  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2010 -> 01:53 AM) Jimenez vs Lincecum at 3:05 on MLB Network. If that doesn't get you horny, buy some viagra (yes, I know that was lame as hell). You guys get the point, though. Lincecum was woefully inept last start, and has struggled in his last two starts. His last start, he refused to even check the runners on base before he pitched. I'm sure he'll come to play, but I expect Jimenez to outshine him somewhat easily.
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 31, 2010 -> 12:29 AM) I agree with this completely. And me not ruling out sending Beckham and Quentin down isn't to give up on them but hopefully spark something, change something, have something positive happen. It really can't be any worse than them get their asses handed to them day after day by MLB pitching (if that continues to happen), can it? I guess the only way it gets worse is if they suck in Charlotte as well, but I don't see that happening. I wouldn't be against sending Beckham down, mainly as a confidence-booster. I advocated such a move about 3 weeks ago. Quentin, on the other hand, I don't think that would help. I think he has been around the minor leagues enough to not really benefit much from even incredibly success. I would prefer he realize what kind of hitter he will become right here and right now.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 31, 2010 -> 01:30 AM) Anyone up for an awesome Jayson Nix-James Shields feud? You might just get it. "Shields was miffed when he saw Nix flip his bat in the sixth inning, and he threw the next pitch high and tight to Alexei Ramirez. "This guy is doing a bat-flip, kind of pimping the home run a little bit," said Shields, the cousin of former Sox outfielder Aaron Rowand. "That's just sometimes the way it happens. I guess when you hit a game-winning grand slam, I guess you can do that." http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...omparisons.html What a crybaby. Jason rarely gets to play, especially against right handers. He has a great at bat, hits a freaking Grand Slam to put his team back in the lead after the Rays had just tied the game, and he's not allowed to throw the bat down when he crushes a pitch into the seats? Get over yourself, James.
  4. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 31, 2010 -> 12:22 AM) Rios is a completely different story considering we are stuck with his large contract. When you take on someone like Rios and his contract, you are either sinking or sailing with him. Luckily, we are sailing right now (although I'm not totally oppossed to trading him if we can get an insane package back, mainly because there is always the bust factor with Rios, IMO). The point is that 95% of the time, people like you, me, Greg...we have NO IDEA whether a guy is capable of turning things around or whether all is lost. All we can do is trust what a guy's body of work says.
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 31, 2010 -> 12:53 AM) 1989 - No big surprise. His first cup of coffee in the majors, lots of players struggle. 1990 - First full season in the majors. Had it's up and downs. No where as nearly as bad as Beckham has been this year. He at least hit .250 and had a fantastic K:BB ratio for his first full season 1991 - The Beginning to something great. Really, not the greatest example, IMO. Ventura's progressions are no different than many players before and after him. The main difference is that Venture "PROGRESSED", Beckham has "REGRESSED" thus far. I'm not saying it's a terrible idea to let Beckham continue facing major league pitching, but the idea of sending him down shouldn't be dimissed. At some point you gotta draw the line. Just like we should have drawn the line with Rios, Greg?
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 30, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) I'm not saying it should be done, but ignoring and dismissing the possibility is sily. another 2 weeks or so of being two of the worst hitters in the majors, and they will probably need to be sent down. No way around it. You yourself admitted we have no one to replace them. If that is the case, where is the "need" to shut them down?
  7. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 30, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) I understand that, but the point remains the same. You don't produce in the big leagues, you don't get to play in the big leagues. This is a great test to see how they rebound. Sending messages doesn't normally work when those they are being sent to have no ability respond to them.
  8. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 30, 2010 -> 10:28 PM) I'd like to see pitchers start challenging Rios with high fastballs away. I wonder if he can handle them with his hands so low. If I recall, pitchers were killing him with low pitches last year when he had his hands high. My guess is he would simply take them.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 30, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) He hasn't proved s***. Yeah, he showed he can hit the ball first time through the league, but he hasn't been able to adjust at all to the new way pitchers are pitching him. Personally, I'm not oppossed to sending him and Quentin (if he's got options left) down. Batting sub .200 at the major league level as an everyday player for 2 months is unacceptable. Even if we have no one better to replace them, hopefully it sends a message to them and tells them what they are doing now is unacceptable. If they are too fragile mentally to handle being sent down when they are sucking, they don't belong in the majors to begin with. This seems incredible for you to post, considering how badly they appear to want to improve. Obviously neither of us are there, but all accounts I have read is that both of them are extremely hard workers. I don't think there are two guys in the organization that think their performance is more unacceptable that Gordon and Carlos.

Shoulders and Arms today. Boy, am I a wimp.
  11. I think the Angels would part with Trumbo...I think the bigger problem is getting Kenny to part with Konerko this early in the season.
  12. QUOTE (Real @ May 30, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) I guess, perhaps people who don't have a realistic vision on what's needed to actually catch up to the twins might take a split A split w/ the Rays would mean something if we were tied with the Twins or maybe a couple games out, but we're flirting with 6-8 games back. When you get to that kind of deficit, you can't say "Well I'll take a split", because .500 isn't good enough when you're in that kind of hole. This team dug itself into an early grave and splitting 4 game series and going win/loss/win/loss/win/loss/loss/loss/win/loss all year isn't going to do s***. I think some people need to think more realistic about what kind of situation the Sox are in, they absolutely HAVE to play .600+ ball the rest of the year to, IMO, even stand a chance at winning the division flame away No, I agree with this. I'm one of the few who likes this roster, but I'll admit, it's time to put up or shut up. Splitting series is not acceptable if we expect to get back into the race. We need to start beating teams, even if they are teams we are not necessarily supposed to beat, if we do indeed want to get ourselves back in this race. A split to me was disappointing.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 30, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) What team have you been watching? Every time we win a game, i hear this, and then we lost the next one. We're the very definition of mediocre. We can't keep holding on to the past, and losing sight of the future. Eventually, we're going to have to let Paulie go. That's what happens when your starting pitching is incredibly inconsistent. The offense has improved over the course of the past 2-3 weeks. Now the starting pitching has to start performing like they are capable of. I just don't think the Angels are going to offer Kenny anything enticing enough to make him take a big bat away from his own team this early in the season. Maybe down the road, but not right now.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 30, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) No one wants to mention Jayson Nix? Well, i'll do it. JAYSON f***ING NIX!!!!! Also, those back to back great defensive plays by Vizquel and Pierre were a joy to see. We were all holding off so you could do it, TBolt!
  15. It's a nice win, but I can't help but feel that we should be coming home with a better result than this. We've got to start making a move and getting back in this thing, not treading water. The bats are starting to come alive, now we just need the SP to get their act together and we'll be rolling a bit.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 29, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) At one point in time (and maybe it's still true) I believe there had been more no-hitters thrown in MLB history than players hitting for the cycle. Yes indeed it is. There may even be less cycles than perfect games - I can't recall which it is, no-hitters or perfect games that the cycle is more rare than.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 29, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) We're making it interesting here What happened?
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) 8-5 Rays on a wild pitch scoring Konerko How did he get to third? Did Kotsay get a hit? Oh, fly ball.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) Konerko double plates Rios, 8-4 Rays. How about Kotsay walks and Q hits another bomb...
  20. Anyone seen the kind of year Miguel Olivo is having? The man was built to play in Colorado...
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 08:18 PM) Phillies game to the 9th, change it if you can. Stuck at work...just happy I can watch the Hawks.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) Hey, Randy Williams got out of that inning. Of course he does when we're down 8-2. But god forbid he does it in a close game.
  23. Would be incredible to have two perfectos in the span of 3 weeks or whatever it has been...
