Will Sox be buyers, not sellers, at the trade deadline?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 07:32 PM) I strongly disagree. If we're a contender, we shouldn't trade assets just because we're ahead of schedule. the sox should be selling high on a resurgent Dunn and Ramirez if it brings back a solid return. Its always better to trade a year to early than a year to late and if Alexei is on pace for a 3.5-4WAR season there is no better time than cash in the chips with him, Especially with the log jam of MI prospects behind him. -

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) What happens if they get hot and are actually in 1st place around the deadline? You count your lucky stars and still take this year as a rebuilding one. It would be foolish to accept that being in contention we shouldn't leverage all our assets to maintain a window that'll last 6-8 years of strong contention starting as soon as '15. There are three options that could conceivably replace Alexei at a fraction of the cost in this order Semien, Sanchez and Saladino. Alexei getting traded at the deadline would be owed 15.75M guaranteed or 24.75 till 2016. Thats an additional 10M to put towards our needs going forward the sox could conceivably spend 40-60M next offseason. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) Dunn? Alexei? Downs? Lindstrom all fit under that category? What would they want to spend that money on? A DH possibly as well possibly one of the top international free agents: Choi 3B and Despagine(if he defects) OF, Kenta Maeda RHP all come to mind. -
FutureSox: Micah Johnson Making Positive Strides

QUOTE (y2chae @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 10:27 AM) Probably would make sense to trade someone in this log jam for a reliable pen arm. I agree also welcome to the board! -

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 07:27 AM) How much longer in B'Ham, I wonder? May need to clear a spot in Charlotte soon. Charlotte is a s*** show right now, even more so once Conor and Kepp come back. Semien and Garcia might get sent down and both Sanchez and Saladino have been playing really well elevating their respective prospect statues again. Saladino - .291/.347/.477 -.824 8.8BB% 14.3K% .195ISO .328BABIP (only 18 points higher than what originally put him on the prospect map at A+) over his last ten he has been in a slump .184/.205/.368 -.574. Saladino will be 25 in July if he keeps up this pace there is a good chance we see him in September. He has the ability to be a 15+HR threat at the sacrifice of some average and discipline and his swing can get a bit long if he goes that route, his defense at short is average as well. Honestly everything about Saladino reminds me of Mark Derosa from his draft status(7th rounders) to physical description 6'1 200ish to tools and what appears to be minor league track record. His ceiling could be a great bench piece that unlocks his tools into skills and develops into a solid regular. Sanchez - .292/.369/.337 -.706 9.8BB% 20.6K% .046ISO .368BABIP he has the hit tool to sustain a .330+BABIP, over his last 10 games he has been on a tear .429/.500/.486 -.986 and his glove at 2B has been reported to be well above average boarding on special. Sanchez is only 21 and will turn 22 in late June so there is plenty of time for development at AAA, he could repeat the level 2 more times and still be one pace for a great major league career. His profile to me screams Everth Cabrera and Erick Aybar or Alexei Ramirez in a down year. So having said all that it might be a while till Micah makes it to AAA because of the log jam of depth at 2B and the middle infield in general. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 02:53 PM) I really don't think that we are all that flush in the outfield as we are lead to believe. I have been thinking, if gillaspie (3b) is for real, where do we put matt Davidson? in the outfield, dh, and where will that leave ravelo? I been wondering if he can turn into a hitter like keppinger was suppose to have been. I consider myself a big fan of Conor but if he can't hit .650-.670 against LHP then he is just a good platoon bat with solid defense that will be a cheap option for our bench. With Jeong Choi announcing to the world that he wants to play in MLB this could be an opportunity for Hahn to get creative. Provided Davidson gets out of his funk and the Padres let Headley walk(which appears very likely) we could match up very well with them; something like Davidson, Thompson and Flowers for Grandal and Torres.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 09:09 PM) Since when is 2B more of a pop position then SS? I agree and in addition to that Sanchez won't be 22 until after the draft so there is plenty of time for him to grow and develop. His glove is already well above average at 2B and i wouldn't be surprised to see him as a tick above average at short, power is always the last tool to develop and the fact that he is showing competency at the plate and translating his VWL results are very encouraging. He could develop into something special in the MI due to his age and tools, something like Erick Aybar.
