QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 08:08 PM) In what dimension do the Orioles give Brian Roberts for Javy Vazquez? When Reinsdorf writes a check for $25 million and sends it with Javy. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) The White Sox have to get more speed next year, and will need a lead off guy. They need to keep power. You need power at USCF. I think that's the attitude that's gotten them into trouble. It's not a big park, so why not get guys who have a line drive approach? With the small park, a lot of those line drives will go out anyway. But more importantly, the team is less likely to slump and will be better on the road. A good example of building wisely with that kind of park is the Phillies. Yes, they have Burrell and Howard, but the rest of their lineup is filled with guys like Victorino, Rollins and Utley, all line-drive hitters. And they hit plenty of home runs. The Sox are not alone in falling prey to the idea that a small park means you need power. But I have never understood why teams in smaller parks feel like they have to get big thumpers up and down their lineup -- home runs will come in these places WITHOUT going for power guys. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 07:50 PM) I disagree...we'll see at least 3 new offensive starters. I hope that one of them is Nick Swisher's lighter hitting brother, Ned. -

Did Hawk just say that the 3 best teams that he saw this year were the Angels, Cubs and White Sox? LOL. Was he at the park the days that the Rays and Red Sox were in town? Of course, Hawk was the guy who said that the 2006 team had more talent than any he had ever seen in all his years in baseball. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) I am hoping and praying that as soon as our last regular season ends, Hawk announces he is retiring from the booth. Dye just pulled a Podswisher. That made me laugh. After he got called out, Dye just stared at the umpire -- different approach than the other guys. Pods used to prance out to left. Swish slowly takes off his batting gloves and helmet, touches his gamer eyeblack, and says something hilariously Swishlike. -

QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) Shoulda stuck with the 5-man rotation Ozzie........jerkoff. That was the downfall IMO of the past few weeks. Always a panic move. I don't know, maybe Kenny Williams could've traded for someone. Byrd. Washburn. Kenny Rogers. Hell, bring in Chad Bradford and Carrasco could've gone to that spot; he was going well then, and he's a starter. -

QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) When that trade happened I hated it. The guy is a sorry hitter, carer average under .250...sad thing is, he isn't even sniffing .250 this year. NICE. Didn't you hear? I mean, Swish wasn't even available. Kenny had to pry him loose. Baaaaaaaad move? Yyyyyy-eeeesss! -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 07:21 PM) i think the problem with vazquez is a problem with perception...vazquez maybe had a million dollar arm when he was 23, but he's not 23 years old anymore....his changeup is a wildly inconsistent pitch....and its not even close to being as good as hawk says it is (im convinced hawk thinks its a ++ pitch based on one game javy pitched against us when he was a yankee).....he has a good curve ball, but he has brutal command with it...hangs it far too often, and rarely can throw it for strikes...that leaves his fastball which normally he has good command of, but not always....and even when he does, its 91-94, not 94-96.....and his slider, which he also loses command of.. he's one of those pitchers who has good control, but bad command I've been saying this for 3 years. His ability is wildly overrated because he lacks command. But it is true that he has no sack. Mediocre + No Balls = Not Good -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) I dont even blame the players, I blame Ozzie. He has been brutal with his line ups, brutal with his pitch selection, brutal with his bull pen, and when the umpires have been shafting the Sox he doesnt even get up and fight. He just sits there and takes it. Ozzie needs to decide whether he still wants to be a manager, cause right now hes not doing s***. Someone should tell him that, if gets tossed, it's not like he'd be missed. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Vazquez has to be one of the most disappointing players in Sox history, all things considered. But not if anyone had watched his career before he got here. Hated the trade from day one. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) Most of us have been saying that for a few months. The team has a good power core, and should stick with it. It would dumb to move away from it, seeing as we play 81 games in a launching pad. However, the lineup needs more balance surrounding the core. Williams needs to address it. This has never made much sense to me, with the White Sox or any other team in a small ballpark. If the park is small, doesn't it make just as much sense to build a team with, along with a few thumpers, some speed and line-drive guys. I mean, if it's really a small park, won't they hit their fair share of home runs with that approach anyway -- AND ALSO have the diversity to be a good team on the road? -
QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...-ssep25.article I don't understand two things what OC does here. He says: "There are guys that want to be clowns...". He contributes to all of that. What do you call all of his crazy handshakes during the games? Don't get me wrong, I think they're hilarious, but he shouldn't be talking about joking around during games when he participates in it. I also don't understand why he decides to make these comments now. Does he think this will help them in their game tonight? Does he think it will help them if they actually make the playoffs? What do you all think about this? I'm not a big Cabrera fan (I think his fundamental abilities, including defense, were greatly oversold), but Cowley isn't credible on this. He's clearly upset because Cabrera doesn't talk to him after the games -- typical writer move -- this guy doesn't talk to us in the press, so he's a bad guy.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) f*** that...he walks first batter, and then on 2 pitches, there's 3 outs. Alexei really sucks now. Tired and pull-happy. Basically, he's imitating the much older Jermaine Dye. -

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) It's a no win situation. Dotel gets used in the 5th. Who are the Sox pitching right now? Horacio in a 1 one run ballgame? It's just a terrible situation all around. No team with Horacio Ramirez logging serious innings should expect to make 5th place. -
