QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 9, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) If I recall our discussion earlier in this thread, you suggested pretty strongly that a big key step if you're purchasing a dog from a breeder ought to involve personally checking out the breeder and the conditions where the pets are coming from. Absolutely...there is a difference between reputable breeder and what are termed "backyard" breeders...backyard breeders are typically people who breed their b****es as many times as is biologically possible to create the largest number of saleable pups...they don't understand what they are doing and this is purely a financial ploy as opposed to trying to produce quality dogs and improve the breed overall.

An update on my situation...I went to the folks I have been working with in legal and explained to them my situation...that I was starting to get approached by other companies, that I was very confident I would have an offer in place very soon, but that I would like to stay here...but I would need my role revised and my compensation adjusted commensurately with the work I have been performing. The lawyers went to their boss and he basically told them to do whatever they need to do to keep me. So I am getting a new title, new direct reports, but get to continue to stay in the same office, and of course, a hefty raise... Couldn't be happier that I gave them a chance to keep me here, as I am going to come out ahead of the other potential offer and avoid the hassle of moving and all that...

The rescue versus breeder argument is really a complex one... Keep in mind that breeders are out there working hard to improve the breed and to place great dogs with great owners...most of them are responsible owners and most of the best breeders don't exactly make a killer living doing this...they are in it because they love the breed. When you support them you support the health of the breed and enable people who have the best interests of the dog in mind to actually continue their great work. There is nothing wrong with supporting breeders and buying well-bred dog with the personality and temperament to fit in best with you and your family.

Sale back to the rotation per KW, MRI comes back clean
iamshack replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Reddy @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) if they cared about preserving Sale's value on the market, they'd never have DONE this to begin with. they destroyed his value by waving a big red flag and pointing at Chris' elbow. I think they are genuinely concerned about him first, as they should be, as they have an obligation to be. -

Guys, look at what is happening with the other members of the bullpen...the elephant in the room is ADDISON REED. I think they finally realize they need to turn the closer role, permanently, over to Reed. Which means Sale is going to be a setup man and now there are 4 lefties in the pen until they do the smart thing and send Santiago back down. Sale is not going to be happy as a setup man, and neither is Kenny, since it reduces his trade value. They are trying to figure out what makes Sale the most valuable not only to the Sox, but also to other organizations, as well as what will keep him from blowing his elbow out and keeping him happy. And Chris's agent is obviously going to tell him that priority one is starting and two is closing...those are the two positions which will maximize his earning capacity. But now the closing role is being taken by someone else...so where does that leave us...back to starting... -

I think this actually is as much a reaction to the realization that Reed is our long-term closer as anything Chris has or hasn't done since the initial decision. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) Because Ventura and perhaps Cooper or Herm Schneider convinced Chris it was the best thing for his future, even if it wasn't what he wanted. So he was supposed to say what, that he refused to go to the pen and was going to file a grievance with the player's union? No, but it points out that the organizational plan, at least temporarily, was to have him come out of the pen for the rest of the year...either that or that was his impression of what they wanted him to do. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 9, 2012 -> 09:15 AM) Hawk sure seemed to think it was permanent with his comment about how it's more difficult to find a good closer than a starter. Sale himself said it was not in the cards this year to continue starting. -
QUOTE (G&T @ May 9, 2012 -> 08:02 AM) That's a little more than what we paid for our cockapoo. They are expensive but great dogs. Best breed of small dog I've come across. It better be first generation though. Otherwise he might be getting ripped off (at least in my opinion). What is a cock-a-poo? Cocker and Poodle, I presume?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 9, 2012 -> 07:03 AM) Potential boss' boss had to cancel trip to Indy so my final interview is on hold for now. I'm kinda bummed. Oh that's lame...hopefully they will reschedule quickly or just handle the process without him...

Gameday Thread-Doubleheader Special: White Sox vs Indians

QUOTE (Jake @ May 7, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) Don't forget how good he's been for so long with a 1 pitch repertoire. He just needs to throw it in the right place. Even when it is good enough, they know it's coming and they get wood on it and they shank some bulls*** out over the infield. Guy gives up so many bulls*** bloop hits because they know a fast ball is coming and time it up enough to at least get a piece of it. -

The hell with the baseball gods right now...we cannot buy a goddamned break. -
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 7, 2012 -> 12:18 PM) He's really dumb for admitting it, but it was going to be obvious regardless. When you read Zimmerman's explanation of why he hit Hamels though, it's just laughable...they should discard that from any part of the discussion.
-
The cool thing is that the Nats drilled Hamels in the shin in his first PA, and he took it like a man and just jogged down to first base and then it was over. He then shut them down for 8 innings and got on base himself a few more times.

Ok, so if you are able to complete it again, is there some way to modify the program so that you can sustain a high level of fitness but without going all nuts about it?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 7, 2012 -> 08:43 AM) It's important to keep active, especially as you age, because the less active you become, the more of being inactive becomes your routine. Once it's your routine, it's very hard to break. This is why I dislike crash diets and crash workouts. For the record, I don't find P90X to be "crash"...the diet they have is a bit crash, but not the workouts themselves. Insanity, on the other hand, is a crash workout...it's unsustainable just like a crash diet...at least, in my opinion. Also, I have more reading to do on the "muscle confusion" thing, but from what I've read over the years to this point, scientifically speaking, it isn't real. From the scientific research done on this...muscles are either overloaded or they're not, and there is no way to 'confuse them', as they simply perform actions they are able to perform and that's that. I know P90X uses this term as a selling point, and it's a term that's existed in the weight lifting/exercise community for a LONNNNNNG time, but the way I see it...it's not really important. So long as you are doing something, you're doing something...and that's always going to be better than doing nothing. Yeah, I don't get caught up in their marketing mumbo jumbo...in P90X2, their new bread and butter is something called PAP, Post-Activation Potentiation. From what I can tell, this has been around for the last decade or so, and they are selling it as if it is brand new. They are also acting as if it will really benefit me, when it probably benefits someone training for like one special event in the olympics or something. I really don't buy into the marketing stuff, and I really don't go too crazy about the diet...what I do love is that it is a structured routine that I can follow with relative ease and get awesome results. That's all I really care about.

I think everyone should do whatever they like to do. It's obvious, Y2H, that you know quite a bit about exercising and you are well-informed enough to know what works for you and what doesn't. I'm pretty sure that people that are really at an advanced stage can put together their own routines. I doubt Tony Horton does the P90X routine to keep himself in the shape he does. I think the brilliance of P90X and 2 is that it packages a very effective workout that accomplishes the goals of what a large percentage of people are looking to accomplish by working out. I don't feel embarrassed at all that I have to follow these videos to get in really good shape. And the results I have gotten are such that I wouldn't care if someone did make fun of me. In fact, there are a few people at work that like to poke fun of the "muscle confusion" thing, and I roll with it, but a lot of times that is just their way of deflecting their own feelings of inadequacy for being unwilling or unable to do the program themselves. No one makes fun of me when I kick all their asses in our football and basketball games every weekend. In fact, that's when all the questions begin.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 7, 2012 -> 08:05 AM) I think they are also pissed that Harper seems to be proving what he thinks of himself. I am sure they would prefer he fail. Doesn't matter...no reason to be a massive jerk...you're amongst the best players in the world now... Being in Vegas, there was a lot of talk about the guy...and all of it was that he is just a massive doucher.

QUOTE (MAX @ May 6, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Marv Albert looks ridiculous. He is 70+ years old his hair has zero grey or white in it. I always thought Fratello looked even more ridiculous.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2012 -> 08:08 AM) John Paxson has surgery related to an irregular heartbeat. Can you blame him, after the last two weeks or so?

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 7, 2012 -> 08:14 AM) I've been lifting weights for a bit here (I'm stronger, but still overweight), but gonna start Insanity again. I pray I stick to it this time as the night shift life sucks at times. G!...why do you keep trying to do that crazy program? It's not maintainable! Do you have access to P90X?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 7, 2012 -> 09:04 AM) Sorry, I missed that, and I wasn't trying to be purposefully abrasive...but when I get someone saying something like, "well I can pick up chix at the bar!", it's kind of like...oh ok...so this is the kind of conversation we're having now. And I wasn't really arguing a "position", I merely started by saying I find these home workouts to be somewhat embarrassing in that I won't do them in front of other people. I didn't say they were bad or people shouldn't do them. There is no currency greater in college among dudes than being able to pick up the hottest girls in the bars. What kind of conversation are we having if it is about people poking fun at you for exercising? "Ooooh, look at him, he's mimicking the exercises they are doing on the tv! Hahaha...what a loser!" Ummm...ok
-
QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 7, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) I don't see anything I said as being any more abrasive than you. I was merely expressing an opinion, to which you replied directly to me and said you disagree...but then highlighted how you disagreed with something I never said. I replied to your post because it was the latest in a series of posts arguing one position...I tried to make it clear that I was taking the other position and not just disagreeing with you by stating "you guys." Next time I will remember to never reply to your post unless I am addressing it exclusively.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 6, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) Wouldn't be the worst thing for a day off for the team. Peavy, Sale and Danks could sure use more rest it seems. Dunno if this has been mentioned....and I think you might have commented on this in the game thread...I read Peavy is skipping his between starts routine this week...
