I brought this up the other day - do we really trust anything the Chinese government reports?

Yeah, especially because their coverup led to this clusterfuck in the first place.

If they thing this thing is going to blow over in 6 months they're high. It's not happening for years. They'll create a vaccine, the virus will mutate and then we're back to square one. Until this thing mutates enough times for there to be a vaccine for multiple strains, this isn't going away.

The first symptom of this thing is a quick spike in temperature. Not likely you have it with a chief complaint being the sore throat.

Is it? The first thing I felt was hocking lougies.

I feel fine otherwise. Have a bit of a frog in my throat, but that's common for me with my seasonal allergies. (so are the lougies)

Again, only concerned because of contact with rando people. Wouldn't be concerned at all if it wasn't for the lougies. I've heard that those can be as symptom of a URI.

    Second Edit:

Decided against even calling the GP. Looked up the symptoms, I'm fine for now. Just my GAD talking.

    sorry for freaking anyone out.

If it makes you feel any better, I convinced myself I had a fever and was up all night sweating when my company told me to get ready to work from home.

    anxiety does weird things.

Yeah, and I already know I have GAD so I'm probably overreacting. If it wasn't for my job and as many places as I've been over the last 2 weeks, I wouldn't be concerned.

Like I said, I have a bad nail biting habit. I don't want to harm my parents. It's not about me.

BTW, does me talking about shutting it down this weekend sound crazy now?

Edit: just drank a bunch of water and my sore throat and headache are starting to go away. Sometimes I forget to drink enough fluids so it might just be dehydration.

I'll still call my GP in the morning just to be safe.

    Fuck.

Within the last couple hrs I developed a bit of a sore throat.

I'm calling my GP in the morning, asking whether or not I should go to my podiatrist appt tomorrow.

I feel fine otherwise, but still going to ask my GP whether or not I should go.

I know that I've come into contact with a shit ton of people over the last week because of my job. I stopped doing it as of Monday, but I think my own underreaction may have bit me in the ass. Wish me luck.

I'll keep everyone posted about what my GP says tomorrow.

Big thing is that over the last 2 weeks I have no idea how many or who I've come in contact with as a gig food delivery driver. Decided to stop working Friday because business took a crap, still went around places even today because I have seasonal allergies and everything would go away after being inside for a couple hrs. It's been warm enough to activate those things for me. Didn't get concerned until I got a sore throat tonight during the game.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I live with my parents who are both over 60 and I don't want anything to happen to them.

  6. Fuck.

He will be. He will be on the fast track to replace Rodon, Lopez or Gio. That is why I loved the Gio contract. It gives him a real window to try and hit. I have him more as a really solid #2 over an ace though. His stuff is legit.

I love Dunning, but he doesn’t really have an ace like ceiling.  To me, his best case scenario is a really good #3 starter.  That being said, if healthy I expect him to be a rotation mainstay for years to come, hopefully as our #4 starter behind Giolito, Kopech, & Cease.  I truly believe he will beat out Lopez, Rodon, Lambert, & Stiever for the last spot in the rotation next year.  The kid just has that “it” factor.

On 3/7/2020 at 11:09 AM, smellysox said:

I agree with you. Dunning has great pitching IQ. He's a competitor. And maybe most importantly an easy repeatable delivery. Speaking of him being a competitor, look up the video of him yelling at the umps for calling the tarp out with the rain coming.  He was at Florida. Love it!

He is better than Lambert, Lopez, Rodon. I  expect him to be #5 next season and then 4 the following year with Dallas the 5. I'm still not sure what the plan is for Rodon. I feel he will be moved next offseason. I just don't see how he's going to be happy here if he's not starting.

Just my opinion, but Dunning is likely a #3-4 starter with a ceiling of being right handed Quintana(with the Sox)

I honestly hope we move Rodon to the bullpen.  I’m not sure it will make him any healthier, but I think he can be dominant as a pure fastball/slider guy coming out in short stretches.

To go completely off subject here, but if you make Rodon a reliever and add one elite arm to serve as your closer you could see a bullpen like this next year:

    • CL: Kirby Yates
    • SU: Aaron Bummer*
    • SU: Reynaldo Lopez
    • SU: Carlos Rodon*
    • MR: Zack Burdi
    • MR: Codi Heuer
    • MR: Fry*/Cordero/Hamilton/Johnson
    • LR: Gonzalez*/Lambert/Flores*

Holy fuck would that pen be nasty.

Idk if Rodon would do it, but I could see him in the Andrew Miller/Josh Hader role and being absolutely filthy.

We received the email at around 4:30 yesterday stating that someone had it and if we wanted to work from home the rest of the week, we can as long as we meet our deadlines and get work done. At around 9pm, we received an email stating the office is closed until next Monday, taking the option away from us. But they also threw in a sentence stating it might extend into next week.

I'm curious to see as well. I'll keep you and others posted.

We'll see. Places like Seattle and New York seem to already be starting the climb.

Yeah, because it already is bad there.

Every other large city in the country should be looking  at what's going on in Seattle and NYC and doing whatever they're doing immediately. But no, that's an overreaction and panic.

Props to Mike deWine( Governor of Ohio)  for banning large crowds before there have been a large number of cases in his state.

Pritzker is an idiot for not  banning large gatherings yet.

It's also dumb that they haven't banned crowds at all sporting events yet. Should have been done days ago.

It's growing too fast in certain places.

A lot of the social distancing going in our larger municipalities should help us slow the spread of coronavirus.

There's not enough of it in larger metro areas that haven't been hit hard yet. Again, everyone is being reactive instead of proactive.

I think it's ridiculous that people throw out the accusation of overreaction when governments are being proactive on this shit. People don't realize that the reason why some of the other dangerous bugs didn't get as bad was because of proactive measures.

But hell, apparently suggesting to people to limit the number of people you come into contact with is inciting panic and fear, so whatever.

The amount of people minimizing the risks on this board alone and citing any sort of concern as fearmongering and panic is part of the problem. There aren't enough people who understand the gravity of what's going on here.

In a way, I'm way more scared about what the world will look like on the other side of this than I am of the disease itself.

    Probably accurate.

The consequences to the economy are going to be disastrous. I don't trust the US government to put a higher priority on the public safety than they do on the economy. Public health should be the number one concern, deal with the consequences later. But what do I know?

  13. 16 minutes ago, Look at Ray Ray Run said:

While I agree with your thought Jack, the execution is much harder to force.

When you close schools; who takes care of kids? Who can afford to stay home with their children and forgo work?

When you close offices, who protects the businesses and their workers?

Hospitality/Service is the fifth largest industry in the country; 15+ million people work directly in it, and another 30-50 million are directly effected by the industry results. There are 160 million people employed in the USA; you're talking about 30% of the population being hurt significantly by closures and etc. This could cost millions of people their job.

At the end of the day, the government needs to come up with a stimulus plan of some sorts to give people some security to allow them to work from home or take off work in general.

You can't just close everything without a plan to help those people; imo. That plans needs action; if we don't see a feasible plan shortly, the market will dip below where it was 4 years ago and that's a big problem. Company cash hoarding has already begun. Corporate America is not going to bail the USA out; it is driven by profits and not people.

Oh I get it completely. The bottom line is that we should deal with the public health crisis first, and the consequences later. The US system where lassez-faire capitalism rules is not designed to handle a public health crisis at this level. Everyone should come to grips with the consequences of what's about to happen. The huge issue is that people aren't taking this seriously, and accusing those who are of inciting fear and panic.

There's not a plan in the world that can be drummed up that will adequately mitigate the economic consequences of this thing.

  14. Just my opinion, but the US government is acting way too damn slowly, both at the state and federal levels. The huge issue is there's not enough information about effective measures of containment, so everyone is going to let this thing get out of control before they take the action they should have already.

  15. 57 minutes ago, mqr said:

How quickly that happens is up to us.

Right, and 150M people is just under half of the US population.

And if the numbers hold, and 20% of cases are severe, there's not going to be enough hospital beds and a lot of people are going to die.

There aren't enough healthcare workers to support this.

If this guy truly believes this, he should be advocating for a national quarantine immediately.

Oh, sorry, Jack. You pulled another random number out of your butt, so I’ll totally panic now.

Seriously, where do you get off telling people they need to panic about this? 5-7 on the alarm scale? WTF is that?

I think everyone should be concerned enough to take precautions, take it very seriously but not to the levels of panic.....but this is based on what we know now. Again, in a situation like this it's better to overreact than underreact. Always. I think people should be very concerned and take precautions accordingly.

    just FYI.

nah, It's the taking it seriously crowd.

Try to control the people you come in contact with as much as possible that's what I'm saying.

My argument is to try to avoid going to crowded places. Shopping is unavoidable, so I consider that an exception.

I have to work and I am going on vacation next week. I am going to continue to live my life, but I will do it with respect for others by maintaining my cleanliness and etc; as well as not invading peoples personal space. I'm going to Vegas/Arizona next week for 10 days. It's going to be interesting to see how empty it is.

I consider work, going to medical appointments, shopping, etc. essential functions.

I'm still going to hang out with my friends. The biggest thing is to limit the number of people you come in contact with and wash your hands a lot.

I'm not sure you're understanding that the death rate for those over 60 and/or with underlying ailments (especially respiratory like asthma) is roughly 15-20%, with  over 2/3 of those requiring hospitalization.

I can guarantee you that thousands in your city now have it.  Not 7.  There's no testing.  We don't even have testing in Seattle yet readily available.

Yeah, we're way behind on the testing dude.

    I'm about reasonable caution.

In the COVID-19 thread I was advocating shutting stuff down as a proactive measure to get ahead of this. It would probably be the prudent thing to do, but because of the arrogance of the American public, I realize it's not going to be feasible until shit hits the fan. I'm just trying to protect myself any way I can.

I have to go to a doctors appt at a hospital tomorrow, so I'm going to be extra careful.

What an absolutely bizarre response.  1/5 is the estimated fatality rate for those with underlying respiratory illnesses.  You seemingly BRAGGED that your wife was inviting in the grim reaper.  But please I entreat you to take this seriously, for your sake, for my sake, and for everybody's sake.

This is despicable. You’re really insinuating that 20% of asthmatics on this planet are going to die this year? Yes, I’m calm, because I think people like you are full of shit. But the fact that you and Jack and all these others are perfectly happy to run around and inspire fear is absolutely disgusting. I don’t block people but don’t bother responding to me.

If you choose to ignore facts, that's on you. I absolutely hate that people have this attitude. It's fucking irresponsible. This isn't fearmongering dude, this is the seriousness of the situation. You're endangering others by not taking the data seriously.
