2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread

Wasn't there a story about Royce Clayton and Frank Thomas' wife? I wonder how often this kind of thing happens... Oh, and it's a little old, but... http://soxmachine.com/blogs/soxmachine/arc...11/16/2010.aspx and this one, which is a little more relevant today: http://soxmachine.com/blogs/soxmachine/articles/1967.aspx Good stuff. -

Yup, did a little search and found some stuff on it in The Cub Reporter. Poor Sandberg. And fathom, you're right: there are plenty of rumors that it was Martinez. -
Say what you will, I've always liked Uribe and wish him on the Southside for a good while unless Young is the replacement, or Furcal, or Tejada. But beyond that, I find him to be a good ninth hitter for the White Sox' purposes. He's always been, to my knowledge, a great clubhouse guy and a good, nice man, too, so I'm glad he's okay and in the clear.

QUOTE(R.Sweeney @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) Well what do you expect from a Flub fan. I think he was confusing MB for Sandburg. Next time ask him what Grace thought of Sandburgs wife. Ha, that's a little before my time. I suppose Mark Grace was sleeping with Ryne Sandburg's wife? Where d'you know this from -- the papers, a book? -

Well, strikeouts are contagious, and he likes to K., so maybe the other players will pick it up... -
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 05:50 PM) Probably. But not definitely. On rare occasion, some people make dramatic changes in their lives and their fundamental beliefs. Rarely, to be sure.

Hippies Still Trying to Ruin Country

QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 05:51 PM) I agree with all of what was written. However she should have added two things: - admit that Bush (whom I voted for twice...) and his admn really messed up and although his policy might be the best thing for the country, its implementation was a complete and utter embarassment. -that ubber-religious conservatives could destroy the country just as easily as wacko hippies. I don't see how anyone can take this serious: I don't know of any news agency that runs stories about how right on these people are who say that our troops are stormtroopers who love to burn babies. I'd never heard anything remotely like that before. It's crazy. -

A Cub fan and I were talking earlier today and he said, "Buehrle hasn't been the same since he got cheated on by his wife." My friend Rashawn, a Cub fan went, "What?!" and I said, "Uh, I don't think that happened or that, if it did, you'd know about it." Then he told me how much better the Cubs were going to be next year and that Soriano would take them all the way. It was the weirdest conversation. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) Vazquez also has spent most of his career in the NL not having to face DHs. He did pitch pretty well down the stretch, and probably deserved some more wins, however earlier in the season he got some wins when he had no business getting them. It evened out and what you got was a guy a shade under .500 with a mediocre ERA. That is eerily similar to his career stats and he's been around a long time. Personally, I'd advocate a lifetime contract for Kenny Williams if he got real crazy and traded both of them for a couple of big packages. Use the salary relief to sign Zito or Schmidt and you have your rotation intact and have replenished your system. That would be my ultimate scenario but it won't happen. If it does, though...

Boston Globe Piece on Scott Boras

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 02:31 AM) I'm honestly not sure how much more unnecessary slurping I can handle. O RLY?! Barry Zito, 29 - 102 wins Mark Buehrle, 28 - 97 wins They're both looking at a crapshoot. By the way, I'm really happy to see a fellow YTMNDer on the board, like Santo=Dorf. At least, that's where I'm assuming you got the O RLY?! QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 08:06 AM) My favorite part was the insinutation that Alex Rodriguez will hit over 1000 homers according to their projections... Damn, and I thought we were the only ones who lived baseball on the Playstations... I like the nonsense about Zito, personally. I think I might be Zito's biggest fan on SoxTalk and I think it's bull. -
Is it possible to be a reformed man, in the case of corruption? I'm under the impression that you're a money-grubber or you're not, and that's not going to change because you got caught one day, IMO. It'll just make you more careful.

Suggestions for Debate Questions/Topics

Some theorists believe that Economic collapse causes extinction. Is this what happened to the dinosaurs? -
I love AJ Pierzynski. I think he's the heart and soul of this team. At least, he'll always be the first position player I think of when I think of 2005 and beyond.

Not to be, ah, disrespectful to Minors, but the op-ed was something he'd write and I know there are plenty of others who would write it. -

Mayor Daley not so green after all
Gregory Pratt replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
It's a shame that Daley doesn't use his power to significantly Greenify the City. He certainly has the power to do it. He can do anything in this town. -

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/20...ras-cover_x.htm It's a good article on Boras. I'm not sure if he comes off looking good or bad.

Furcal would be the best upgrade I can think of. Not gonna happen.

QUOTE(shoota @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) Your response has no substance disproving my statement suggesting Garland is the lowest risk based on physical, mental and mechanical problems. Your point about Vazquez being the only pitcher to be physically fine is useless because my statement was not solely based on physical injury, but factored mental instability and pitching mechanics too. Your argument lacks logic. Are you suggesting Garland's dead arm period makes him less reliable than Contreras who went on the DL and changed his arm angle to avoid pitching pain; Buehrle, who ended the year with the worst half of his career; Vazquez, who had his mechanics changed and fought and lost mental wars; or Garcia who may never get his fastball back? Who says I was making an argument? I was pointing something out, nothing more, like an editor points out a missing comma or a faulty transition. I'm not saying that Garland isn't the lowest injury risk. I'm just pointing out that, hey, it isn't just the Old Men Of the Staff who wound up at some point or another hurt. I was simply pointing out that as far as physical issues, only the one who wasn't involved in 2005 went unscathed. I'd imagine Garland the lowest injury risk of them all since he hasn't thrown anywhere near as many innings as the others, is fairly young, and doesn't throw particularly hard. That said, I think he's the most likely to suck next year, too, aside from McCarthy who I think is going to be a huge homerun machine. But on the subject of injuries, I think McCarthy is the biggest injury risk. Dude's mechanics aren't particularly inspiring, and I imagine his career will end early as a result. Like Mark Prior. That's just my thoughts -- and I'm not saying, "DON'T PUT HIM IN THE ROTATION!" or anything because he's bound to wind up losing his career to injury, I'm just saying that's what I think will eventually happen to Young Cy Young.
-
By his own admission Garland started the season with dead arm, so it isn't as if only Contreras and Buehrle and Garcia experienced effects from 2005. Vazquez is, from what is publicly known, the only one who was physically fine all season.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) Nah, I'm pretty confident in saying that Buehrle is more consistent and that Contreras is beter. I agree.
