  1. Year-over-year unemployment claims are looking absolutely dire already Illinois unemployment: "Over the last two days, IDES has received over 41,000 unemployment benefit claims, compared to the same two days during the corresponding week last year, when IDES received 4,445 unemployment benefit claims."
  2. Got a chuckle out of this
  3. Don't single out dumb kids. Plenty of dumb older people acting like this isn't a big deal too.
  4. Ryan Pace is very bad at his job
  5. Bears Worst QB Yep checks out
  6. So far 19 people have been tested at Silver Cross hospital, 10 negative, still waiting on 9 more results....
  7. Potentially some good news, at least for the northern hemisphere
  8. Perhaps there is a disconnect in the understanding of the various numbers and how comparable they are? This is now at least two separate public health officials releasing similar estimates for their states. Take it up with them, I guess.
  9. Indiana came out today with an estimate of 60k people currently infected in that state alone. https://www.wfyi.org/news/articles/likely-more-than-60000-hoosiers-have-covid-19-says-state-health-director
  10. The panic if this particular virus was killing children at more typical viral rates would be world ending I think.
  11. re: the UK "plan"
  12. Actual public health departments seem pretty confident about putting the total infected number in the hundreds of thousands already. Whole lotta infected are nearly or entirely asymptomatic but have been widely spreading it.
  13. Indiana health department is estimating ~60k infections, Ohio was saying ~100k.
  14. RIP hospitality industry
  15. We are going to have substantial portions of the workforce on "unpaid leave" for weeks if not months.
  16. Stay home.
  17. Most people still don't get the gravity of this. Nearly the entire service industry is going to be shut down for weeks or months.
  18. Vegas shutting down
  19. Isn't the British "plan'" if it can be called that, being widely condemned by public health experts and institutions around the world?
  20. Similar story at DFW and other airports. Can't imagine a better way to spread this virus from anyone infected on those planes back from Europe.
  21. Oh right, that wording of mine isn't clear. If the nyt reporter is right about what measures are necessary to actually clamp down on this thing, there is no way we will or probably even can implement them. So we're looking at the same fate as Italy.
