  1. "the last 50 years" puts us past "start of the Vietnam war," so I'm not sure what other strategic mistake could really rival it.
  2. Heck, Brownback's latest plan to borrow money against the state pension funds to help cover the massive budget holes he's created thanks to those same supply-side economic advisers deserves its own post. Brownback budget director, other state officials defend pension bonds after Moody's report Kansas' sale of $1 billion in bonds an effort to boost retirement system used by teachers, government employees The plan essentially relies on the rest of the economy growing continually and dragging Kansas along. If the plan fails, state pensions will be the one to take the hit, and I'm sure it wouldn't be used as an opportunity to rail against broken public pensions and the need to destroy more government functions.
  3. Jeb Bush's tax plan, explained edit: worth pointing out that Jeb! shares economic/tax policy advisers with Sam "Single-Handily Destroying Kansas" Brownback.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) Greg I'm pretty sure you'd love every George Will column and all columns.
  5. Isn't the actual rate of false accusations somewhere around 5%? 41% seems ridiculously high.

  7. Is NY one of the states that requires a grand jury or can the prosecutor directly indict?
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) Who said they were? Well it doesn't make sense to say "proven innocent" in the context of a trial.
  9. FWIW being found not guilty and being "proven innocent" are not the same thing by a long shot.
  10. There aren't many teams wasting roster spots on a 3rd string QB these days, and like bmags pointed out, having him as a "backup" doesn't really make sense because you have to change your entire offense to cover up for his many weaknesses.
  11. QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) Yeah I would have liked to at least see him fail miserably on the field before being a cast away. It seems like he never really done that and there are quarterbacks in the league that are allowed to be bad on a yearly basis and still dont get cast away like Tebow. Maybe the other garbage QB's are given a shot because there's at least a very small chance of hitting a higher ceiling whereas everyone evaluates Tebow's ceiling to be pretty low?
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:36 AM) Its one thing to have someone looking across the field trying to decipher what the other team is doing, but its a different game when you are having someone recording those signals and bringing them back to the coach at halftime. I could have sworn that they were also recording the defensive signals in the walk thrus and practices before the game he has been dead in the water for a while now that's what I remember, that they were taping opponents' practices.
  13. Eh I'm pretty doubtful that they had anything to do with it. There's already a guy (Rudy Guede) sitting in jail for the murder who left evidence all over the crime scene and had no relationship with Knox or her boyfriend. There's not really a scenario that makes sense where Knox, her boyfriend and some random stranger kill Kercher together.
  14. The Italian high court has issued their formal ruling detailing the reasoning behind their acquittal. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2...-case/71844786/

  16. The Fearful and the Frustrated Donald Trump’s nationalist coalition takes shape—for now. Long read on the white nationalism that's part of Trump's current popularity.
  17. Surprise Military Reunions At NFL Games Reach Peak BS
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) Let me know if it's not allowed to criticized Hillary. I will stop. I thought anything was on limits in the filibuster as long as you don't cuss. jesus just stop that nonsense already.
  19. There's not lack of instruction. The parts of the law that restrict marriage to opposite sex couples have been made invalid. The rest of the Kentucky marriage law stands, so Davis must issue marriage licenses to whoever meets the states's qualifications. When Loving v. Virginia came down, would it have been any less dumb to say "but the legislature didn't pass a law giving me authority to recognize mixed-race marriages!"?
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) I don't recall any personal information being released. Was that of Brady? The two ball guys? Either way, again, Goodell's decision made clear that on several occasions the NFL told Brady they wanted the phone to look at communications about deflating balls and the AFC championship game and that they had no problem with his lawyers creating a log of the texts with redactions for personal messages where necessary. And even more damning to this claim: Brady gave them -- handed over with redacting anything-- TWO personal cell phones, one from way before the time in question and one after the time in question (or maybe he gave them one and the other he offered but the NFL said no thanks that's irrelevant...I can't remember off the top of my head). Of course the one the NFL wanted to look at, the one from around the time of the AFC championship game up to the time the investigation started (like Oct-March I believe), he coincidentally destroyed....again, despite knowing the NFL wanted to look at the texts. In a normal court with a jury, Brady is guilty beyond doubt. That's why this decision is dumb. He's getting off on minor technicalities. Some cop f***ed up paperwork and the criminal gets off free despite convincing circumstantial evidence that he committed the crime. The NFL's own report said that Tom Brady was "probably at least generally aware" of deflating the balls. That's not exactly a strong claim of guilt. There's still not even definitive proof that the balls were intentionally underinflated. edit: I'd also prefer no punishment to over-the-top punishment, so even though Brady/The Patriots really are probably guilty, I'm happier with nothing than with a ridiculous 4 game suspension.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) Again, the NFL Players Association agreed to this process during their collective bargaining agreement negotiations. This is true, but Goodell-as-arbitrator still needs to act fair and impartial. He doesn't, so we get results like this.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) I always assumed the initial penalty is handed down by some other NFL exec that deals with punishment and then Goodell acts as the arbitrator of that decision. But I don't know for sure. Nope! Goodell reviews the wisdom of his own decisions.
  23. Liberty Counsel are a bunch of fundamentalist assholes that are just using this woman as a tool to further their cause/fundraising. This isn't the first time they've given their clients absolutely terrible advice.
