  1. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:44 PM) Or someone can just tell Hawk that Gomez currently sucks. "I mean, D.J., you're talking about a guy who might be -- no, probably already is -- a Hall . . . of . . . Fame player."
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) Now I really hate Dotel. Hey, toss a little hate Ozzie and Cooper's way, too. Everyone on this board knows that, with Dotel, you know after 1 or 2 hitters.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:48 PM) Now I really hate Dotel. Hope Linebrink's mysterious, undefined injury is healing well.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) Dotel screws the pooch tonight. Seems he either implodes big time or dominates. No gray area. And Ozzie and Don Cooper appear to be the last 2 people on Earth who don't know this. Goddamnit, as soon as he gave up the first 2 rockets, that should've been it. When he's bad, he's bad. Got it, geniuses?
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) It doesn't seem like he picks the ball up off the bat very well. Even on routine fly balls, it seems like he has to circle the wagons. That's what I see, too, which tells me maybe he IS better in right -- used to the path of the ball that way.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) Our outfield really is awful defensively. Even an extremely slow catcher scores on a gapper. I can't tell you how disappointed I've been in Quentin in the field. Could be he's actually better in right, but I had heard he was plus defensively. Not so much. Unbelievable hitter right now, but the D has been a bit suspect.
  7. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) Pins and needles? That team is going to waltz into the playoffs. If they are smart they stopped caring about this loss as soon as it ended. That's my point. If you're Cotts, why have a fit in the dugout? If you're Kasper, why do you need to continually reassure people how great the pitchers have been? And, finally, why were the Cubs being booed during the Nats' big inning? Makes you wonder.
  8. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) 2 straight pitch-outs??? WTF! Given how generally predictable Ozzie's been with running this year, I wouldn't imagine that another part of strategy, our signs, are all that hard to steal, with a little scouting.
  9. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) i used to not mind kasper and brenely...and in general i still like brenely...but i have soured on len kasper as a broadcaster so much....god he is so annoying...his voice squeeks more than 13 year old in puberty Kasper now reminding viewers, every 3 minutes, how great the Cub pitching is this year -- and that "stopper" Ryan Dempster pitches tomorrow. You just get the feeling that everyone is, like, on pins and needles over there. Nice outing by Gaudin. And they're just leaving him in there to die.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) I'd say one big difference is the scale of the numbers each of the 2 had put up before being traded. Ramirez had nearly 2000 at bats as a Pirate before being traded, and had already put together a full season with an OPS of nearly 900. Ramirez was tanking it that year -- seriously bad attitude before the trade. This is the reason I've always called him "The Baseball Vince Carter."
  11. Could Len Kasper possibly stroke the Cubs and their fans more? Reed Johnson tries to bunt for a single, and he's "unselfish." He hits a 1-1 pitch for a bouncing double, and he's had a "quality at-bat." Oh, and even though 1/3 of the seats appear to now be empty, "not many people have left the ballpark."
  12. Another fake Cub dive catch, this one by Theriot. I thought only DeRosa did that.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) Neal Cotts vs. water coolers Did he beat up on them? Jeez. It's an August game with a 5.5 game lead, when the Cubs have been on a big winning streak. That team is wired a bit tight, no? Anyone remember Ted Lilly last October in Arizona? At least, Cotts didn't do his business on the mound, like that 3rd grader Lilly.
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) I cannot stand this damn team. Drive me nuts. Should have walked Suzuki to set up the double play, so there is a tactical mistake by Ozzie. This game seems to sum up the way this division race will play out. We should win, we have the lead at times, we give it away in the end. Just can't win in Oakland. Ozzie had his head up his ass for the last 3 innings. Goddamit.
  15. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:43 PM) uh, we already used him ballgame. Yeah, I'm aware we used him. It was, you know, a reference to his s***ty performance that put us into this mess.
  16. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:38 PM) wish we had someone in our pen that could strike someone out, now that a runner is at 3rd base Octavio Dotel says hi.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) Terrible, simply terrible baseball tonight. I love when we talk about building teams that are good at fundamentals, and keep signing and trading for guys who need to use the Fundamentals deck in left field at the Cell.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:24 PM) We have about as dumb a team as there is in baseball. That has to be the explination, because we turn more easy wins into close wins and close wins into losses than any team I've seen this season. You were saying?
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:24 PM) We have about as dumb a team as there is in baseball. That has to be the explination, because we turn more easy wins into close wins and close wins into losses than any team I've seen this season. You were saying?
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:14 PM) According to McDowell, Anderson turned to look for the ball (when he heard the crowd noise), hesitated rounding 2nd base and didn't look for Cox. Both seemed to blame Anderson's baseball instincts more than Cox's decision-making. Cox was right to send him. But if he's the baserunning coach, he's not very good. Anderson looked back tonight. Ramirez has looked back about half a dozen times that I've seen. They're not supposed to do that. Maybe they don't trust him.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 15, 2008 -> 11:10 PM) I still laugh at hearing Hawk say that Owens got his groin to get better. He referred to it there as "a groin situation." Sounds like a matter of national security.
  22. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 05:18 AM) Washburn isn't coming here. Link It sounds like Washburn isnt the guy, but KW is still looking for a guy. The fact that they haven't named a started for Thursday makes me believe they will make a deal. I wonder if Byrd is the guy they are going after? He had a poor first half, but in the second half he is 4-0 with a 1.24 ERA. Kenny's comments are kinda bulls***. He talks a good game about guys being fit for the Cell, but then brings in Floyd, who's no better a fit than Brandon McCarthy, who was supposedly sent out by Kenny because he didn't fit the ballpark. I like Floyd, by the way, but I'm referring more to Kenny's stated rationale. Same thing with Vazquez and Garland -- of those 2 guys, the one who has the repertoire better suited to the Cell is Garland. Javy throws meatball sliders that he cannot get down in the zone; Garland has a power sinker. But Vazquez gets extended and Garland is sent out. So I don't buy that ballpark bulls*** at all.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) I just hope the team doesn't have the same defeated attitude that you people have. I don't think anyone has a defeated attitude. But I do think, when you watch our guys, they seem like they're expecting bad things and they're not being particularly aggressive or confident. Tight.
  24. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) Thornton's release point = HE GAWN lol He looks tired.
