  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) What is the behind-the-scenes thinking on Viciedo at this point? With Josh Fields seemingly holding his own offensively and defensively, do you look to trade Dye somehow and stick Viciedo in LF or RF to get his bat into the line-up this season...or do you play out the string with Thome/Konerko/Dye together for one final season? Would any GM dare trade a young pitcher like Homer Bailey at this point in time for Dye (even with a cash subsidy)? I'd be willing to bet that Viciedo starts the season in AA. And then if he does well there, he'd get promoted to AAA. Why? (1) Puts less pressure on him offensively and let's him work on his defense. (2) Spanish speaking manager for the Barons this year. If he does really well and/or the Sox create an opening via trades, Viciedo could end up in Chicago this year. But I just don't see him making the ballclub to start the season. Doesn't make sense from a roster management perspective. Of course, I'd love to see him hit .400 for the rest of spring training and make the final roster decisions really difficult.
  2. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 05:46 AM) lillibridge can play CF, SS, 2B, getz can only play 2B, owens can only "play" CF Not sure where the idea came from that Lillibridge can play multiple positions and Getz can't. Getz has played 2B, SS, 3B and OF in the minors. Lillibridge hasn't played any position other than SS in the minors... and he hasn't played OF since he was a sophomore in college over 5 years ago.
  3. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) Thanks. I have never seen the presspass before...lots of great info on that page. During the regular season, they're even better. They give info on matchups, streaks, etc. Good stuff.
  4. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:39 PM) Was their anyone besides Link and Poreda? mlb.com game notes
  5. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) so much for poreda pitching? or will he close the game out? Wasserman was scheduled to follow JVB. Poreda follows Wasserman... supposedly. Actually, I'm wrong... The order was listed as: Danks JVB Poreda Wasserman Nunez Link Harrell German So... who knows? By going with JVB for so long they'll have to skip several of the others.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:18 PM) Is there any reason that Nix came out of the game so far early? He played 1/2 the game. Getz gets the 2nd half.
  7. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) I really like Getz's bat and his hustle on the basepaths. I wonder why he's not being considered as a lead-off candidate as well, like another poster said a few posts earlier. Getz seems to have the natural hustle for it. By the end of camp, I would guess his name will be in the hat for leadoff. It just makes too much sense not to be considered.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) Poor JVB was doing so well too.... He kept the ball down pretty well. Control wasn't great. But... it was just his first outing of the year.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 09:44 PM) I LOVE Wilson Betemit. LOVE. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to dislike him which is a damn shame. I think the only time people are really going to dislike him is when he bats right-handed. Left-handed? Very likable.
  10. My money is on Owens being injured before the end of S/T.
  11. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) Santeliz is a poor man's K-Rod, just without control. Link is the man, bulldog closer. Another plus about Santeliz. He's typically been one of the youngest players on every team he's played for. So, he's got some room to grow. For example, he was promoted to Birmingham last year at 21 years old. If he has a good first half in Birmingham in 2009, it's possible he could end up in Charlotte at age 22.
  12. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) At least we get to see Flowers take some cuts. One of the more interesting parts of the game tonight should be the pitching. Van Benschoten is scheduled to follow Danks. Then Poreda... Nunez Link and a few others So we'll get to see a few new arms out there.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) no updates in 30 min? Game over. Sox lost 7-2. Box Score
  14. Lillibridge laid down a perfect bunt for a base-hit. And then brain-cramped his way into getting thrown out at first on a 7-3 double play.
  15. Allen with 2 walks in 3 plate appearances so far today? I'll take that. That's a good sign.
  16. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) Anyone know the lineup for tonight's game? Haven't seen it yet, but the scheduled pitchers tonight are: Danks (starting) Van Benschoten Poreda Wasserman Nunez Link Harrell German
  17. Contreras, Colon make progress in Wednesday bullpen sessions for White Sox GLENDALE, Ariz. - Jose Contreras and Bartolo Colon each threw 45 pitches Wednesday morning in their latest stage of rehabilitation. Contreras' location was noticably better than Monday, when he threw off a mound for the first time since tearing his left. Achilles tendon last August. Colon threw with more velocity. Colon had bone chips removed from his right elbow last fall.
  18. White Sox's lineup at Phoenix includes younger Danks PHOENIX, Ariz. - The White Sox sent a well-represented split squad to Phoenix to play Wednesday against Oakland. Wednesday's lineup has a twist, as Jordan Danks, the 6-foot-5 younger brother of Sox left-hander John Danks, will start in center field. Danks, 22, batted .325 (13-for-40) with two home runs and seven RBIs in 10 games with Class-A Kannapolis shortly after singing last August. he batted .303 in 53 at-bats for the Peoria Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League. Here's are Wednesday's lineups: WHITE SOX Lillibridge 2b Ramirez ss Quentin lf Thome dh Viciedo 3b Anderson rf Allen 1b Danks cf Stewart c Broadway p OAKLAND Buck rf Cunningham lf Sweeney cf Chavez dh Powell c Carter 1b Hannahan 3b Cardenas 2b Petit ss Eveland p
  19. It's a girl for White Sox's Buehrle and wife White Sox staff ace Mark Buehrle and wife Jamie became parents Tuesday to a six-pound, seven-ounce girl named Brooklyn Jayden. The baby is the couple's second child. Buehrle is expected to stay with his family in Missouri before rejoining his teammates on Sunday.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) Well, I have only seen a few video clips of him. But I've seen the stats he's put up, and I've seen multiple people who watched him play, rave about him. I personally think that he's simply seen as too old. But to me, he profiles like a late bloomer, and I have a strong feeling he could succeed at the major league level. I'm glad he is still with the club. If he puts up numbers this year in Charlotte like he did in AA and A+ in recent years, I think he should be slotted for a shot if someone like Anderson, Owens and/or Wise flops or gets hurt. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) shouldn't we wait until he stretches his arm out a little/we're sure that perhaps he didn't start working on a pitch exclusively in the innings he got beat up in? ^^^^^^ Richard is working on his changeup. If he throws it with the type of control/command he had in the minors, he'll do fine in the rotation. If not, he probably should throw out of the pen until he gets it working. (He already has good command of his fastball and slider.)
