AIG is down over 50% in pre-market trading. Ouch.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
StrangeSox replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 07:43 AM) It's all the brainchild of his campaign advisors. Granted, McCain approves all this stuff, in theory. But I don't see that there's any way for him to separate himself from that, although some of his recent ads have really been pretty overboard e.g. Obama wants to teach kindergardeners about sex. His entire campaign has really gone downhill, in terms of quality. What's really sad, to me anyway, is that his poll numbers are following the inverse. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...8091600640.html -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 16, 2008 -> 07:27 AM) That sentence makes absolutely zero sense, grammatically or otherwise. How dare you criticize her, you misogynist pig! Some Obama supporters pull the race card, but not nearly to the level that McCain's campaign is pulling the POW/ Sexism card. I've really lost almost all respect for him. -
QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) At least the twins have Matt Guerrier in. Reyes is coming in. At least we can all take comfort in that the Twins' bullpen is at least as bad as the Sox'.

Nice play by Jr.! Cleveland has the bases loaded, no outs in the bottom of the 8th.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 07:25 PM) That's fine with me, just make it. Not wanting to go to the playoffs because you think you'll lose is lame. Why even play the season then? Don't get me wrong, I still want them to make it. I just don't see them doing anything but giving up runs via the bullpen once they're thee.
-
Yes, more awesome baseball! This teamk is going to embarrass itself in the playoffs.
-
Awesome at-bat by Uribe.
-
Hawk is PISSED at Rameriz right now. What an awful outing. I'm shocked that this bullpen is giving up more runs. Shocked.
-
So I don't really follow the Brewers at all. What did Yost do (or not do) that was so awful that led to being fired at the end of a season in a playoff race?

http://www.wewillnotbesilenced2008.com/ What are your thoughts? Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes to me.

Of course, a lot of Republicans/ Obama haters used this moment to heavily criticize Biden.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) I'm pretty sure the Iranians hung on to the hostages longer mostly to insult Carter for trying to rescue them and that Reagan didn't play that much of a role. Although I admittedly haven't done all my research here either. that's what I've heard. Reagan didn't directly negotiate with them.

Merrill Lynch sold, Lehman Bros. Liquidating
StrangeSox replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 09:14 AM) Could be. I'm just saying don't think that because oil is up the DOW should be down and vice versa. Trust me, the person I'm hearing this from doesn't think like that. He does VERY well for himself as a financial planner. Just about everything I've heard from him over the past year regarding financials (not talking about specific advice or anything, just what's going on in the market and where its going) has ended up spot-on. -

Getting to work today (in Des Plaines) was interesting. Seems like half of the roads are closed due to flooding.

Dow's down 350 pts, S &P down 50 in pre-market trading. This kind of consolidation could mean we're nearing a bottom, though. -
Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
StrangeSox replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
They had awful field position all day long (Maynard looked bad) and they couldn't get their offense going at all in the second half. Orton is good in short and medium throws, but teams aren't even going to bother covering the deep plays. He kept missing wide open receivers. -
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Sep 14, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) I dont see why the kids let themselves get it taken up the ass. Im sorry but if i was part of a frat or football team or whatever.... I wouldnt let it happen. You're talking about a whole bunch of guys vs. you. If they want that broomstick up your butt, its going there.

Repressed homosexuality, anyone?

The Cheap Trick-Heart-Journey concert at the First Midwest Amphitheater (formally Tweeter Center, formally New World Music Theater) was pretty funny. I was out in the lawn and it was POURING all night long. A bunch of people decided to turn the hill into one big, muddy slip-and-slide. The weather channel said this morning that a lot of areas in Northern Illinois got 5-7 inches last night, were expected to get 1-2 more today, and Ike is still coming tomorrow. This has just been a ridiculous amount of rain. And now my plans for the night are canceled because half of the roads in Tinley Park/ Orland are flooded.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) Sent: Thu 9/11/2008 6:52 PM To: Kathryn Lopez Subject: I love her feistiness I am not your typical Republican. Pro-life, gun owning lesbian with a partner and we are voting for McCain and we are doing because of Palin. We love her feistiness and understand what it means to have to take on stupid, ignorant comments about who we are. So we hope she stays on offense and never backs down Keep it boys, your doing a bang up job. I'm sorry, but that's just a dumb reason to vote for someone to be President.

Who do you think will win the November election?
StrangeSox replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in The Filibuster
I'm thinking McCain is going to carry this momentum through to a close victory. The campaigns are getting nasty, and nobody does nasty politics better than the GOP. -
It definitely still has meaning. I can't watch the videos of the planes without an emotional reaction and a chill down my spine. For whatever reason, the New York Times and the Washington Post did not run a front-page story on it today. The other forum I frequent (automotive) has a decent amount of people from NY. Someone started a "Where were you?" thread, and some of those stories were pretty powerful. People there lost a lot of friends and family, and many witnessed it first hand. Some were even just across the street. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 06:49 PM) My nephew's birthday is on September 11. In 2001 he was pretty young, but old enough to know that his birthday was f***ed up that day. This happened when I was in high school, and one of the girls in my class had her birthday on that day.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) I think there's a lot of manufactured outrage over this interview already. I've seen bits and pieces. What I've seen, she doesn't look particularly good. I don't think she looked egregiously bad either. She didn't threaten war against Russia. She didn't rule it out, either... but it was kind of a wikipedia answer to the situation. I'd agree, except for that bit AHB posted right above you. It didn't seem to be said tongue-in-cheek. It seems like she honestly believes Alaska's geographic proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience.
