Watching Jenks go through his little routine, he must have about 15 cans of Red Bull and 10 cups of coffee during the game.

why the double switch. We have 3 runs to work with, I'd rather have the defense

Its pouring on the Near North Side.

I definitely would have pinch run now with the runner on 3rd.

Crede's due for another slam.

Unless he missed the tag, the Sox just got a HUGE break. He missed the tag, good call.

If the Sox were losing I would pinch run. I don't like this move in a tie.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) So, in Ozzie's eyes, is Thornton now the lefty setup man? He seems to get more opportunities in the late innings than Cotts recently. That could just be my perception, though. I still think Cotts is his man. He went to him with the game on the line earlier. Cotts probably would have continued if BA didn't reach. If Thornton continues to pitch like this, it will be a huge shot for the beleaguered bullpen.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) Thome has now struck out 67 times. He's a lock for 160-180 if he remains healthy. He's also a lock for 45-55 homers if he remains healthy.

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) who frank? actually i think that was 2 years ago, when frank did real bad. i dunno, i just remember him pinch hitting against the cubs and struck out all the times i saw him. Frank was taking one for the team at that time. He was playing with a broken foot, trying to stick around until Magglio came back. I rip Frank, but that little period shouldn't count against him.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) I was thinking the same thing. I'm kinda surprised they didn't mention that the Sox had interest in him last year. By now, I thought that was pretty common knowledge. Where would he play? Uribe saves Contreras' streak.

LaMarr Hoyt won 15 straight decisions during 1983-84, and 14 straight from 1981-82. That guy was like a right handed Mark Buerhle, just add 50 lbs. The Sox got him and Oscar Gamble for Bucky Dent, and came very close to having Ron Guidry thrown in that trade. Instead the Yankees threw in what Bill Veeck loved even more, a bunch of cash. Considering Hoyt eventually turned into Ozzie Guillen it was one of Roland Hemond's finest trades.

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) im not saying k's mean nothing, they do. but it depends. like when theres a runner at 3rd with less than two outs, situations like that. I really think we have nothing to complain about with Contreras. All pitchers have games like this. If by chance he loses, he will be 18-2 his last 20 decisions counting playoffs.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) At least AJ came through with RISP once today. Was that when Freel picked up Cora?

It was low, but Contreras has had a few beneficial calls tonight. It all evens out.

The Sox just need to keep this close, and if they are behind give Thome a chance to tie it or give them a lead.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) I'll take the 4-K Contreras that gives up a maximum of 3 runs over the 10+ K Contreras any day. Those last 2 runs were courtesy of a jam job bloop. He's 7-0 and has the longest winning streak in White Sox history. He also has fanned 24 his last 2 starts. I'll take my chances with him anyday.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 17, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) 13 K, but will it matter? How many other 45 year old pitchers establish career highs in strikeouts in back to back starts?
-
White Sox @ Reds
I really love outfielders that play shallow. When you're playing as deep as Pods was, if its over your head, its gone, and those little bloops, this particular one had some hang time on it, drop in and do damage.
-
White Sox @ Reds
Why does Pods play Kearns 3 feet from the warning track?
