  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) Hans Von Spakovsky is a horrible man, who has been an incredibly useful idiot, posting flawed study after flawed study to be used by AGs to restrict voter id http://talkingpointsmemo.com/muckraker/al-...-id-stats-video So they passed out a flier basically promoting Sessions' record in favor of black voter suppression. Cool. some background on that story that they're promoting as a good thing https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/09/magazine...scape.html?_r=1
  2. Corey Booker laying into Sessions in his testimony right now, and Rep. John Lewis is up next. He's still going to sail through confirmation and be an awful, awful AG who works against civil rights and voting rights, but at least there's a heck of a lot more push back today than there was yesterday. Yesterday, Sessions expressed heavy skepticism towards Consent Decrees, one of the best tools that the DoJ Civil Rights department has for bringing state and local public institutions into line.
  3. Something else that slipped under the radar in that lunatic press conference was Trump proposing hilariously unlawful trade tariffs.
  4. The story of the Trump dossier: secret sources, an airport handoff, and John McCain
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) lol paperwork props. And it won't be a blind trust, it'll be run by his sons. The same sons he has sit in on all of his meetings. So it's not severing conflicts of interest at all, and probably still in violation of the emoluments clause. He's not going to divest from hotels, golf clubs, real estate properties, anything. they were purely props e: they're also unlabeled, so almost definitely not even real files.
  6. lets see what his policies look like, though. give him a chance.
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) Some look at substance and policy instead of style. Many agree with his promises. We'll see if he sticks to them. Not sure how substance and policy are a point in favor of Trump either, especially substance. But if someone's all on board the Trump Train for his white nationalist and pro-Russia policies, his only really consistent policy positions, okay. It still takes a hell of a lot to ignore just how awful his "style" is, which does matter when you're the leader of a country, and his conflicts of interest, threats to the press, etc.
  8. This is the law firm that was representing Trump at the press conference regarding his business deals
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) Besides that whole press conference being stupid and embarrassing. The way Trump treats the press is pretty worrisome. he's also right here:
  10. Regarding ACA, he didn't really say anything at all beyond calling Obamacare/Democrats failures and saying we'll replace it with something good, and very soon. He has no idea.
  11. Refused to answer whether any of his people were in contact with Russia. This is good. This is normal. At least he's finally come around to acknowledging that Russia did in fact interfere in the election rather than undermining the intelligence community as he did for weeks. e: and ended the conference with a reality TV show catch phrase. We're fully into Idiocracy territory now. e2: lol confirmed moron
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) See comment a few posts above this It's pretty amazing that anyone could look at how Trump has conducted himself over the past two months, let alone the last few years, and think "Yes, this is good. This man is fit to be the President."
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Do people believe that Sessions said that pot comment in seriousness? When I heard it, it sounds like someone who was being totally sarcastic. Please note, I'm specifically referring to that comment not other aspects of Sessions. Sessions has a history of being a hardcore War on Drugs guy and a pretty sketchy history of attacking various minority groups like the NAACP and working to suppress minority votes, so it doesn't seem like a stretch to assume it's "kidding on the square" at best. There's a reason that a GOP Senate thought he was too racist in the 1980's to be appointed.
  14. He's not actually answering any of the questions and instead is using his answers to just insult anyone who challenges him. My god, the next four years are going to be such a s***show, and his followers are so wrapped up in his cult of personality they'll never see it or admit it.
  15. Now defending his Nazi Germany tweet. Not that it makes any sense, but there it is. And threatening the press. It can't happen here!
  16. The wall will be built starting immediately, and Mexico's going to pay!
  17. The "Trump couldn't possibly divest, he'd lose money!" defense from his lawyer is pretty telling. "What, you actually expect this man to sacrifice anything?"
  18. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) Basically we're counting on there being enough sane and intelligent Republicans around him to limit the damage. Trump is truly a dumpster fire. lol we're f***ed
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) Invoking God...will be the greatest jobs creator ever made by God? What? This is insane. Going after Podesta, taking shots at Hillary and the DNC for their security....nothing is surprising when the day began with comparisons to Nazi Germany. That germaphobe comment to deflect from the golden showers? Nobody cares about his taxes? It's only reporters, sure. Stating over and over again he can't have a conflict of interest....no ties to Russia? Cmon. Eric and Donald Jr. will never talk to him and will be sequestered in a soundproof booth? You'd think he was giving a press conference for winning the Nobel Prize in every possible category. America is doomed. It's Day -9 of the Trump Presidency. I don't know how he, or us, will survive this.
  20. Trump's PR guy Sean Spicer started out the press conference by claiming Trump never met and didn't know Carter Page. Whoops. And now they're claiming that Trump divesting would actually be the REAL conflict of interest, you see! If Trump didn't want to deal with that, he didn't need to run for President.
  21. lol paperwork props. And it won't be a blind trust, it'll be run by his sons. The same sons he has sit in on all of his meetings. So it's not severing conflicts of interest at all, and probably still in violation of the emoluments clause. He's not going to divest from hotels, golf clubs, real estate properties, anything.
  22. I legitimately believe that Trump suffers from some pretty severe narcissism to the point that it affects his ability to function in everyday life, but I'll drop it.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) "We have much hacking going on." The eloquence of Obama to the stupidity of this man. An unintelligent, legendarily petty, mentally ill man who may or may not but probably is owned by the Russian mafia/government (same thing really) will be the most powerful person in the world in 9 days. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:31 AM) Good for Rubio asking tough questions to Tillerson on Russia. Yeah, that was excellent and well-deserved push back. Sessions is going to sail through unfortunately, but I'm not so sure about Tillerson.
  24. and Tillerson engaged in some standard climate change denialism, saying man has an impact but that we have a "very limited ability to predict" what that impact will be. Which, of course, is false.
