July 13, 200619 yr ESPN is reporting that the Reds trade A. Kearns, F. Lopez, and R. Wagner to the Nationals for 5 players, including Royce Clayton, Majewski, and a few others. What in the hell are the Reds thinking? Lopez is one of the more productive SS in the National League.

July 13, 200619 yr Well... Bray and Majewaodifjslkgjalk are both pretty decent relievers and both are young... Lopez is a real good bat... but has pretty terrible defense... Royce would probably be a defensive upgrade... definitely looks like a dumb move in the long term... but the defense and pitching help might be just enough to get them past the cards this year...
July 13, 200619 yr If the Reds have something else long-term at Shortstop, this trade might make sense for them a few years down the road, as they could wind up with some decent bullpen talent out of it, and that's one area they've been sorely lacking, as we found out. But it's hard for me to see how this won't hurt them this year, especially with the loss of Kearns.
July 13, 200619 yr Holy god is this a robbery. And adding Ryan Wagner to the deal is icing on the cake. Whether they intended to or not, this makes the Reds the 4th best team in that division and huge huge sellers in this market. This has white flag written all over it and I just can't understand what they were hoping to achieve by this.

He was a first round draft pick a few years back. He's got good stuff and his first year in the majors he was very, very good. After that though, he just struggled for whatever reason.
