Tyler Colvin impaled by flying bat fragment, hospitalized
iamshack replied to Balta1701's topic in The Diamond Club
As AHB said, I've been waiting for this to happen, and knew it would take a player being impaled before they even bothered to look at the situation. They honestly need to ban maple bats. Pretty sad that this has been allowed to go on for so long. -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) They made the Cowboys burn two timeouts. As a 'boys fan, that hurts big time. Because as soon as that happened, the Cowboys had to throw everything to the sidelines. It took away half the field. I understand. I am not arguing that the Cowboys ever had a good chance to win the game after we went up 10 points. What I'm arguing is I think they could have avoided ever even giving the Cowgirls the ball back had they just been slightly less conservative. As I said, moot point. Bears win.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) That might be conservative, but it's a 2-possession game for Dallas so you can do that. Yeah, I get that. About 7 people have pointed that out. All I'm trying to point out is that I think there are some plays in the passing game that are every bit as safe but far more likely to actually achieve a first down and be able to actually take some significant time off the clock rather than just give the ball back to them two minutes later.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) That is running out the clock. You waste two minutes and they waste a few timeouts. They need two scores and there's not much time left. That's how you do it. Sorry, but running the clock out is actually running some sizeable chunk of the clock off, not running the ball for no gain three times and taking the minimal amount of time off the clock without it stopping.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) I have an urge to start dragging up posts about how awful this team is and how they're going 4-12, but I'll decline. I'll admit I was wrong about them. I admitted that after seeing them last week. It was very evident to me last week that both sides of the ball were much improved from a season ago, and the offense was going to be as good as it has ever been here in Chicago.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) But if there's an incomplete pass, the clock stops. So the chances of a TO are probably pretty similar...but the chances of a clock stopping is much higher. As are the chances of making a first down and being able to run the clock out...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) A ball gets tipped at the line upwards and that's an INT. The odds of something like that happening are no greater than a botched handoff or a fumble.
-
It's a moot point now. Great win, Bears!

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) With this o-line, you risk having Jay get stripped or pressured and throwing a pick. I don't care if we had to punt, it was the right call. Not with short passes you don't.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) I have no issues with trying to run the clock out with a 2 possession lead. The issue is that we can't run the ball. There is no hope of running the clock out. What you're doing is saying we are willing to trade 2 minutes coming off the clock for possession of the ball. I'd rather use safe passes and at least have some hope of making a first down. The reward by far outweighs the small risk in my opinion, considering the odds of making a first down on the ground are about 10 %.

Still too conservative for my taste.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Tennessee has 7 turnovers today. They pulled Vince Young after a couple picks and a fumble, and Kerry Collins has now had 2 TO's in 3 possessions. Good gravy...I was wondering how they could be struggling so badly with a Steelers team now on their third quarterback.

If Mike Martz is on Facebook, I will be "liking" him.
-
I love it that we are not trying to just run the ball here. Keep going with what works, running game be damned.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) Forte's just not a good runner. He's a great receiver out of the backfield at least. Taylor needs to be used more for all "goal line" situations. Agreed with the bolded.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) Yeah I mean I'll take the 15 yards but I don't think that was really a penalty I don't know what league you've been watching for the last few years then...
-
What the hell was that, Hester? He makes a block and that is a huge play there. Instead he either just whiffed or didn't know the ball went to Forte.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 01:32 PM) For a college team to be up 6 on an NFL team at halftime...well, we just have to marvel at the miracles of youth I guess. It really did at first, Balta. I know you like to keep Fathom honest, but this time he wasn't being that ridiculous...we somehow made adjustments to stymie their rush and it's a completely different game. DJ Moore just happens to be in the perfect spot on two pass drops by their receivers.

Pretty ecstatic about things after those first few series...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) Maybe the answer is that they actually can't get to Cutler without the extra blitzer. Ware appears able to get to Cutler by himself, let alone any other rushers...
-
WTF is it with all the hamstring injuries? Do we not freaking stretch before the game?
-
It appears the Cowboys are getting a bit greedy...
-
I think the 5 of us in here could block better than these assholes.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) The Bears Oline is unbelievably bad. Thanks for valuing that position Angelo. f***ing horrendous. These guys just appear to be blatantly stupid.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) How in the hell do you miss such a flagrant facemask? The same way Forte misses that blitz pickup?
