  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) Rios has a .785 OPS? WTF? He's looking at pitches really well, too. Although he's still hooking everything.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) Kid looked way too down on the way back to the dugout. That's why I said I'd be really disappointed in Robin if he didn't sit him tomorrow.
  3. I wish I could actually bet on each of his at bats that he would strikeout...
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:55 PM) You know that you'd take a 800K check just as much as I would. In a heartbeat
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) Beckham swinging out of his ass this AB. I like it! He is afraid of Knightni taking his job...
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:49 PM) I always have a secret hope that Rios will be good again. I dont know why. Me too, except mine isn't secret...
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 08:46 PM) Escobar has more immediate upside than Beckham. YOU have more "immediate" upside than Beckham.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) Lillibridge - 3B De Aza - CF Ramirez - SS Dunn - DH Konerko - 1B Viciedo - LF Pierzynski - C Rios - RF Escobar - 2B That works for me. I just don't see the upside you guys seem to see in Escobar.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) Morel's had a great series for the Orioles I can't remember a Sox player I disliked more...
  10. Hard not to start getting a bit excited about Jake!
  11. Ok, Ventura has to get Morel out of there tomorrow or I'm going to really be disappointed with his judgment (not that I think he gives a s***).
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 06:58 PM) The problem there is that we keep those rules because occasionally everyone gets tired of the snark in PHt and we wind up enforcing stronger for a while. And that is even worse, because you are violating your customary standards and reverting to inconsistent enforcement. What is the goal? To have the largest readership possible? Or to have the best discussion possible? Or the best of both worlds? We're all adults here. I'd much rather bear the brunt of a few vile comments for the sake of stimulating and passionate discussion rather than have a s*** and span forum that is bland and emotionless.
  13. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:58 PM) Yeah no one is disputing that You both just questioned why he didn't swing at a pitch outside the zone... Good at bat, Alex!
  14. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:54 PM) Well currently he cant do anything right So you lessen the area you ask him to cover, not increase it.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 06:51 PM) You, of anyone, should know why that doesn't work. So having a bunch that aren't followed, nor enforced, is somehow a better idea? Those rules are violated all over the forum every day. They have been rendered useless because they are too restrictive. The rules should be based on common sense, not some inclusive set of instructions which ultimately result in a chilling of expression so great as to ruin the entire purpose of a message board.
  16. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:49 PM) The strikeout Peavy had before this inning wasnt in the zone. Gordon should have known. No. I want him to focus on swinging at the pitches that are strikes first. He's got enough of a problem hitting those pitches. If he gets called out a few times because an ump doesn't call the zone correctly, so be it.
  17. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) I'm sorry...but protect the damn zone. Close enough when you're a .103 hitter. That ball wasn't in the zone. If he swings and misses you're going to complain that he's chasing.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:41 PM) And IMO, it happened on the very first page. Let's be honest, if we're going to go by the letter of those rules, the debate will be bland, humorless, and not mentally stimulating for anyone. Change the rules...
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 06:37 PM) It has always been our goal to stand as a group. A lot of that comes out where people came from before here where the perception was that people were routinely suspended for essentially personal grudges of individual admins/mods. It has always been our goal to interfere as little as possible and to keep the discussion as respectful as possible. It isn't an easy balance. There have been times where I have wanted to drop the hammer, when others didn't and vice versa. A solid discussion ensues about the specific instance and a decision is made as a group. If it makes it out the moderation team, there is always a good reason for whatever we decide. I promise you that much. I can honestly say while we may argue internally about specific decisions, it has worked well for the site as a whole. I will say this much about the Martin thread, the edited post wasn't the only one that brought up discussion. I'd venture to say everyone who posted in the thread violated the letter and intent of the filibuster rules at some point. The letter and intent are a bit unrealistic.
  20. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:33 PM) The ball was over Chavez' head virtually...Peavy would have been just liable to hang a waste off-speed pitch. Peavy is throwing too many fastballs, but I had no problem with that pitch in particular. That's a swing and miss most of the time. But if he knows a fastball is coming, he's got an exponentially better chance of hitting it, no matter the location. The odds of him hitting a hanger are a lot less if all he's seen are fastballs. Alex with a 6-game hitting streak.
  21. QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ Apr 18, 2012 -> 07:29 PM) Not much you can do about that... Yeah there is....don't throw exclusively fastballs.
