  1. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) I don't think the concern is terrorists breaking out of prison as much as it is terrorists targeting the area because that's where their homies are being detained. But that's a ridiculous concern. They're not looking to pull off operations in some po-dunk town in Illinois. Not enough funding to operate it. There was a prison out west (Montana?) that tried to do the same thing--get the Gitmo detainees because it was a big, expensive empty prison.
  2. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 06:09 PM) Gaga definitely looks better with brunette hair. She dyed it though when a reporter mistook her for Amy Winehouse. Regardless, she's a very talented musician. She sucks you in with the weirdness and dance/pop songs, but she's great musically. She's pretty sound at a couple of instruments and is excellent at the piano. Her voice, when she uses it is awesome. Her live shows display her talent quite nicely. the music critic guys on NPR (I think they're from the Tribune and Sun Times) described her shows and videos as actually bringing some amount of performance art into them instead of the typical dance routines.

Up In the Air looks like a more mass-market friendly Lost in Translation, not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Am I way off?

  5. I am glad you recognize the need for some amount of regulation.
  6. Number of Unicorns, per capita. for serious, though, it looks like percent of something since they both start at 100 and go down. What it is a percent of (GNP, DOW, Wages, Jobs) I have no idea.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 08:52 AM) That said, while I'm not as big of a believer in this as many, I do believe we have a contribution to climate change, I just think humans and their infinite egos like to believe our impact is much MUCH greater than it actually is. I also think when the infinite equation was originally written, changing factors such as the life on Earth and it's contributions to these changes were taken into account by mother earth...and promptly dismissed in a "Meh" fashion. Life will go on even if we're the sole cause of GW and do nothing to stop it. It just won't be very conducive to our current modern society. Also, the bolded reminded me of this Modest Mouse song: "The universe works on a math equation that never even ever really ends in the end Infinity spirals out creation We're on the tip of its tongue, and it is saying We aint sure where you stand You aint machines and you aint land And the plants and the animals, they are linked And the plants and the animals eat each other"
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 08:52 AM) That's because the 90's data showed a clear warming trend, I believe it was one of the hottest decades ever on record, but since the 90's ended, the data no longer shows that trend continuing despite emission increasing worldwide, so data in the 00's is counter to the data in the 90's -- thus it's more convenient to ignore it and point to data from 97. The 00's still show the general warming trend. It's just not as high as the spike from the 90's because the 90's, particularly '98, had some anomalous years. Look at GAT from the 50's through now and your trendline will still have a positive slope. edit: If GAT in the 00's is higher than it was in the 50's-80's but a little off the highs of the 90's, its still a long-term warming trend.
  9. Let banks be "too big to fail" and so interwoven that we're forced to choose between global economic meltdown or bailing them out for their ineptitude, what a great idea!
  10. You're linking to a page dated October 2, 1997. How about some more recent data and analysis?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) The sad thing is...everything in their data has been redone, probably a dozen times over. You're just another greedy millionaire scientist in on the massive global conspiracy for grant money. What do you know? QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) With the same 'massaged' data. Plotting decibels on a log10 scale is "massaging" the data. It's like "theory" in common usage meaning guess or hunch being different from theory in scientific terminology. That word does not mean what you think it means.
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) I disagree and say that it is earth shattering by comparrison. Everythgn these people did now needs to be redone, with extra emphasis on everything being done aboveboard and in the open. That means many more years of study, millions more dollars, etc. Basing any decisions of the outcomes of thier data would almost be criminal considering that the data is untrustworthy, at best. They hid data, refused to disclose data, manipulated data to get desired results, ignored data that didnt fit, 'lost' thier base data, and they had an inner circle of devoitees that peer reviewed each other. LOL.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) That is complete nonsense. The weather data is from agencies like NOAA - this school didn't create the data. Stop bringing those facts around here. We all know now that all climate data is from a handful of dishonest liar so-called scientists who faked the entire thing, thus invalidating the entire field of climatology. And that means we can keep pumping billions of tons of emissions into the atmosphere consequence-free.
  14. f*** health insurance companies. They denied my reimbursement claim for my prescription of $330 because it was two 18mg pills. they'll cover one one 36 mg pill, but because its the exact same amount of medication in two pills they denied it. I fully support UHC now.
  15. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) I'm a huge Bears fan, but please stop blaming the refs. Refs are inconsistently bad throughout the league and the Bears are simply not a good team. I don't think anyone is blaming the refs for the Bears performance. They've both been terrible.
  16. lovie should be fired on the spot for this challenge.
  17. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) and ur it's everyone else's fault but cutler gets annoying too look at the play they just broke down again. The receivers simply do not run the right route frequently and that leads to a good percentage of the interceptions. Throw in a few no-call pass interferences and you're near or above 50% of the INT's not being on Cutler.
  18. another bulls*** call. what a horribly officiated game.
  19. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) it's gotta be someone else's fault but cutler a majority of times it has been. there's knox running the wrong route. again.
  20. cutler was getting pressure and threw it to knox. either the ball was underthrown by 10 yards or knox ran the wrong route.
  21. the official can't manage to get a sentence out without screwing it up
  22. what did mannelly get called for? he was on the ground.
  23. hooray, lovie wants to lose another challenge. edit: nevermind, booth review. Hey, a touchdown!.
