  1. ill start of this game thread right, O-E-O Pa-blo
  2. i was about to say that with jiggets, did he fet fired?
  3. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) How many errors does BA have? And Milledge? hmm... yeah but in fairness to milledge those errors were at fenway if im not mistaken and in LF. Hes only 21 now his potential upside is Carlos Beltran and his downside is Corey Patterson and once again i like Corey Patterson
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) If I was to ask you to rank your starting pitchers, including McCarthy, by their likelihood to succeed in the second half and 2007, how would you rank them? Garcia's junk is 's***ted on' for good reason. Testify Brother Cheat Testify!!!!!!!!
  5. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) By the way, I wonder if Buster Olney knows how powerful he is: By merely mentioning a possible trade on tv today, he triggered a 175 post thread involving 44 separate posters in chicago... many of whom have been checking the tread all damn day... I don't think people are buying into the hype of Olney, i think people(myself included) find his attempts at putting a trade together laughable, lest we forget the Jason Schmidt for McCarthy+Anderson idea, thats crazy, and i think people are just bored and waiting till the game @ 6.
  6. Heath Phillips if MB doesn't want to reup reasonably.
  7. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) in no way is this post saying that we could get milledge, but since hes been discussed so much let me say that I think he is one of the most overrated prospects in baseball.....anytime any prospect in the bosox, mets, yankees system puts up good numbers, they become the next fill in the blank, and prospects like chris young who in my opinion will be the superior player to milledge are talked about far less often, so the general consensus is that milledge is a sure fire stud this is not to say hes not a good, even great prospect, but so many people tend to overrate him and say hes a sure fire stud i think your right prospects like Nick Markakis go by the wayside because hes with the 0's. while i think milledge has the potential to be good, i also think he has the potential to be Corey Patterson and i like Corey Patterson, so that for what its worth.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) If KW is shopping Freddy, Ozzie must have given his blessing. I think that says enough right there. I agree, like has been mentioned him showing up his own players, Ozzie (family or not) doesn't stand for that crap.
  9. QUOTE(Contreras @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) 3 IP, 3 BB. Solidly s***ty. have you watched his pitching on milb.com's game day? thanks.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) For the short-term, Gordon is more valuable than Milledge. We all know that we're focused on the next 2 seasons as our "window". your selling 2 seasons as our "window" and im not buying.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) I don't know about that. He would be pitching in a bigger park, but he lets lots of hitters get on base now, and when they get there, they run wild. Freddy Garcia 2006 is a completely different pitcher from anything we have seen from him earlier. He could easily turn into a total disaster. I'm not a fan of Vazquez, but in the playoffs I'd rather have him pitching than Freddy throwing up his junk. The mets now have the best offense in the NL(which isn't saying much, seeing how they were man handled by the O's), with the reds tradeing away Lopez and Kearns. Garcia would face a pitcher 2-3 times a game, his numbers would go down, and like you said he would be in a bigger park. Garcia has never been able to hold on runners so i don't see how that changes now. Also the mets get 1 year and 3months out of Garcia, where as if they had gotten Zito they woul've gotten 3months and had to deal with Satan in the offseason. I think people give the mets FO to much credit, milledge isn't as untouchable as some of you make him out to be.
  12. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) yes but you have to be concerned about injury. if anything happens and we dont have bmac, we are in big trouble We've got SP depth down at AAA, now don't laugh but we've got Haeger and Phillips and both preformed well at the AAA allstar game, and through out the course of a season. Also Hermanson is going to continue his rehab, hes been solid down at AAA, and Tracey is also down there.
  13. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) i think this is bulls***, east coast bias made-up. the mets have nothing that we need... we won't be getting beltran to play centerfield, we're not looking for prospects, and their pen is not that good. i take no stock in this rumour. thats not entirely true Steve, KW said that they would be looking for prospects at the trade deadline for the future, it was with regards to Politte but that mentality is there.
  14. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) From everything I read, Zito would be available provided you gave Beane the right combo of players. Schmidt also might be available. Regardless, we are talking about Freddy Garcia. You might give him the tag of "best starting pitcher available" but that really is meaningless. We've both seen Garcia pitch for the entire season. There's no way in the world I would give up our best prospects (Anderson, Fields, McCarthy) to trade for him if some other GM made him available. agreed from a white sox prespective, but you move him to the NL and his stats go down drasticly.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:01 AM) Well, about the only team I could see actually being able to say that might be the Nationals with Livan Hernandez, who interestingly enough has an ERA of about 6 in the NL this year. Maybe the Marlins with D-Train, but I think they'll still hold onto him as good as they've looked this year. Maybe the Braves with Smoltz, but they really don't have room for Milledge in their outfield with Francoeur. Look up and down the list...almost every team in contention needs pitching to make a run. Boston, NY, Toronto, Detroit, Minnesota, Texas, The Mets, the Cardinals, the Brewers, the Reds, the Padres, the Rockies, the Giants, all of them could use another starting pitcher. The only teams in contention with enough starting pitching on paper IMO are the A's, the Halos, maybe Houston, and the White Sox. And the A's and Halos are in no position to deal away starting pitching unless they're white flagging this whole season. The White Sox are about the only team who is in a position to give away a genuinely top of the rotation starting pitcher, as we have BMac sitting around waiting. Everyone else needs pitching, and the teams at the bottom of the league, aside from Florida, don't have arms nearly as good as Vazquez/Garcia could be. Like you said balta the marlins aren't trading Willis, Olivo(ha! funny saying this, but in a good way) is going to be their catcher for the next 3-5 years, hes going to get locked up, and all the Marlins are looking for is a blue chip CF, and the peices they have to trade to aquire it are the following : Herges, Borowski, & Mitre/a ton of top pitching prospects. Another note is the braves are 6 out of the WC, and i wouldn't be supprised if they come back into the picture the second half, so its obvious that there aren't alot of real sellers and pitching good pitching is hard to find and the white sox again will come out on top. God i love this FO.
  16. Aside from an "elite" reliever which i don't truly see the need for, our bullpen is good, not amazing, but real good. Take out Politte and add up everyone's ERAs + WHIP and you come up with this. If we get Hermanson to come back with a career average year we're golden, and do you truly think McCarthy is going to have a 4.25 ERA all season? i don't. McCarthy 4.25ERA 1.23WHIP *including game start Hermanson 4.21ERA 1.36WHIP *career average year Thornton 3.13ERA 1.20WHIP Cotts 2.95ERA 1.09WHIP Riske 2.75ERA 1.20WHIP Jenks 2.53ERA 1.11WHIP = 3.30ERA 1.19WHIP So just from looking at this it, and the fact that we've got SP depth, the white sox are in the drivers seat and unless we get milledge or something of that nature from the mets i don't see the need to deal. I can understand the mets not wanting to give up milledge for Zito for 3 months of service, but with Garcia you've got 3 months and a club opition for next year, and with Vazquez you've got him till '09.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 12:10 AM) Milledge ain't being traded. He's like a young Carl Everett though. Loud, a bit of a hot dog and iffy defense. lol how can you say that? hes got youthful exuberance, and at least he believes in dinosaurs.
  18. lol even when espn is shooting a shotgun into the dark hoping to hit something, they can't get it right.
  19. Olney was just on cold pizza this morning saying the white sox were talking of trading Jon Garland or Freddy Garcia to the mets for middle relief. Now honestly that sounds crazy, starting pitching is at a premium in MLB. Garcia has a club option for '07 and Garland is locked up till '09 and has a no trade clause this year. So unless we're getting Milledge + Bradford/Oliver back, i don't see it happening. There was a recent article on white sox.com saying KW is in a "holding pattern", and that aside from a 6th man in the pen our roster is set. Its pretty apparent that the mets outside of Glavine and Pedro(DL) don't have a 3-5th starter and while they will make the post season, they will get decimated by Houston.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 06:00 PM) Classic trade of overpaying for a need and giving up the best players in the deal to do so. I suppose if there's 1 saving grace for Krivsky, Majewski and Bray are still both young and should be able to contribute for a few years. Will be interesting to see how Denforia does in the majors finally as well. I think hes going to be a stud, i dont hes RF material, his arm is good, but not RF good, and obviously KGJ and Dunn can't play there so its his for the taking. Denorfia is going to be real good, book it.
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) I have a question. I've heard a lot on this board about Ryan Wagner and how great he is. Why, exactly, was he not in the Reds' bullpen? Is he still just a prospect with a high ceiling? Or was he already in the majors and fell out of favor with the management? ill break it down for ya milk, Ryan Wagner has been absolutely bad at AAA, and is no longer on there top 20 prospect list hes only 23, he was the reds first round draft choice in '03. He reminds me alot of Matt Thornton in the sense that he has a ton of potential but its being wasted within the reds organization and hes faced ML hitting before, much like Matt with the M's. Ryan's problems aren't mental, they're mechanical. This would be a classic Coop turn around special a la Thornton/Cotts/Jose. He features a 84-87 mph slider that tops out at an 80 on the scale, and also a 91-94 mph sinking fastball. You can read more about him here.
  22. QUOTE(R.J. @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) Holy god is this a robbery. And adding Ryan Wagner to the deal is icing on the cake. Whether they intended to or not, this makes the Reds the 4th best team in that division and huge huge sellers in this market. This has white flag written all over it and I just can't understand what they were hoping to achieve by this. man...i really wanted Coop to get his hands on Wagner....Damn!
