  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 07:16 AM) 6 people voted for Palin - I'd like to know why, honestly. Besides exceeding expectations, avoiding falling on her face, and generally redeeming herself, I can't think of any reason why that's a win. I won't give her bonus points for meeting lowered expectations though. The Couric interview set her expectations slightly above "drooling on herself when asked a difficult question."
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 06:42 AM) The entire week people would call in and say that they were worried about the Dodgers and the Cubs possibly not playing well. Both Bernsie and Boers basically called them idiots, saying there was no way the Cubs dont win the NL, and that no team would be able to win two games in a row at Wrigley. Are those callers still idiots Dan & Terry? That's why I can't stand the Score. They just insult any listener who dares to disagree with them. At least over on ESPN they usually will make their argument as to why they're wrong instead of just hanging up on the guy and then ripping him.
  3. A majority of Palin's responses were heavily coached/ scripted. That's probably why half of her answers weren't even close to the question topics. She was also very, very nervous when it started. Her voice was shaky and she was rushing her words. When they cut to the 3/4 behind shot, you could see her hands shaking on the podium. She did eventually settle down, though.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Other than the two crushed homers by Longoria, the two 450 foot shots that were foul by about 5 feet each by Floyd, the double, and the sac fly, they really haven't hit the ball hard. So I guess you are right. "other than all of those hits he's giving up and how hard he's getting hit, he's pitching very well!"
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) No Javy should not be throwing pitches to Longoria in those situations. I dont care if Javy left them up, the fact the Sox were throwing him anything close is ridiculous. They weren't supposed to be hanging curveballs over the middle of the plate. Javy just lacks to ability to pitch.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:34 PM) That inning wasnt on Vazquez. The first hit if Uribe plays back is maybe an out. Iwamura goes to sacrifice on the first pitch so on the second pitch they called a fastball for him, unfortunately he was swinging. Longoria, Ozzie is retarded why are we even going after him, we should be working around him and letting the rest of the team beat us. I'm sorry, did someone besides Javy hang a nice, juicy meatball to Longoria? This is directly on him.
  7. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) he parked that even adjusting, I hate to give an opposing player props when Vazquez sucks, and especially in the playoffs, but that was a good piece of hitting. According to Stone and Farmer, it was a rolling belt-high curve ball. Not exactly a difficult pitch to handle.
  8. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) Did anyone notice that midway through the game that Ripken said "It looked like it was gonna be a 9-8 ballgame at the start, but it is starting to look like a 1-0 game now" He also called a Thome HR in the pre-game, and I think either him or the other guy said Griffey was going to come up big.
  9. QUOTE (YahtzeeSox @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) One must also take into consideration that this may have been planned by Bobby Jenks... throw 95 tops most of the year and be mostly a finesse pitcher and get people out by making them make bad contact, but then at the end of the season in the big games... turn it back on and completely fool the opposition while they think you transformed yourself into a finesse pitcher. I actually kind of suspected this earlier on in the season, and it's odd that I was right. I don't know if he was doing it out of deception, but I can easily see him trying to finese his way through the season just to save his arm. Who knows how long he'd last throwing 98 MPH the entire season. He saved his best stuff for when it really mattered.
  10. QUOTE (Soxy @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) Those interviews with her really remind me of the beauty pageant contestant that had that horrible answer about education. "And such as....the Iraqs" I agree. I think I posted the video in this thread earlier. It's on youtube, anyway.
  11. Some of their graphics were really, really bad. Their stat line for players only showed "current average." They didn't even both with HR's or RBI's, let alone OBP. And that graphic that showed how they did at the plate in each inning was confusing and way too busy. Other than that, I had no complaints. The coverage was good and I enjoyed seeing the replay of Thome's home run about a dozen times.
  12. Screw them and their team for celebrating like they won the World Series after sweeping the Sox.
  13. Sample size. 10 or even 20 AB's or a handful of starts don't tell you much of anything.
  14. Judy Biggert, from Illinois' Fighting 13th, voted nay. I'm glad.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) LMAO. RSO has the same stance so WTF are you b****ing about? Remember when McCain tried to lecture Obama during the debates for saying that he would support cross-border strikes into Pakistan?
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) Those of us that went to work are going to get to see some ball... I've been listening to the Score all afternoon, hope to get to watch a winner in the play in to the play in. I'm at work, I was planning on catching the game on the radio.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) God dammit! Figures I'll probably miss most of the game. I was hoping I would catch this one in before four, but it looks like that won't be the case. Yep, same for me. I've got a bunch of stuff to take care of tonight and I'll miss most if not all of the game. Stupid rain!
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) Well...I ain't gettin into Russia, that's for sure. You can keep a close eye on the Russian markets from Alaska, or so I hear...
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) There is light at the end of the tunnel though. In fact, for long term investors (paper or real estate for that matter), this is a buying opportunity. I've always heard that more millionaires are made from bear markets than from bulls. Think of it as a huge 50% off clearance sale. Just do your homework and make sure you're buying a product that isn't junk and will fall apart after a few weeks of use. Personally, I just reduced my 401(k) contribution slightly, but that's because my options in it are not very good. I'll be taking the difference and sticking it in an IRA.
  20. Your political compass Economic Left/Right: 0.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.21 I'm a libertarian who trusts private business not to screw me/ the planet over only slightly more than I trust government.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) Bailout package has FAILED in the house. Dow down 500+ points, approaching 600. Major indices down 5 to 6% on the day Falling, yes I am falling... Dow down over 6%, S&P down over 7%. Ouch. edit: in between the time I looked on google news and posted this response (1 minute), the Dow had shot up from -660 to -527. I *think* the market is a little volatile right now...
  22. I decided to buy an Xbox 360 over the weekend on an impulse. I know it's a little old but I'm having fun going through Halo 3 on legendary. Messed around a little with Portal from Orange Box, too.
  23. Comcast is the devil. If I could switch to satellite (I'm in a condo, no dishes allowed), I would do it in a heartbeat. Comcast charges a lot (don't be lured in by their 12 month promotional periods - rates after that are significantly higher!), doesn't seem to offer anything more than satellite (I don't find much use for OnDemand), and their customer service is awful. I have even more problems with my internet service. It's 50/50 if it'll work at any given time without having to cycle the modem. Several techs and hours on phone support haven't resolved the issue. Oh, and they have monthly caps now, too. I believe there is more compression on satellite signals due to bandwidth vs. channels issues. You might notice a slight difference in picture on two identical sets, but I don't know for sure.
