  1. QUOTE (Tony @ May 23, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) I read he was born in Manchester, correct? Yeah he was a 22 year old Brit, with Libyan immigrant parents.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2017 -> 06:32 AM) Who knew, Millennials actually were saving more (travel/eating out/fitness clubs), but not for marriage/children/houses/retirement https://finance.yahoo.com/news/millennials-...-195619131.html But while millennials may be eschewing more traditional financial goals, they’re still focusing on building their savings. This age group, which includes people 18 to 34, is saving more money than any other generation; on average, millennials save 19% of their annual paychecks, compared with 14% for baby boomers and Gen Xers. More than a third (36%) of millennials say they save more than 20% of their paychecks each year. So where does that money go to if it’s not being funneled into retirement accounts? According to the Merrill report, 81% of millennials spend their money on traveling. Eating out and exercising are the two other activities millennials listed before they’d save for retirement. These spending habits point to a shift in the way millennials use their money for personal fulfillment, compared to older generations. Maybe I'm missing something, but how does it count as *saving* money if they're *spending* it on vacations and eating out?
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) In his statement on the Manchester incident, Trump says he refuses to call the terrorists monsters because that's what they want, instead he will call them losers, because losers in life is what they are. I get what he's going for so I won't fault him completely, but calling somebody a "loser" seems like such a Trump-ism. I could see that as part of a SNL sketch even before this. It's definitely a Trumpism, but I don't mind it.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2017 -> 12:55 AM) So it is official policy to want to help "deliver people" from the lifestyle. You might not want to call it conversion therapy but it's something in terms of trying to get you to quit the lifestyle. Being gay is a sexual orientation, not a lifestyle. Expecting a gay person to never engage in same-sex dating, relationships, or sex is unreasonable. Expecting a gay person to magically become straight by drilling it into them that they are evil is much worse.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 18, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) No, they came up with one, and then Flynn vetoed it because he was literally a foreign agent working on behalf of Turkey. The plan Flynn canceled was an Obama administration holdover. It wasn't the thing Mattis/generals came up with.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) What would be funny would be what Trump would be tweeting if he lost the election and this stuff was going on with Hillary. I'm pretty sure he would have a different view. He still wouldn't know what he is doing but IMO, hitching his horse to Bannon is the reason he is in deep s***. I think it has exposed Trump even more. The guy knows nothing about issues, the only things he will read is about himself, and apparently he is easily manipulated. Just keep praising him, you'll eventually get what you want. I'm still waiting for him to easily destroy ISIS. What ever happened to his secret plan? The secret plan was to ask the generals to make a plan. They did, and it's been sitting on his desk for months.
  7. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 17, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) The problem is "can't do the job" is not an impeachable offense. It is. The "high crimes and misdemeanors" phrase includes basically anything including incompetence or abuse of power. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 17, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) Nor is that a standard we want to start holding Presidents too (candidates yes, but not after they've been sworn in). If that's the case, every 4 years, regardless of party affiliation, we'll have calls for impeachment. They can't go after Trump for looking un-presidential. In a lot of ways that's why he got elected. People wanted something new/different in Washington, and they certainly got it. We're well beyond looking un-presidential. Even if he were a good person, he doesn't have the mental faculties to do the job. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 17, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) And the Comey firing, the intelligence leak...those are in a grey area of legality. So although stupid, unprofessional, unethical, etc. I think you'd be hard pressed to find judges, let alone congressman, willing to call it illegal and impeachable. But hey, it's not 5pm yet, let's see what happens today! Between the Comey memo, the Comey firing, and the public threat to Comey, there's a good case for obstruction of justice. But again, a crime isn't necessary for impeachment.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 16, 2017 -> 05:41 PM) Israel Was Source of Secret Intelligence That Trump Gave to Russians, Officials Say https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/05/16/world...=0&referer= I'm sure they appreciate their intel being given to Russia, who will certainly give it to Iran, Israel's BFF.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 16, 2017 -> 02:10 PM) Republicans, last night: If Trump did this thing, it is very troubling! NatSec, Sos: Let us make a very carefully worded statement that sort of implies Trump didn't do 'a' thing but not necessarily 'this' thing Rightwing Media: AHA! More FAKE NEWS! Real story is Susan Rice and Clinton EMAILS! Trump: I did the thing bigly! Republicans, RWM today: Actually it's very good that Trump did the thing! I'm not even talking about that. There are a bunch of people on Facebook who didn't even notice that Trump defending it this morning so they're still saying it never happened, right next to the people who say it was good.
  10. Lol, the story is shifting too fast for Trump supporters to keep up and now they're all contradicting one another
  11. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ May 12, 2017 -> 09:41 PM) Isn't this the type of thing that should be very unpopular with Libertarians? Probably too much to hope for any level of bipartisan pushback... In 2017, this is very unpopular with most people.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 07:10 PM) I can't accept all these things you say here as fact. Which ones are you objecting to?!?
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) but as of right now, no way is he human garbage. I wonder what Trump would have to do to make you change your mind. He's a racist and misogynist. He's corrupt. He's dishonest. He's a thief. He's a conman. He cheats on his wives. He bragged about sexual assault and has a dozen sexual assault allegations against him. He's supports torture and killing civilians. This is a quality human being?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2017 -> 07:36 PM) Understanding how to read and work people isn't an easy trait. No, it's not. Though many people who do have that ability have too much integrity and shame to take advantage of people like that.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) You want me to address things but many of the things you say I disagree with and they are not facts. How the hell can i take you seriously and address your assertions about Trump such as "he speakes and writes at a child-like level" when you say he did horrendously in the debates with Clinton. You want me to address things that are YOUR perceptions. The child-like speech isn't merely a perception. People have analyzed him with the Flesch–Kincaid readability test and found that he's usually around the 3rd-4th grade level. Most politicians speak around a middle-school level. That's an objective measure. He talks in a bizarrely simple way. Everything is great/tremendous or horrible/a disaster. He frequently references "things" and "stuff". What did he say during the debates that made him look intelligent, in your opinion?
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) I like to call him a "rich one percenter." That pretty much describes him. It's not my fault we elected a rich one-percenter. Mitt Romney was also a rich one-percenter and he has hardly any of the massive character flaws that Donald Trump has.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) If he's such a bad bet why is he still rich beyond belief? He inherited a real estate empire and tens of millions of dollars. He frequently rips off contractors, clients, and customers. He's a great (and shameless) self-promoter and brand builder. He's excellent at fooling people. If it's such a great businessman, why won't banks lend to him? QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) Destroyed in the debates? Are you serious? The man defeated Hillary who was horrid in the debates. He did horrendously in the debates with Clinton. I'd like you to address these things: - He frequently displays his ignorance of the basics of how government works and likewise makes huge errors with regards to history, science, and economics. - He speaks, and writes, at a child-like level. - His political views constantly flip-flop due because he is too intellectually lazy to think about, and develop, any principles. - He lacks critical thinking skills, which leads him to believe in pseudoscience and conspiracy theories. - His responses in interviews are largely incoherent streams of thought with little direction.
  18. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 12, 2017 -> 06:05 PM) I thought all meetings in the oval are recorded? The reports keep saying that the conversations were when Trump and Comey had dinner, but none specify where they ate, so I have no idea.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2017 -> 06:02 PM) Does fooling almost half of the country into voting for you count as smart? I'd call him one of the best con artists ever. He's a fantastic snake oil salesman. I wouldn't regard that as intelligence, at least a form that's relevant to being President.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) 1.) I don't have time to look up ALL the business deals he concocted through his life to get where he is. His intelligence of his chosen field (business, hotels, whatever you want to call it is impeccable). It's impeccable? He has a long string of failures and American banks won't even loan him money because he's such a bad bet. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) 2.) He obviously studied world affairs enough to be elected president. s***, most Americans don't even know the map of the world. He obviously is in the top 5 percent book smart people in the world on the map and international affairs. yes he obviously is book smart in terms of history, education. That makes him smart as well. I have no confidence that Trump could outperform a random high school student on a test of geography or foreign affairs. He's become infamous for his ignorance of history (http://www.politico.com/story/2017/03/donald-trump-history-facts-236659), yet you think he's knowledgeable? QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) 3.) He can think on his feet. He won the presidency after a SERIES of debates. So yes he's very smart in the realm of debate. He has knowledge and is able to express the knowledge in a debate format. He is thus intelligent, yes he is. Trump was destroyed in all 3 debates with Hillary Clinton. His knowledge of the issues is superficial, his tactics boil down to aggressively attacking his opponent and changing the topic. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) 4.) How can you say he's not intelligent? For one second assume my point could be correct. Look at all of his controversies and tell me they are not sparked by his EGO?? Just tell me that. He frequently displays his ignorance of the basics of how government works and likewise makes huge errors with regards to history, science, and economics. He speaks, and writes, at a child-like level. His political views constantly flip-flop due because he is too intellectually lazy to think about, and develop, any principles. He lacks critical thinking skills, which leads him to believe in pseudoscience and conspiracy theories. His responses in interviews are largely incoherent streams of thought with little direction. He's dumb, Greg.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 06:31 PM) You think somebody stupid can amass all the power he's amassed and all the wealth he's amassed and survived all the debates and got elected president? Yes, plenty of people are wealthy or powerful without being intelligent. They may possess other skills which allow them to get ahead, or be lucky, or be crooked. Or all 3. Now stop avoiding the question. What has Trump done to make you think he's intelligent?
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 12, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) I don't think your statement "he really is not a bright man" is true. Oh, he's bright enough. There are countless examples of him doing and saying extraordinarily stupid things. What examples are there of him being intelligent?
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 12, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) They showed a picture. I thought I saw Jordan on the champs team, I couldnt remember him winning. He won with Sarah on the season where Bananas super-cried about being backstabbed
  24. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ May 10, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) Let's All Celebrate These College Graduates Raining Boos Upon Betsy DeVos It's the little things. The person who arranged for her to speak HAD to know this would happen.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 10, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) I'm still blown away that the White House legitimately thought there'd be no blow back from this. They have no idea what they're doing. Imagine how poorly they're going to handle an actual crisis. https://mobile.twitter.com/maggieNYT/status...094642963243008 To be fair, among the dimwitted Americans who support Trump, that's true. They're all buying the "bbbbbut the Democrats wanted him gone" line.
