  1. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) 2) Those Marlins may have picked up young talent (much of which was from the offseason trade of Pierre) but they aren't winning anything, so they are hardly a team to emulate. you should get your facts straight the marlins are pretty much one of the best organizations to emulate, 2 WS titles in less than 10years!! consistent production from their farm system, great scouting and FO, and one of the lowest payrolls in mlb. they make something out of nothing more often than not, and they took Santanta before the twins in the rule V before he was traded to them. Dan Uggla from the D-Backs, and my NLROY pick another rule V pick from 04 in the AAA phase; Alejandro De Aza(hes currently starting CF for them, and has hit safely in every game this season)
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) I think that the only thing that might fix him might be a switch to a new team/pitching coach, but Houston isn't just going to want to dump him for nothing. The Marlins & Tribe should look into this, obviously the astros can't affod to put him to save situations to increase his value with out putting the team in jeopardy, both teams have a very good farm system and are in need of a more BP help.
  3. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) I agree on Long. He was really tired last season and it showed and hopefully the full off-season has him fresh because with his stuff there is no reason he shouldn't succeed. Plus I like that the Sox are stretching him out as a starter (even though he projects as a reliever) because it will force him to actually develop some other pitchers which will help him a lot once he shifts over to the pen (where he'd only rely on his two pitches and make little development outside of that). I really like this approach by the organization, we all know Longs future is in the BP, i wouldn't mind seeing them do this with more good BP arms, maybe even Logan. also glad to see Josh go 2-5 with a HR, and Floyd pitch well
  4. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 08:27 AM) Denorfia from the Reds is another name, but I think he's a little long in the tooth, although Pods was the same way. I'm not sure either Denorfia or Willits are going to get you enough movement on the basepaths though. A lot of people argued we should get someone like Frank Catalanotto for LF because OBP is more important than merely SB's and pure speed, it's an interesting argument. While we're at it, might as well get Freel. LOL. Willits has the speed to steal 40+, in 06 he stole 35 between AAA and The show, and in '05 40, and in '04 44 the kid has speed, and is a switch hitter, add the fact that he has a very very steady glove and a decent arm you can put him anywhere in the OF Reggie Willits = QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 10:06 AM) Alejandro De Aza (just liked the name, but he's very fast) De Aza is my choice for NL ROY; Troy Tulowitzki who?
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) I'm waiting for one person to see this thread and mention the name Reggie Willits. He knows who he is. don't hate the player, hate the game he made the angel 25 and hes been impressive thus far .400 (2/5) 2BB/1K, hes got a great eye, can steal a bag, has a great glove and just amazing OBP skills. I'd love to have him. Crede after this season for Sean Rodriguez and Willits, and some power BP arm that can't find the zone or has a "character" issue ala jenks/turnbow
  6. howd Javy look? i seen he gave up 4 walks and a hit, over 6.

  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) Baseball tonight, after the yankees highlights, Peter Gammons calls Tori Hunter one of the greatest players in the game. More Name Than Game
  10. The Rays actually have a good amount of good SP both and the milb and mlb level Kazmir + Shields(solid 3/4) with more room to improve Jacob McGee, Jeff Niemann, Wade Davis and then you figure they'll prolly grab LHP David Price as the first pick, thats a pretty stacked Rotation. It appears they've got their closer of the future in Juan Salas and if Orvella can put it together again like '05, he'll be a decent set up man. I'm going to be very interested in how they approach the draft this year itd be nice to see them take good College BP arms, because that appears to be their future weakness. If i was in the Rays FO, as soon as Cantu puts together anything solid at AAA ship him off for anything, and with regards to Baldelli id be looking for 3/4 SP and two good up and coming BP arm. Their future looks bright OF - Crawford, Dukes, Young MI - Reid Brignac, Upton CI - Evan Longoria, Akinori Iwamura C - Dioner Navarro
  11. we could've really used hager these past 3 games, our BP is taxed.
  12. hahahahah twice in 2 days pods cant get a stolen base of V-mart, i bet PK could
  13. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 12:55 AM) The great thing about playing in such a tough division is we will be exposed early (like Cleveland) if we don't cinch 'em up and hunker down and show some cajones. Facing Sabathia 3 times and Santana at least once will bring out the best (and worst) in this ballclub. KW was smart to anticipate the aging of the club (Contreras, Thome, Dye) and not to sign anyone long-term, IMO. If the ballclub is buried in 4th place (or 5th) in June or July, the strategy moving forward is obvious. There's really no other choice. If that means Buehrle, Crede, Dye and even deeper cuts occur to the heart of this ballclub, the White Sox will go on...they'll still wear the same jerseys, only the names will change. You can never get too attached to one player, and losing Thomas, Ordonez, Lee and Valentin should have taught the younger fans that the organization being a "winner" always comes before individual players. Restructuring the ballclub now will be a lot easier than doing it without a WS championship in the recent past. I think, in time, dumping McCarthy and Garcia will look like intelligent moves that maximized the return available for those two pitchers, pundits about the Garcia deal notwithstanding. The Astros were smart enough to steer away from former pitcher Garcia and maybe even Garland, liking the "upside" of Jennings much more than the "downside" of Garcia. JG has won 36 games over the last two years, and half the staff at Baseball Prospectus wouldn't be able to tell you he was tied for the MLB lead in victories over that time span...or that the White Sox also had the most wins as well. There's something missing with this team and last year's team, and you can exactly put a finger on it, but you can certainly feel or sense it in your bones. It won't take an 0-6 start, Buehrle getting hammered or the Twins sweeping us (out to a 6 game lead the first week?) for many diehard Sox followers to realize major changes are on the horizon with this club. nice post. honestly i look forward to seeing the approach KW takes to this years draft(its the deepest in 15 years) and rebuilding. If the sox are out of contention i would hope KW maxamizes our return for dye/iguchi/crede/MB and yes im well aware of the sox budget. Also ozzie can't be at the helm when we rebuild, im not talkng full on firesale but changes are coming. nothing gold can stay ponyboy anyways i wish the best for the sox this season, its still young and im not jaded yet
  14. Ruh Roh!!!1!!!1!!!!!1 Some one thinks K-Rod is cheating

  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 3, 2007 -> 12:39 AM) I can't comment on the situation, but lets be honest, both Masset and Aardsma are more capable of throwing multiple innings than Logan. Logan is a reliever, Massett and Aardsma both have some experience throwing longer outings and to go with that with a young 5th starter my guess is the Sox felt it more valuable to carry a couple more guys that can go longer in case we have some starters struggle to go deep in a game. And I have long said our pen is going to have days where no one will throw strikes, I have no doubt about that. I call BS on Logan not being able to go multiple innings. he did it on 05/02/06 2.1 against the tribe with 5k and 1BB, when hes on and not doubting himself hes filthy.
  17. bold prediction, Pablo hits for the cycle(inside the park homerun)
