actually sway a fan to root for the Cubs? If I read yet another Kerry Wood DL story and another story detailing the mysterious litany of Mark Prior ailments, I am NOT thinking, "OOOOOH, I GOTTA go see Carlos Marmol pitch on Monday!!!!" As long as JR and KW stay the course, I see good things in the Sox's future, and the media will not be able to ignore it.
  2. The Mets are a good team, better than Anaheim IMO. I don't think they are much worse than the Yankees. By the way, we have problems with our bullpen too. We're just lucky that we can hit this year. Don't underestimate the NL. QUOTE(Brian @ May 2, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) Not at all. I'm with you. Look at the NL West, its garbage. If the Mets are the best in the East, that is sad. Cardinals are the best in the NL and they have problems with their bullpen and some starters. I'd say White Sox, Clevelan, Anahiem, Oakland, NY, and Boston are the best 6 in the MLB.
  3. I have no loss of respect for Frank. He's pissed he was let go. I don't see how that should affect any Sox fans whatsoever. You guys are reading too much into things. In addition, it seems as though KW messes with a lot of people. By the way, we'll see if we repeat or not. Just because someone says we aren't gonig too, doesn't mean much to me.
  4. This is nice that we do get what we get. I just wonder if anyone can talk to Brooks Boyer and ask if there's a possibility of making it a 12 game set. Here's my reasoning: Game 1 against Boston is a very important game because it set the tone and who's to say we'd have won game 2 if Tony G didn't mess up? That series, although it looks like the Sox just wiped the floor, could have been dramatically different without Tony G. If nothing else, I just want the footage of Frank tossing the first pitch and the crowd reaction, if they have it. Likewise, Game 2 vs the Halos is absolutely amazing. Without that win, would we have spanked them in 3 and 4? QUOTE(J-MAN @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) Actually their price is $41.97 including shipping!!!!!
  5. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Japan has had exactly 3 players that I can think of that did/could have made a major impact in the MLB: Ichiro, Matsui, and Sadaharu Oh. Outside of that they aren't that impressive. All you have to do is look at the stats for all of the washed up scrubs or MLB journeyman that go over there and dominate. I can't remember who, but some MLB reject broke/would have broken their homerun record if they would have pitched to him. I think you are being generous by saying Matsui did have a major impact, but then again I'm assuming that you are saying it in a postive fashion. He certainly had a major impact for the Yanks against the Halos this year.
  6. I guess Tejada is willing to stay with the Os after talking to Melvin Mora and "clearing the air." Supposedly he wanted to clear the air and needed an opportunity, even though he had opportunities but never returned phone calls. All the more reason why I'm happy we didn't trade for this punk. Either way, I have been thinking about this and am now convinced that Tejada would be bad. I agree with Bob Dylan and the guy who analyzed our squad saying we have mediocre production at 3B, C, CF, and LF. I actually have to agree with 2nd half C, 2nd half LF, whole season of CF, and 1st half 3B, but Dye was sucking too, so was Konerko for two mos., and what happened to Iguchi in the 2nd half? Funks are a part of baseball life and we did well with them. We don't need Tejada to compensate for the funks when we got Thome, probably an upgrade at DH from Everett. I predict that Tejada's #s will be better than Uribe's but will not be worth the cost. It might have been worth the cost if we didn't have Thome, but we have him. Although with Thome I'm assuming that KW didn't get us used goods.
  7. That's a good point at least with Raffy. I don't know if Sosa was all that bad of a clubhouse guy, because I don't know when he and Tejada got into a riff. One thing I'm sure we can agree on though is that now Tejada is hurting the team with his crap too. I for one am against any acquisition of Tejada. I have a feeling that the long-term gains of Uribe plus one more year of a solid SP outwiegh that of Tejada. This is why: Tejada has become a crybaby after signing a long-term contract and has fall-outs with Sosa and Palmiero (probably understandable, but nevertheless) making me question his sensibility, plus he is a major reason why the O's weren't good in the 2nd half. I think we've only begun to see Uribe's potential. He's 26, Tejada is 29. I got a feeling that the Sox were Uribe's cure. He's became better has the year progressed and he became good when it mattered. As of Steroid talk? I think it's too premature to think anything. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) As s***ty as he was doing he was still out there trying to get his teammates asses in gear. Raffy and Sosa killed that team with all their bulls***.
  8. I don't know if I agree with that assessment on Contreras with him not reaching full potential before. Contreras has a history in Cuba and I give that creedence. Although I agree with you saying that it's a lot to expect both to be as good as they were and to carry it until 2008. QUOTE(Molto @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) While both Garland and Contreras are talented and can both easily repeat what they did in 2005, I would hope the Sox avoid signing Contreras for the money he's asking. Prior to 2005, neither of these guys ever reached their full potential. Now perhaps they finally have figured themselves out and will be good to go for a few years, but for a team to give three year deals for nearly $10 mil a year each to two guys who are coming off their breakout season ... that just isn't logical. Putting faith in one of them to never revert back to their old selves is one thing, but thinking both of them are going to repeat '05 and do it through '08 is iffy.
  9. A second team in Chicago is such a waste. I hate the NFL and their corporate compromise to play the Super Bowl in warm weathered places. I understand the logic and truly feel the NFL is very business savvy but this is why I can't stand the league. I wish that Championships were played in places like Green Bay, the Meadowlands, Heinz Field, but it seems like it would be just not enough of a money draw. So instead, we get boring super bowls like Pats vs Carolina and the most exciting thing is a "wardrobe malfunction" Man, I couldn't stand the Bucs vs Raiders---3 music shows? That Super Bowl took I think 4 hours to finish, plus it was painful to watch since the Bucs just killed the Raiders. Not that I'm a Raiders fan or anything. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) HOLY CRAP! Some guy just called the Score in regards to the stadium idea and said that apperently Schaumburg is under the table looking to maybe get an NFL team. Maybe in a stadium near the convention center. Bernstein said he hasn't heard that, but WOW! What an interesting idea.
  10. His second fracture was probably related to his first fracture because it wasn't fully healed. That one required surgery. If his second fracture doesn't require surgery, his foot may heal in time for ST. Bone injuries are much better than ligament/tendon injuries, simply because scar tissue goes into elastic tissue. Bone replaces bone in bone injuries and bone breaks actually cause the bone to be stronger than before. He may not have a spectacular year early on, but I have a feeling that when he's back, he will be great. Just like he was for the short period of time this year. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) If no one signs Frank, I'm sure the Sox would give him a minor leaguer offer and see if he gets healthy. I just don't see the big man ever doing that. I just don't see why people just expect him to be heatlhy. I did see some positive news in an article today (about him playing golf) but I've heard a lot of bad things about the long term prognosis of his injury and how likely his chances of ever being the same are. I don't think its a gimme that he'll ever play the game and be healthy, in fact I think its far-fetched to feel that way. I do hope he can get healthy and get on a roll. Frank is an awesome player and is the greatest player to ever play for the Sox.
  11. That's awesome for the big man! Congrats!
