  1. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) I am glad Kenny is the GM because since he took over our team has never had a season under .500 and we won the World Series. So I say he is already ahead of you as to who I give my trust in turning this around. Your GM desk would just have a huge PANIC BUTTON that would dump every player in the dugout at the first sign of distress. I would counter that the Marlins GM desk has a huge PANIC BUTTON that dumps every player at the sign of (fiscal) distress and that's worked quite well. I'm being facetious, of course, but not entirely. There needs to be a huge overhaul, and there will be.
  2. Believe it or not, they HAVE scaled it back.
  3. It's going to be Lionel Tate all over again. f***.
  4. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 02:54 PM) with all due respect, i think the tragedy of this situation is far, far more significant than whatever media spin is put on it. and i'm not sure what part of a murder/suicide the media or people who aren't big wrestling fans wouldn't understand. It definitely goes first. But out of this unfathomable tragedy will rise a media looking to crucify the wrestling industry's existence. It's going to be miserable.
  5. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) Good point. I only metion baseball because that seems to be what our government is interested in. ...and baseball seems to be a common point of interest for us. When it comes to steriods in pro sports, I don't think we have even found the tip of the iceberg yet. It's a bigger deal because of records in baseball.
  6. I really don't like this. Not just because it's all so tragic and awful but because it means that every Mediot is going to chomp at the bits about things they don't understand.
  7. Steff, you're a wrestling fan? -- Steroids in baseball? Try drugs in football. Football + wrestling have incredible death rates. Both have a lot of drugs, lots of bad guys, and both have brutal schedules and are brutal in and of themselves.
  8. Benoit hung himself with the weight machine.
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) Greg never said he wasn't evil. He simply said, and backed it up nicely, that you don't have to be a liar or actor to be a monster. People live hellish lives every day that others never know about until something like this happens. The guy seemed to play the part he was paid for in terms of his perception to the "fans. In that respect I guess he was a "actor", but you don't have as many people that have come forward talking about what a great man he was if he wasn't in some capasity. And I definitely don't think it's too much to ask not to kill your family - though I'm sure you were being facetious about that part. It's an evil act, for sure, and Benoit obviously had some serious issues, but I won't call him evil. Killing someone is near-unforgiveable and killing a child is as despicable as it gets. That doesn't necessarily mean he was an evil man. There are dozens of things that could've happened here. Fights, whatever. I do know I can't look at Benoit the same way anymore. I do know that I feel sick to my stomach. But that he's some sick, evil bastard? I can call him sick. I'm assuming you've got ot be a little sick and angry to do something like this, but you don't have to be a monster.
  10. Much more herE: http://www.pwtorch.com/artman/publish/article_20635.shtml
  11. I just think it's odd that you pop in here going off about how much of a bastard Benoit is as if it's anywhere near that simple. It isn't. (I didn't even know you were a wrestling fan.) And I just think the assertion that Benoit's been lying about who he is was a dishonest, misinformed thing to accuse him or anyone of. But we're not going to have much of a discussion, so let's leave it at that.
  12. I really don't know where to start. You don't have to be a "liar and actor" to do something this evil and have nobody suspect it/see it coming/think you're a great guy. The big bad man that kills his family and kills your mother and rapes your sister and steals your cat for a dogfight and breaks into your house and takes your identity doesn't live across the city in a big bad neighborhood. He lives right next door. He lives inside your house. Everyday people do things like this. Are they evil? Sometimes. Sometimes they just do an evil thing. If Martha Stewart blew her kid's brains out, it'd be a hideous thing, and an evil act but would I call her an "evil person" or a "great actress"? Probably not. The truth is we're all capable of awful things and we all carry different faces in different times with different people. It's amazing how many wifebeaters, child molestors and murderers are normal people who just snap, or who have a bad relationship with someone. We've all got awful characteristics inside of us. We are all potential wifebeaters. We are all potential murderers. I don't think Benoit was a phony. I don't know that he was (or wasn't) evil. But give me a break with your broadbrushes and nonsense. I'm not sure how much of this was methodical. We'll find out soon enough. Sounds like he was losing his mind to me. Fight with the wife? Sounds common. Kills her, then says, "What have I done?" and loses it from there. You hear about the "bizarre" text messages he was sending to WWE. I don't know what they were all about. Maybe we'll know, maybe not, but I really think he just lost it and everything went to hell from there.
  13. THIS might change the face of wrestling for a long time.
  14. Rewriting Wrestlemania XX is a slap in the face of all wrestling history. -- What's particularly new about this story? We knew about the murder-suicide. Strangle-smother is a new detail but it doesn't tell me much more. I'd like to know toxicology, suicide note and what else was going on.
  15. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 09:27 AM) i about drove off the road after hearing this on an overnight sports show early this morning. As sad as it is to say....after watching Vince handle things with Eddie G. i wonder how long it will take before he starts pimping out Benoit's memory is stupid storylines. Benoit has been my favorite for years and i pray that due to the situation that the Benoits died, Vince will have enough class to NEVER bring it up. It's a different situation. There's no one on the WWE roster that invokes Benoit's name and image like Eddie's family for him. And besides, if it's true that he killed his wife and seven year old child, WWE will be distancing itself from him, not bringing him in. I've always wondered: were the Guerrerros okay with McMahon "pimping" them? I always thought they approved of the storylines and it was to make them money, but I don't know.
  16. Benoit, according to WWE.com now, sent weird text messages to the WWE on Saturday. No word on what they were.
  17. Georgia police. The Assistant District Attorney. Can't find the exact quote, Mr. > but it was basically, "The details of this are going to be very bizarre," from the assistant DA and yes, from a good Atlanta source. Also, this is leaking around: This is one persons report from TMZ, so it could be false considering the source... 464. My second cousin is an officer with GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigations) and what he's heard in his circle is that Chirs Benoit's wife killed their son Daniel, called Chris and told him to rush home because of an emergency which is why he missed last Sunday's Vengeance PPV. Upon arriving home Benoit killed his wife in a rage for the death of his son and then killed himself Monday morning. His wife's body was found in the master bedroom, strangled with the cord from an alarm clock. The son's body was found in his room appearantly suffocated with a garbage bag. Chris then wrote a suicide note explaining what had happened, apologized to his family, his other children (from a seperate relationship), and his fans. He the fasioned a slip-knot noose from from rope taken from the garage and hung himself from the ballaster in the foyer of his suburban Atlanta home. Doesn't quite explain why he wasn't at Saturday's show, trhough.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 11:53 PM) Stop kidding yourself...pup.
  19. They also said that the details will be very bizarre. Tragic.
  20. QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) "I remember when you were a pup talking about how you wanted Contreras on the Southside "for life." Hypocrite." So fans are supposed to be married to their opinions forever? What does loyalty to a current viewpoint do? I think everyone on this board is a loyal White Sox fan, doesn't mean they can't change their opinions on the team. Players change, people change, MLB changes, and thus fans opinions change. Part of life. Deal with it. First of all, there was green in the post. Green means sarcasm. Second, I was teasing a good friend of mine. Third, people who change their minds are flip-floppers.
  21. I don't want to come off as totally inappropriate but I used to LOVE Nancy Sullivan.
  22. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) I'd do any one of Humber/Milledge/Pelfrey/Martinez/Gomez for Contreras straight up. I remember when you were a pup talking about how you wanted Contreras on the Southside "for life." Hypocrite.
  23. Interesting trivia: Dean Malenko is credited as being the inventor of the Crippler Crossface [1], Goldberg's Jackhammer [2] and the Dudley Boyz' Dudley Death Drop [3]. I didn't know that. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) They did when Eddie died. Okay. I keep in touch with PPVs and writeups nowadays. Thanks.
