QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 18, 2017 -> 08:40 PM) I love how hoiberg rewards Portis huge game and mirotic atrocious play by playing mirotic even more I support it. Portis looked like crap in his minutes. 3 fouls including a tech. Niko was/is hitting shots and rebounding

#playoffrondo. I know Wade is being guarded by Bradley and Avery, two good defenders, but he looks ooollllddddd.

And they gave it right back

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 05:40 PM) If it's settled out or court, we will likely not find out. NDA, etc. I'll go with $3-5 million total between all three entities being sued so far. https://www.overlawyered.com/2006/09/the-bu...king-that-isnt/ Let's not forget the case of the UK burglar who fell through the skylight in the middle of breaking into a high school...fell through, sued the school and light manufacturer, and ended up with nearly $1 million in lifetime benefits. He had "terrible injuries." This United guy didnt.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) The average 9/11 family ended up with $3 million or so. Why are you equating the death of a family member with egregious conduct that resulting in pretty minor injuries? And did that money come from an actual lawsuit? Or were those private donations/public funds set up for the families? None of this is really relevant to the damages he sustained. Whether he was outed by public news channels is not United or the City of Chicago's fault (and I believe that's all public info that was true, so he has no claim against the various news agencies). I think there's still an open question as to whether United acted legally or not. s***ty? Absolutely. But illegal? I don't know the answer to that. Nah, it really won't. Not in the ballpark you're imagining. And again, if that did happen, the judge or an appeals court would lower that verdict. Don't disagree with this.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) Oh I 100% agree, a million or two would be a pretty realistic settlement. I just find it comical that anyone thinks this guy deserves a nine figure settlement under any scenario. I sure hope I don't get you on some of my juries, unless i'm representing a plaintiff! As a matter of perspective, keep in mind that victims of sex abuse by priests get 1-3 million. Excessive force claims are all over the road, but $100k-$300k for minor injuries is common. I'll stick with what I said a few days ago - this will settle for way less than a million unless there's some decent evidence that he sustained a more serious injury, like brain damage (unlikely).

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 02:35 PM) I'm going to guess he meant the heat but even then Bosh is unlikely at this point of his struggles. Maybe there is some walking corpse veteran they had on their bench I forgot about that could be HOF. 11 All Stars and multiple rings. Not sure there is a doubt with him, even if his playing days were cut short.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) 4? I know you ain't sayin' Rondo is a HOF? No, on the Heat in that series with the Nets: Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Allen.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) I enjoyed the first game, I really did, but it is so hard for me to genuinely like this team when I know I have hated them the entire season. I have hated the coaching, their attitude, the FO, ownership, the trades made, the trades they didnt make, the inconsistency, the effort, the style of play, the media relations, and everything in between. My fan sensibility is telling me to buy in like I always do and be behind them all out but I feel like I need to draw the line this time. I'm in the same boat, however, playing the spoiler to Boston trumps all that.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 01:54 PM) Yeah, but that team had 4 Hall of Famers. This Boston team blows.

This will be in a textbook if the Bulls lose. What a choke job.
-
Jesus, how can that be overturned?

It's impressive they've rebounded so well without Taj. Porter and Lopez have been good. This wouldn't be a game if Good Mirotic showed up.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) Here we go... Also this is a chancery filing. They're going to ask for some kind of equitable relief in this case, not money damages.
-
Lol, you guys crack me up with these settlement figures. So out of touch with reality. 100+ million? That's insanity. This will settle for less than 500k, and even then you're banking on United or the City not wanting to get into a PR battle 5 years from now (i.e., when the public has forgotten about this). No way it sniffs a million. There's just not enough damage there. If it eventually does go to trial and a jury awards tens of millions, that award will be reduced post-trial. The damages are just not significant enough (unless they can establish some traumatic brain injury). And liability against United is questionable. It was their decision to remove him, but they will pass blame to the City for the manner in which he was removed.

His attorney is Thomas Demetrio, one of the biggest PI lawyers in town. I'm sure this guy was sent to specific doctors immediately.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) Maybe oversaturation of shootings? People get desensitized when it's a headline seemingly every other day. See also: Violence, Chicago

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) EARLY GAME MILITARY UNITS - GET THEM Yeah, good old civilization. In my first game, 15 turns in, the closest country declares war out of the blue. Some things never change...

Finally broke down and bought Civ 6 today. Excited to play it tonight.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) Sounds like Underwood has yet to contact anyone from Simeon, Morgan Park, Curie, or Young as of yet. Not a good sign, but may be understandable if he's scrambling for 2017 guys. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) I kinda wish S-town and Serial didn't do a big dump of episodes. That was really fun with serial figuring stuff out with everyone. Now it may eventually lead to a " I listened to that as well, where are you at" "oh, not finished yet? Certainly enjoyable" "Yes, enjoyable" I give it a B-. Too many red herrings at the beginning. Still an entertaining listen about an interesting guy, but the mystery/suspense stuff was unnecessary and it made the ending weak. Not to mention the title doesn't make much sense to me. It's a tangential topic in the grand scheme of the story.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) "he fell" Ha, they forgot the part where the guy got loose and then ran back on to the plane.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) If they were overbooked, why even board the plane? It's a lot harder to get 4 people to volunteer once they're seated on the plane. Completely botched all the way around, I've been in that situation a few times. On the plane, ready to go and suddenly they look for volunteers. My guess is at the last minute they find out they need crew members at another airport and they realize that specific flight is the fastest route to get there. My wife and I debated taking the offer once. It would have required an overnight stay in Houston, but they were offering 2 free flights anywhere in the lower 48 (for each of us). I was too worried there would be all sorts of restrictions attached, like black out dates or whatever, so we decided against it.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 10:21 AM) Seems like there has to be more to it. Seems odd they would drag a volunteer off the flight. He didn't volunteer, he was chosen randomly. United's PR team did a horrible job drafting their statement. And obviously United's management team at the airport did a horrible job dealing with this situation. It really should be illegal for airlines to overbook flights, but every airline does it. You would think for the money they have to shell out as compensation for those "volunteers," they would be better off just not overbooking the flight to begin with.

So keeping Walker was a waste apparently.
