  1. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 11:25 AM) I agree but the religion of political correctness seems to have ruined everything, especially the English language. Look at words like retard, it comes from ritard which means to slow. If gay means homo then what are heteros? Miserable? "Retard" is a derogatory word used to refer to mentally handicapped people or as an insult for someone acting stupid. Appeals to dictionary definitions or latin roots doesn't change the common usage of the word.
  2. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 07:36 PM) I stand by my earlier comment that such comments won't be high on my list of concerns for a gay son or a retarded daughter. Remember that whole sticks and stones thing we heard as children? They'll get over a silly comment. What they won't get over so easily is other disadvantages they are sure to face, like where they will work and who they will take care of etc. Derogatory slurs being common-place only propagates the disadvantages and them being seen as "others"
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) Let's be clear...that's not a statement from her, that's one of those "Pledges" from some interest group that she's signed on to, and which someone is probably going to be fired for her having signed on to. Yeah I botched that. Still, she signed it. BTW, just to emphasize how awful this is, it's not just incredibly racist but also completely inaccurate.
  4. Bachmann signs pledge* which includes the benefits of slavery:
  5. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) The government = United States of America.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 09:50 AM) At all? Or enough? I thought the percentage of teens having sex dropped a good amount during the early 00's? Abstinence only is the problem. It's a dumb idea and empirical evidence bears this out. Teenagers are gonna screw--telling them over and over how ineffective condoms and other bc methods are is only going to increase the chances of them having unprotected sex.
  7. The case was f***ed from the start http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/t...a-knox-20110627
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:48 AM) Badger, the evidence at least got her on abusive behavior or whatever that second charge was. The mother did not know or care where her kid was for a month. If I'm on the jury I heard enough to convict her. There are some smart lawyers out there saying they were shocked at the verdict. I don't think it's a slam dunk that you guys are right and I am wrong. Again, I'll give deference to the 12 people who sat there and listened to the testimony every day.
  9. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:26 AM) As for your religious beliefs, good for you. I'm not kidding, I really don't care what you believe. I'll care what you believe the day you try to stop me from believing what I believe. Until then, I believe fully in the freedom of religion and separation of church and state. My Christianity is a driving factor in my life but it shouldn't be a driving force in American government. It's a personal matter.
  10. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 07:42 AM) Her 64 year old father probably feels like the system worked. And as far as an American committing murder in a foreign country; if you are dumb enough to commit such a heinous crime you deserve whatever consequences that are rendered. How about a case like Amanda Knox in Italy where by all appearances she was completely railroaded? Too bad?
  11. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 01:14 AM) All true, for better or worse. A terribly flawed system but that's life. I'd rather err on the side of the defendant than on prosecution.
  12. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) I just think you are being far to generous to that human piece of filth by suggesting she is merely "responsible for the death" of her child. Of f***ing course she is. I wish Florida was not a death penalty state and this had not been tried as a death penalty case. tbh I haven't followed the case much aside from a tidbit here or there over the past several years. I've been more shocked at the national (facebook) outrage and the desire to completely change our judicial system because of this verdict and apparently not understanding what "reasonable doubt" means. Being guilty of something and being guilty of what they charged you with are different things.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) This has to be my favorite site to waste time on. Click the "top posts" for some really funny ones. awesome, ty
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 07:47 PM) Yes but she should have been found guilty on the child endangerment and/or manslaughter. I wouldn't have let her walk. You're not privy to the same information the jurors have, the same legal instruction and the same deliberations. If you'd let one single fact make your vote in order to "punish" her, regardless of the states' ability to actually prove their case, then you'd make a terrible juror. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) No, the prosecution was unable to prove first degree murder. That doesn't mean it wasn't. Not sure why you phrased that as a contradiction of what I said? It complements it perfectly. She was found "not guilty", not "innocent", because the state didn't put on a strong enough case.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) I loved Dennis Miller's take on this on the O'Reilly Website: He said it should be like a football game where a juror can throw up a penalty flag when he's heard enough and just scream, 'guilty.' Miller would have thrown up the flag when it was revealed it was 31 days before she reported her DAUGHTER missing. Yes that was enough there. Miller said 31 minutes would have proven a crime was committed much less 31 days. My reasonable doubt is FINALIZED there if I'm on that f***ing jury. She did something and I don't let her walk. Dennis Miller is an idiot and that's a terrible idea, hope that helps. No cause of death, no motive, hard to prove first degree murder without. It's pretty clear that she f***ed up and is responsible for the death and tried to cover it up. That doesn't make it first degree murder.
  16. fwiw it sounds like the jury was actually pretty sophisticated: http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/07/06/florid....html?hpt=hp_t2
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 7, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) Gotta retain that top talent! Love the holiday weekend news dump http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington...aries-soar.html You're mocking your own meme?
  18. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) This is a big reason I'm conservative. I grew up in a military family, I'm in the military...I heard my parents b**** about those government types all my life and now I'm witnessing it myself. The government is full of morons, and it does nothing to the same standard as the private sector. If you work for the government (and you're not prior military), you're the bottom of the barrel. Quality workers go private; the idiots go public. Just what I've witnessed.
  19. also lol @ treason accusations stop reading RedState for all of your facts

  21. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 02:19 AM) Has anyone offered any proof of racist activities from Tea Partiers or other conservatives? Andrew Breitbart offered to make any of the TP's many accusers a very rich man, but none of those vocal critics have stepped forward with any sort of proof. all of these http://www.google.com/search?q=racist+obam...366&bih=643
