QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Thanks for your contributions to discussing actual baseball. I love people a decade younger than myself trying to talk like a smartass to me. I'm done with this conversation with you. I'm sorry to see that you're not going to tell me where I can find a flying f***. I was quite interested, too, because someday I might want to give one, you know? I'm putting you on ignore now.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) You specifically told me to jump off a bridge. I can't speak for anybody else. Oh, don't pretend that you haven't got a basic understanding of American phrases. Feel free to take a figure of speech literally, and have a cow while you're at it.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:33 PM) I wonder if he knows you're usually one of the more optimistic posters. What do I care about his optimism? Even pessimists can make good points...although, not often! Jesus Christ, fathom. "We need to make some trades, get new pitchers LOLOLOLZ!!!!" "Our pitching can't win in the playoffs!" None of that is "Let's blow this team up" in different words? And don't give me such garbage about me telling someone to jump off the bridge. Anyone with a basic understanding of American catchphrases would've understood that I didn't mean that literally. English is your first language, right? But, why don't you tell me -- where do you get a flying f*** to give? Is that something you pick up in an airplane, or something?

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) Nobody is jumping off a bridge. But I'm not being a blind homer, either. How can one not be concerned with Freddy Garcia right now? Now, I agree that saying s*** like "he sucks" or "trade him for a bag of popcorn" is going overboard. Nobody? And my personal concerns with Freddy have been well-documented. But when everyone's b****ing and crying about how awful our pitching is, that we need to make trades, blah blah blah, it gets tiring. It's not like I've attacked anyone personally over it. I'm just saying that those of you who want to jump off a bridge in tears because our pitching doesn't pitch like Roger Clemens at his best every single night are so melodramatic.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) Man, someone got to you today. I know it's ironic to hear this from me, but calm down. What are you talking about? He's prophesizing doom over the rotation. All I'm saying is, if he feels the need to blow the team up and trash the pitching and talk about how poor our rotation is, he can feel free to hop off that bridge but I'm not joining him there.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) No s***. But this team is still built on pitching. Fine, go jump off the bridge because of the rotation.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) The point of picking up Thome was to improve what was an inconsistent offense last year. Not to give our starters (except for Jose, and to a lesser degree Mark) the green-light to pitch as poorly as they have. The point was to pick up runs, and take some pressure off of the pitching.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:21 PM) YOU'RE ON A ROLL!!!! Lets get rid of Jenks, Thornton and Riske also. CGSO OR BUST BABY!!! Who needs a bullpen when you're riding STALLIONS into battle?!
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) We defenitely rely more on our offense to win games this year but that panic in the streets attitude by some around here is totally laughable. Did any of you guys honestly expect the staff to repeat last years performance? The point of picking up Thome was in making sure that they didn't have to. Maybe we should get rid of Thome. That'll teach the pitchers not to ever expect run support. 1-0 ballgames or bust.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) Yes, but it's also painfully clear that they're still the #4 starting staff in the AL despite all those problems. And it'd be pretty hard for them to do worse in the 2nd half than they did in the first. Freddy sucks. He can't even throw hard anymore! Garland sucks. And, haven't you ever seen his demeanor? He doesn't care about the team winning or losing! Buehrle is starting to suck. Haven't you seen enough?! Vazquez is nuts, and not even the good Zambrano kind! And Contreras? Cut him before he reverts to New York form. Blow the team up. Except the offense. Well, Uribe too. And while we're at it, we need Ken Griffey.

"The two heavyweights trading blows in this inning!" I liked that, it was kind of nifty.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) This year's version of Garcia is absolutely nothing like last year's. I wish Ozzie would stop kissin' Freddy's ass and call him out. I think we need another berating in the dugout. For all of our players.

Let's not repeat last night's Sox on Sox violence, everyone.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) Maybe he got himself some hookers last night.
-
QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) I'm not so mad at Garcia. I am mad that Pods cannot even ground a ball in the outfield and Mack is the worst CF of all time. Why does Ozzie insist on playing the stupid L/R matchups is beyond me.
-
QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) i believed last year. our staff was awesome. but cmon, look at out starters this year, theyve been awful. but hey, maybe they'll pitch better? Let's make a bet on it.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 01:33 PM) This s*** would have happened regardless of Mackowiak. No way that 89 mph Garcia was going to keep hitting every corner imaginable with his pitches. If this is Garcia stepping up, then he sucks worse than I thought. Freddy's been pitching around hits and doubles all day. If Mack had done his job on the shallow popup, we wouldn't be in this situation.
-
What a shame that Freddy steps his game up today and the defense doesn't back him up. Thanks, Mac.

God damn. Anderson, please.

Oh my.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) Anyway, back to Mexico -- the European Union observers have reported no significant irregularities. If there's any proof of fraud beyond a couple of longtime PRDers being quoted in a paper, now would be a good time to provide it, b/c at this point the PRD just looks undemocratic. A few days ago, I wrote about it on my blog, and these were my own personal thoughts on the matter: And then I cited this article and talked about it, http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/...st_electri.html, because it had interesting information about their election system:

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) Hugo Chavez is a bit of a thug. But no worse by any means than any thug that has manhandled a South American country before him. In fact, because a lot of his actions have been geared toward improving the livelihood of Venezuela's poorest, he's a much better thug comparatively than most of the thugs we have running things in this world. Eh, good intentions don't make up for thuggery, IMO.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) So you think it is ok that he is taking private businesses and turning them into state businesses? His country wouldn't even be where it is now if it wasn't for private industry investing there, and then he goes and screws them all by taking it. How is that going to help future investments? Plus, the guy is a loony! He is like Iggy, seeing black helicopters around every hill. The US may not be able to find Osama, but with him in public as much as he is, if we wanted to assassinate him, he would be gone already. All his support talk sounds alot like the 'jingoism' that I keep hearing the US is guilty of. I am going to backtrack a bit, because I didn't quite think my post through and sort of misstated what I was talking about. Well, I have a problem with him forcing private businesses into state businesses. I take back the italicized part, with that in mind. Still, I was making the point that I don't understand why the hatred for him. Dislike, sure, and disagreement, but it's not as if he goes about killing his own people or starting wars. But, I must confess I am not that well-versed in Hugo Chavez. If he has done those things, by all means, let me know, and I'll even take that back.
