  1. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) Man Adam Russell isn't that bad at all. He reminds me of a young Adam Russell.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) That'd kill his batting average. Walks. He'd ask for the other plate appearances to be walks.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) OC has 4 extra base hits in his last 30 games. That's not going to make him money on the market! Maybe he can call up to the booth and get 11 singles changed to 4 doubles and a triple.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:22 PM) Idiot of the night award to Juan Uribe. Dear sir, I must disagree. That reward has been retired by our starting pitcher.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:19 PM) AJ's catching today. If that doesn't do it... Maybe we need someone to insult him in spanish. I thought that was Ozzie's department.
  6. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) His stuff isn't overrated. He has electric stuff. He's just a mental midget. Honestly, he could have given up around 13 runs tonight, but he keeps striking guys out with 2 outs to end a chance for a huge inning. He's only good when he pitches pissed. When he pitches relaxed, he blows. Then we should get Don Rickles to be our catcher. He can go out to the mound and insult Javy so that he gets real mad and stuff. This is the new plan to make Javy an excellent pitcher.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) His stuff is so overrated. Exactly. If you can't CONSISTENTLY execute your pitches, you don't really have good stuff. Like, hanging sliders are sliders that don't slide.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) 4, 5, 5, 4, 5, 3, 6, 3, 6, 2, 5 in his last 11 starts for Vazquez What -- no 8's? He's fine.
  9. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) Vaz is quickly approaching the 5 ERA point. 15 million dollars for that. He seems to break every streak we ever have. Ridiculous.
  10. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) Fixed I almost went with that, actually.
  11. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) Way to give it right back Javy. Seriously, if we had any other option, I'd put his ass in the bullpen for a month.
  12. If I were scouting the Sox, I'd conclude two things to a moral certainty: (1) Guillen will run Ramirez and Cabrera from first base with 2 outs. (2) Bobby Jenks will, when ahead 0-2, throw a curve ball.
  13. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 07:57 PM) The Cy Youngification of Minor is happening by Hawk. Many caps tipped, many times.
  14. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) So Ken Griffey Jr. showed up for the first game and drove in some runs. Then settled in and decided to suck offensively. Anytime your HOF self can manage to put some good contact on the ball great. Well, I see that he's decided to fit in with the guys by not being able to hit a changeup.
  15. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) makes you wonder what he'd be like in a playoff game Totally swell.
  16. Had dinner and drinks with him once -- just a totally down-to-earth, nice guy -- interesting and interested.
  17. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) anything less than 3 runs in the bottom of the 14th would severely hurt our pitching staff for about a week Weird deal. Logan, Carrasco and Dotel were outstanding. So was Thornton, until he was left in to die by the manager who was managing for the 19th inning. I just hope that Matt's confidence is back and that the long outing doesn't mess him up too much going forward. He looked great.
  18. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) thornton should've been pulled after facing lefty granderson, I was sitting here saying that even before the hr Same. And goddamn the station-to-station bulls*** in the top of the inning. Pinch-run the guy who's here to do that for the 80-year old centerfielder. Goddamnit.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:39 PM) I hate you Joey Cora. Absolutely despicable that Thornton was left in this long. Flat-out idiotic.
  20. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) Kenny's big flaw is going after guys who can't play center field and saying they'll play center, even after their prime. Jr's bat is a nice addition, but his defense is center is fugly. Slight modification, though I don't disagree with your original sentiment. Here's my list of Williams acquisitions who could allegedly, when acquired, play center: Everett (2003 version) Podsednik (considered before Rowand) Mackowiak Swisher Griffey Hmm.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) It's really a shame. They should be 4 games up on the cubs. Who would you like to see replace Yost? Great question, and I'm not sure I have an answer. It's funny, but one guy that I think could actually get them going is Phil Garner. But he was there for so long before, and with such mediocre results (though with different talent), I'm not sure he'd be welcomed. I'd say they need either a calming, elder statesman type (Jim Fregosi, or is he too old?) or a true feisty guy, like Garner or even Bobby Valentine (next year, I guess). Yost, I think, is the worst of all worlds -- wound too tight but not really a credible motivator either.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) Brewers just don't want it. And just like last year, they're coming unglued. Tonight, Parra and Fielder got into a shoving match in the dugout. I tell you, Yost has got to go. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280804117
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) Reed Johnson has been a godsend for the Cubs. He's batting about .340 against LHP. Time to give Hawk a shoutout -- he's been talking up Johnson for years. If the Pirates have any sack, the next time they play, he'll be knocked on his ass for holding his arm up around the bases. More bush league, Cub bulls***.
  24. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Uribe looked solid in that atbat He looked like he really cared.
