  1. Columbus at Charlotte - Lance Broadway with the start Birmingham @ Chattanooga - Cassel starts for the Barons Salem @ Winston-Salem - Rasner starting for W-S Hickory @ Kannapolis - Socolovich starting for Kanny
  2. Another great outing for Anthony Carter in Kannapolis. 6 innings; 7 strikeouts; 0 walks; gave up one run on 4-hits. Kanny up 3-1 in the 8th. Logan Johnson continues to be red hot. 2 for 3 so far tonight. Batting .444 since he's been starting.
  3. QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Apr 10, 2008 -> 07:03 PM) Poreda gave up like 4 runs in 2 innings... but then the game was called due to Rain. Life is full of second 1st chances. He started a game against Kinston and had trouble getting the ball over the plate. In the 3rd inning, Kinston was up 3-0 and had the bases loaded with nobody out... and the power went out. They ended up suspending the game until the next day. So... yes, Poreda has had a start this year already... and wasn't impressive. Let's hope he's looks better tonight.
  4. I'd leave Swisher right where he is. His skills are: - Working pitchers deep into counts... - Getting on base... NOT driving people in. For example: Swisher's career average BA RISP = .220. (Sizemore = .279 career BA RISP) Leave Swisher in a position to do what he does best... get on... and set up the middle of the order.
  5. Where's the guy who was wondering why Quentin was starting over Anderson? 7 RBI's in 4 games.
  6. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) Anyone know how the Sox got this Socolovich guy? Yep, one of the two players we got from Boston for Aardsma. Willy Mota is the other.
  7. Saw that Brett Tomko is in the starting rotation for Kansas City. That ought to make for a nice reunion with AJ when we play them. I wonder what the over/under would be on pitches before AJ gets nailed? One, maybe?
  8. QUOTE(SoIL @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 02:26 AM) Didn't Jimmy Piersall lose his job after some White Sox wives complained about their seats and he made an on air statement saying something like, "What are they complaining about, they're just a bunch of horny broads. That's why they married athletes in the first place." LOL. I think you're right. I remember he said something off-color but I couldn't recall what it was.
  9. QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) As well as Dotel. Besides one bad pitch...he's been pretty lights out as well. Nice combo to have. I'd still like to see them send MMac down though and bring up Wasserman. Wasserman closed the Charlotte game tonight for a save. Pitched one inning... struck out two batters. No walks. No hits. Threw 10 pitches. 8 for strikes. Nice outing.
  10. Kanny won their game 6-2. Great outing by Anthony Carter. 6 innings; 3 hits; 2 runs; 7 strikeouts; 2 walks.
  11. Charlotte @ Columbus: Lance Broadway getting the start. (Has a nice outing going. 1-hit shutout after 5 innings.) Tennessee @ Birmingham (double-header): Kyle McCulloch pitching game 1. Winston-Salem @ Kinston: supposed to be a double-header, including a continuation of last night's suspended game. Looks like they'll be rained out tonight. Kannapolis @ Greenville (double-header) in progress: Anthony Carter pitching in game 1 for Kanny.
  12. Makes sense. We needed someone who could actually play in the outfield. After seeing our outfield opening night... Bourgeois in left, Dewayne Wise in center, Brad Eldred in right... it seemed obvious we'd have to pick somebody up.
  13. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) Now if we can just trade Crede for a bag of balls and get Fields' bat into the lineup it will be all good. I'm about sick of Profundo's 0-4 2K lines as well. Richar and Fields playing everyday would make me very happy. Get well soon Richar. BTW - Fields struck out 6 times in 8 at-bats in Charlotte's first two games.
  14. He has struck out 6 times in 8 at-bats so far.
  15. Charlotte winning 8-3 in the 9th despite 15 strikeouts by Columbus pitching. 3 by Bourgeois, 3 by Fields, and 3 by Eldred, make up the bulk of them.
  16. QUOTE(JPN366 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) Winston-Salem will play a double header tomorrow too. How do they handle a 'suspended by power outage' game like today? Continue where they left off, in the 3rd inning with us down 3-0 and Kinston with the bases loaded, or start over? Pretty hard to pick up where they left off I would think because they'd have to bring in different pitchers. It would help us out a great deal, obviously, if they start over.
  17. Harry Caray and Jimmy Piersall working together... alot of personality to try and fit in one booth. Those were interesting broadcasts.
  18. Yep. Just saw that Birmingham got postponed too. Hmmm... I was listening on Internet radio about 1/2 hour ago and they thought they'd get it in.
  19. The storms blew by in Birmingham and it looks like they're going to start soon (around 8pm). There was a power outage in the 3rd inning of the Winston-Salem game and it ended up getting suspended. LOL. I love minor league games. Good thing though. Poreda was in trouble. W-S was losing 3-0 and Poreda was facing a bases loaded situation when the power went out. Not a great game for Aaron who seemed like he was struggling. I wonder how they'll work it out to complete the game or whether they'll scratch it.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 06:57 PM) I loved the LF - Quentin, CF - Swisher lineup. Ditto. And I hope they leave it that way. Owens doesn't bring enough to the table offensively or defensively to justify changing it.
  21. QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) Sox were on Channel 32...WFLD if I remember correctly. I was born in '58, and I can remember very clearly watching the Sox on Channel 32... Anyone remember the guys dressed like Pirates singing the "WFLD" song? LOL. And since it was UHF, I had to adjust the 'other' antennae on the TV to watch the games. But I can't remember the beer. Maybe if I drink one right now, it will kick my 'beer memory' back in. Yeah, I think I'll try that.
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) Nick Punto and Brandon Inge aren't mediocre defensively, but they ride the pine because they are average. Note sure how you can make that comparison. Inge doesn't ride the pine because he is average. He rides it because he can't beat out Miguel Cabrera. Punto rides it because he can't beat out Mike Lamb. Big difference. Inge is a good player, slotted behind an all-star. Punto just sucks.
  23. AJ on a pace to drive in 230 runs this year!!
  24. QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Linebrink throws a hell of alot harder than I thought. That was my impression when I saw him this spring too. And his splitter is a NASTY pitch.
  25. Every time I look at the chin beards our guys are growing, ZZ Top music starts running through my head.
