The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) Sent: Thu 9/11/2008 6:52 PM To: Kathryn Lopez Subject: I love her feistiness I am not your typical Republican. Pro-life, gun owning lesbian with a partner and we are voting for McCain and we are doing because of Palin. We love her feistiness and understand what it means to have to take on stupid, ignorant comments about who we are. So we hope she stays on offense and never backs down Keep it boys, your doing a bang up job. I'm sorry, but that's just a dumb reason to vote for someone to be President.

Who do you think will win the November election?
I'm thinking McCain is going to carry this momentum through to a close victory. The campaigns are getting nasty, and nobody does nasty politics better than the GOP.

September 11
It definitely still has meaning. I can't watch the videos of the planes without an emotional reaction and a chill down my spine. For whatever reason, the New York Times and the Washington Post did not run a front-page story on it today. The other forum I frequent (automotive) has a decent amount of people from NY. Someone started a "Where were you?" thread, and some of those stories were pretty powerful. People there lost a lot of friends and family, and many witnessed it first hand. Some were even just across the street. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 06:49 PM) My nephew's birthday is on September 11. In 2001 he was pretty young, but old enough to know that his birthday was f***ed up that day. This happened when I was in high school, and one of the girls in my class had her birthday on that day.

Sarah Palin
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) I think there's a lot of manufactured outrage over this interview already. I've seen bits and pieces. What I've seen, she doesn't look particularly good. I don't think she looked egregiously bad either. She didn't threaten war against Russia. She didn't rule it out, either... but it was kind of a wikipedia answer to the situation. I'd agree, except for that bit AHB posted right above you. It didn't seem to be said tongue-in-cheek. It seems like she honestly believes Alaska's geographic proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) Is there still battle ensuing on the ground in Germany that I wasn't aware of? Well, that's the point. If you look at McCain's comment in context, he's referring to having troops stationed in Iraq for a long time, just like we have troops stationed in Germany. It doesn't mean they'll still be fighting there.

Saying "thanks but no thanks" means you don't want it and don't support it. She didn't stop it, either. Congress cut off funding. She is a liar.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) That is appalling. Seriously. Forget about whether or not you approve of hunting, which I have no problem with at all. But that is just disgusting, and I don't see how any "hunter" with any kind of self respect could do that and call themselves sportsmen. Not to mention that the idiotic idea that we should offer bounties to kill natural predators, so more people can kill more hooved animals, is disturbing. This pisses me off. Her support of that practice is enough to completely turn me off of her. It's disgusting.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 12:19 PM) There's a difference between owning stock and doing anything with it. I own a couple shares, but that's because my aunt gave them to me when I graduated. I haven't yet had the financial ability to actively do more than just owning those, and probably a majority of those shareholders are in a similar boat; they rely on someone else to make their decisions. Also, a lot of that stock might be tax-deferred accounts (401(k)'s, IRA's, etc.).

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) I realize that but the average American doesn't know squat about investing in the markets. Well, they really, really should learn instead of blowing their money on consumer garbage. Then maybe they will understand the capital gains tax and why it effects virtually everyone instead of just whining about evil "elitists" who invest money.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) You're making that kind of money? Not today (I've only been out of school and in the work force for a little over a year), but hopefully some day. I was just curious to see what the calculator said with the various input options. I'm sure there are others here that are making that kind of money ($100k+).

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 8, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) Your taxes under an Obama administration: http://alchemytoday.com/obamataxcut/ Nice. When Obama's cut gives you more, it tells you how much more in taxes you'd have to pay under McCain. When McCain would cut your taxes more, no mention of that at all!

Carlos Quentin has a broken wrist
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) We won it in '05 without Frank, now we have to win it in '08 without TCQ. This team is plenty good to make a run without Carlos. Frank didn't carry the team for 3/4 of a season.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 09:48 AM) Another negative for me was that he couldn't even control the crowd...Obama was in front of 75K and had more control over his listeners. And what was all the hub bub in the middle with the women in the purple shirt. Was she holding a liberal sign or something then got attacked? It was some left-wing Code Pink members who were there solely to disrupt the speech.

Sarah Palin loves her some Windfall Profits Tax and giving that money directly to citizens. Hmm, sounds exactly like Obama's plan that was derided by Republicans (and rightly so). http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/loca...laskatax07.html

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 05:44 PM) You sound like you have some personal experience in this matter. d'oh! Ouch! There's a personal attack if I've ever seen one It's not the size of the country, its what you do with it.
-
Sarah Palin
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) He references Cuba and Iran and he is comparing the "size" to Russia, he isnt talking about economic size. He actually uses the word "tiny" "tiny" does not necessarily mean physical size. I really don't know why you keep insisting that it does. Iran is tiny compared to cold-war Russia in many, many ways. I really don't understand how anyone could honestly think he was talking about land mass there. He doesn't have the intellect of a 10 year old.

Sarah Palin
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) Obama clearly used the size of Iran as reasoning why they arent a threat. Alaska is, in fact, the largest state in the US. Would you like me to find you the quote from Obama and a map? Did you forget the green here? Read that quote in context. He was comparing the size of the threat of current-day Iran and cold-war Russia.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) One of these day's I'm gonna figure out how to start my centrist "a little from both side" party. Step 1 - get hundreds of millions of dollars Step 2 - ??? Step 3 - Presidency!
