QUOTE(Reddy @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) i always wish anderson were playing. why does quentin get the nod over him? Because Quentin is better.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) I think Kanny is going to be pretty bad this year. But W-S looks good. B-Ham might be fun to watch. Why do you think Kanny will be bad? It's made up of most of the guys from last year's very good Great Falls team, with a few of the best players from Bristol. They've got some live arms and their lineup looks pretty solid to me. Also, Juan Moreno doesn't show up on the Kanny roster yet, but I'm pretty sure he's there. If he is, and he pitches anywhere close to what he did last year, that staff has a chance to be pretty good. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=467151

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 12:18 AM) all robertson has ever lacked is some run support. I have him down for a breakout season. But let's delay it by one game! All he's lacked is run support? He has a 4.60 career ERA. Unless he brings that down, he's going to need alot of run support.

I wouldn't be surprised if Leroy Hunt turns out to be this year's 'surprise' player (like DLS) in our system. After a rough start last year, something clicked in. The last month of the season, he was great. If he picks up where he left off... people will be talking about him pretty soon.
-
QUOTE(Markbilliards @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) White Sox MiLB will be harder to follow this year without Gio and DLS. I hope 2 or 3 guys step up big time this year and show themselves as prospects worthy of our excitement. I hope Lucas is one of them. Keep in mind that last year at this time, nobody had a clue who DLS was.

Bottom of the 9th. Greenville batting with the bases loaded... 2 outs... and Kannapolis holding on to a 1 run lead. Wander Perez called in to pitch to put out the threat. Strike out. Save. Kanny wins 3-2. Sounds like a fun opening night. http://www.intimidatorsbaseball.com/clubho...kanafx_capafx_1

Lucas Harrell with a one-hitter through 4 innings. Update... 5 innings.

Posted it because I thought the lineup was interesting. Bourgeois in left? Player 1. Bourgeois LF 2. Rouse SS 3. Fields 3B 4. Eldred RF 5. Huffman, R 1B 6. Collaro, T DH 7. Wise CF 8. Phillips C 9. Getz 2B Haeger P FYI - As of this post, Fields has batted 3 times... and struck out 3 times.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 06:04 PM) there are a few on this squad to get excited about though... Aaron Poreda, P Francisco Hernandez, C Sergio Miranda, SS C.J. Retherford, 3B John Shelby, 2B Salvador Sanchez, OF I see some significant MLB potential among those folks, to varying degrees. Absolutely. These are players that are likely to start hitting fans radar screens this year. I'd keep an eye on Brandon Allen too. He's still young and he took big developmental steps last year. Last year, Great Falls and Kannapolis (in that order) were my favorite teams in the system. This year, I'm guessing it will be Winston-Salem 1st, and then Kanny 2nd.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 01:02 AM) It's really hard to get interested in the Sox minor league system this year. I'm excited about the Sox minor league system this year. I think there is alot more depth and balance than there was in 2007. Winston-Salem and Kannapolis have good young talent and should be very interesting to watch. Ditto Birmingham's pitching staff... and the Barons should have a much improved offense this year. IMO, the Sox farm system is weaker than average at the upper (AA and AAA) levels because of trades, but not nearly as bad as some of the so-called 'experts' in the media suggest.

QUOTE(JPN366 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) I think Javier Colina will start at third base. Just a hunch. You don't have a 29 year old at high A ball to ride the bench. Nah. Not after the season Retherford had last year. They're not jumping him a level to sit him. I think Colina is just insurance against Retherford's adjustment to better pitching hitting a speed bump.

QUOTE(Jordan4life @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Will happily eat my crow regarding John Danks. I didn't think he had a chance in hell to hold the Tribe down. I didn't see the game today. How did the new cutter look? The cutter was very good. Probably the best thing about it... now he has offspeed pitches he can throw with command to both sides of the plate... keeping hitters off-balance. So the cutter makes his other pitches much more effective too.

I was impressed with the movement Linebrink had on his pitches. He had Grady fishing for his split-finger pitch... completely fooled... it was dropping off a table. I'm not used to guys, other than Jenks, coming out of our pen and making other teams' best hitters look bad. If he has good command of that pitch over the course of the year, he will turn out to be an extremely valuable addition to our bullpen.

QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) Sounds about right. I still don't understand why Dye is still on this team, or why we gave him that extension. An OF of Swisher-BA-Quentin would be much better, both offensively and defensively. What??? I'd like to see Quentin and Brian actually prove they can hit major league pitching before taking a gimmee 30 homeruns and 90 RBIs out of the lineup.
-
Come on Bobby. Don't make this exciting. No need for extra drama today.
-
Wouldn't it be nice if Uribe could have his annual one good month in April this year?
-
The Tribe with a sacrifice bunt? Isn't that against their religion? I didn't think the Church of Sabermetrics allowed voluntarily giving up outs.

Casey 'freakin' Blake

QUOTE(kjshoe04 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 12:09 PM) I think it is because he probably isn't our best option at third base right now. Plus he's looked absolutely terrible in most of his AB's. Has everybody simply forgot the epic rate at which Fields was striking out last year? It was Dave Kingman-like.
-
When Danks gets tired, he starts to make mistakes up in the zone. Can't afford that against the Tribe.

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) Hey dude, I liked Seaver myself...that's why I used him. No need to defend him to me, I loved watching him pitch myself. The guy was an absolute machine, wasn't he? A career ERA under 3.00. That's unbelievable in any era.
-
QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) i think he was being sarcastic. I figured. But Seaver is probably my all-time favorite pitcher. I felt the need to defend his honor.
-
QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) Westbrook = Seaver No. Westbrook = Garland. Seaver was in an entirely different league. Seaver was more like Pedro Martinez in his prime. Westbrook will never play in that stratosphere.

QUOTE(shipps @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 10:40 AM) BA is still on the sh** list and thats really a shame. Why? Because they want to play Quentin today and don't want to take Swisher out of the lineup? That adds up to proof that BA is on a sh*tlist? Come on. If he was really on the Sox sh*tlist, he wouldn't have been invited to spring training much less come north with the team.

It's up on Yahoo Sports. The only changes I see... Swisher in CF; Quentin in LF; Q batting where Alexi did in the order. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore;_ylt=...4?gid=280403105
