  1. DNAinfo was always such a weird name to me because it screams "fake bulls***" but it was actually a decent site, especially for localized news.
  2. So many of these injuries aren't even "big hit" injuries but the NFL continues to lose its best players.
  3. The Ricketts family decided to shut down DNAinfo and Gothamist because their editorial staff unionized last week.
  4. Apparently he did invoke the 5th for any and all document requests.
  5. Carter Page has been answering questions in a closed door House Intel session for over 7 hours now. Without a lawyer.
  6. It was a joke about the attempted Papadopolous deflection from the Trump camp.
  7. This article touches on the deeply rooted problem that's been exacerbated by social media America is facing an epistemic crisis What if Mueller proves his case and it doesn’t matter?
  8. Lamar Smith ®-TX is retiring His district is pretty solidly R, but he's been in the House forever and has a lot of seniority.
  9. NFIB comes out against it, and Realtors and homebuilders hate the plan as well. Keeps the carried interest loophole so Wall Street is happy with it.
  10. Sessions under renewed scrutiny on Capitol Hill I'm sure this time he'll be held accountable for his perjury.
  11. King and Zeldin from NY are already coming out as No's on this over the SALT rollbacks along with LoBiondo from NJ.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 11:59 AM) Yes! Allowing sanctuary cities to be used against you when ... there are no sanctuary cities in Virginia and it's unclear that the opponent even knows what sanctuary cities are. "Sanctuary Cities" means MS-13 brown people. It's just the same Willie Horton s*** Republicans have been pulling for decades. They're doing it because it works really, really well with an unfortunately large portion of the country.
  13. Everyone should be angry that they turned over so much control to Clinton's campaign team because Clinton's campaign team was extremely bad.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) The VA Gov campaign underscores how bernie should be the candidate in 2020 despite age. He's the only democrat-aligned politician capable of effectively playing offense. You mean tacking to the right and saying "ban sanctuary cities!" because your Republican opponent has gone Full Trump on the racism is bad?!
  15. Sam Clovis, the Trump campaign official who encouraged Papadopolous to make a trip to Russia, is withdrawn as the nominee to be the USDA's top scientist (for which he had no qualifications)
  16. Who knows if it even makes it out of the House. They wrote the bill largely in secret again and didn't consult their caucus for the input or opinions on various provisions. R's from states with relatively high property taxes and state income taxes (IL, CA, NJ, NY) have strong reasons to object to this bill since it basically deliberately harms blue states. They'll get something passed at some point, and it'll largely be bad, but I'd be shocked if it's by Christmas and anything close to what this bill is.
  17. There are enough parts of it with opposition already clearly stated in the Senate that it doesn't have 50 votes as-is. I'm sure will see the same wild ride we did with healthcare though, including attempts to pass a bad bill nobody wants in order to get it to reconciliation conference. The plan also eliminates the Alternative Minimum Tax. In 2005, the one year we have for Trump's taxes, this would have saved him $31M.
  18. Gotta say I'm a little disappointed they didn't stick with Trump's proposed "CUT CUT CUT TAX PLAN" name for the bill
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) Anyway this is DOA in senate. Fun suicide mission by Ryan though. Very Serious Policy Wonk Paul Ryan has been "working" on budgets, healthcare plans, and tax bills for nearly a decade a now and has zero to show for it. He's got the most undeserved reputation for being a smart policy guy in Washington.
  20. They're gonna do that anyway, though. It's still a tough sell to Republicans from states like Illinois, NY and California.
  21. I'm going to ask my boss about that $4k salary increase the White House is promising will come from this bill. I'll let you know when he stops laughing.
  22. Sure, because they'll use the enormous hole in the budget they're trying to create to justify harsh austerity measures a few years down the road, and Third Way centrists and weak democrats (looking at you Lipinski) will go along with them. "starve the beast" is intentional
  23. Not only are mortgage interest deductions capped for all new loans going forward, but property tax deductions are also capped at $10k. Student loan interest deductions eliminated. State income tax deductions eliminated. Looks like the upper middle class (let's call this low-six figure household income range, 100-250k maybe) would be hosed hard by this.
