  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) Piper says Porter to Missouri likely (duh) and they'll go after Jamal Walker hard. Says illinois has its guy and it's a splash. Doesn't seem to know who it is though. Was that on the premium board? I didn't see him say that on twitter
  2. Lol, Missouri/Martin throw out a rumor that he turned down an $18 million dollar offer from Illinois. Within 5 seconds every beat writer/insider on the Illini called him out on it since no offer was ever extended. Gotta love the PR game. Sounds like Illinois was pretty high on him a few months ago but that cooled significantly.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) There is one weird thing being buzzed about with Rivals and Gabe Dearmond - That with Romar's tenuous hold on Washington, Michael Porter Jr. may be back in play. Seems like a pipe dream. One thing different about Mizzou compared to U of I. Our AD made early overtures that they wanted an established power con coach after the Kim Anderson experience. So our top 5 probably did look different. Another thing: - It seems really dumb to let it be known how much you want to spend, because then when you get turned down the next guy on the list knows you were prepared to go higher for the other guy, and it wasn't good enough. Leads to price inflation really quick. Not thrilled about this as a Mizzou fan, but, after Kim Anderson, I mean. Man he was bad. No sense in nickel and diming it. If you've got the money, spend it. Donors like Shahid Khan don't care about an extra million here or there.
  4. Jeff Goodman is reporting the Martin deal is SEVEN years.
  5. QUOTE (gatnom @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) Obviously the usual caveats about internet rumors apply, but this is something that's been floating around: WANT WANT WANT WANT WANT.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) So out of nowhere, my dog, who will be 7 in May, has become so lethargic in the house. He's eating normal and when we go outside, he's his normal self. In the house, he used to run up the steps and jump on the furniture to lay down. This weekend, he would gingerly go up and down the steps and last night, he tried jumping on the couch to lay down, but couldn't. He has had arthritis problems in one paw last year but meds cleared it up. I'm going to make vet appointment but was just out of nowhere. Yeah, definitely get to the Vet ASAP. Could be a number of things, including issues with his heart or kidneys. Our almost 12 year old Boston went through something similar in the last few months. She started to go downhill the last 6 months or so. Lethargic, not really eating (she is the type to beg for food constantly and sit at her bowl waiting to be fed), didn't move around well, slept a lot more. We chalked it up to old age. Then she started to gain weight to the point that she looked super bloated. After a couple of weeks of seeing her get progressively worse, we took her in. Turned out she's got some advanced cardiovascular disease and her heart, lungs and liver were all nearly twice the size they should be. Her body was retaining fluid like crazy. They drained her and put her on some heart meds. The vet thought she'd last 2 weeks but it's been over a month and she's back to how she was a year ago. It's been an amazing change. A week after we had the issue with the dog, our cat died. The most random thing ever. My entire family is in the kitchen as we're preparing dinner. The cat, an 8 year old, so relatively young, walks around the middle of the kitchen floor and falls to the ground on its side. We thought he was just begging for food/attention like he normally would, but after about 5 seconds we noticed he wasn't moving at all. My wife said she thought he died and I checked him and sure enough, he was dead. I shook him a few times and checked to make sure that his throat wasn't blocked but he was gone. No choking or convulsing or struggling to breath or anything. He must have had a stroke or a massive heart attack in the middle of the floor and we all watched it happen. Really strange.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) Wow this is brutal for the 55-65 age people, a group that was hit very hard from recession and forced into early retirements. Isn't that a huge voting bloc too? So odd that they'd do this to a very "vocal" part of the electorate.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) I don't get it. Whenever I watch Valentine, I see a guy who has flashed more then Jerian Grant has ever flashed. I'm glad he's starting to get minutes, because he actually can pass. But man, this Bulls team is playing awful. I am curious if anything happens in the off-season. I may not have been okay moving Butler, but I green lighted moving everyone else and am okay playing young guys and sucking for the time being, because hitting on any of those young guys will be critical. In the limited chance I've watched him, Payne looks terrible. KC Johnson made the point a few days ago - how can any of these guys start to gain confidence/momentum when Hoiberg is playing 10-11 guys a game? If you really want to see the young guns, play them.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 12, 2017 -> 11:07 AM) I am anything but an Illinois fan. It is hard to find stuff from five years ago, but this is something. We are now up to six coaches with no interest from the same coaching search. And retrospect isn't valid here. It is how coaches view the Illinois job in the moment, not if Smart made the right choice. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/03/21/hog...is-turn-to-now/ Hamilton, no interest. Collins wanted NW, would have interest in IL if nothing else came up. Grant, no interest Wait, where do you get your "no interest" information from? Stevens said no because of the NBA (and in a podcast with Simmons basically said he'd only coach at Butler if he ever went back, which he won't) and Shaka said no for whatever reason and then decided to go Texas. Everything else is rumor. Who was the guy that repeatedly would come out and say he wasn't interested in the Illinois job even though Illinois had no interest in him? Are you including him in that list of 6?? Groce was a hot name at the time he was hired. He was on the short list of many schools. He had just taken his mid-major program to the sweet sixteen and was about 10 seconds away from beating North Carolina to get to the elite eight. He had great ties to the Big Ten (OSU) and was known as a good recruiter, which he basically proved. I was thrilled with his hire. I thought it was an excellent choice. Thomas did the right thing going for the home run and he didn't get it so he hit a double to the gap instead. Illinois is a top 25 job. Period. 10 years ago it was a top 10 job. If you don't believe that you're just a hater.
  10. I'm probably 14-15 hours in at this point and have done nothing of significance other than getting off the grand plateau and uncovering the "main" quest line. I'm having too much fun getting lost on side treks/exploring new areas. Other than the wonky controls, my only other complaint is the fact that your weapons degrade and break. I would have preferred you just get awesome weapons, or if they are going to degrade, make it a skill or an option in town to fix them. I go through weapons too fast. I read that later in the game weapons last a lot longer. I hope that's true.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 13, 2017 -> 07:26 AM) You were lucky. My middle child was a scheduled sleeper, done at 8-830, up around 6-6:30, naps around 10 and 2. My youngest, nope. We did the exact same things with him, he just refused naps. The best we could do is get him to snooze 10-20 minutes, wouldn't sleep in his crib or bassinet, only wanted to sleep next to mom. It was maddening I'm in the same boat. My first was an amazing sleeper. 7:30pm-7am like clockwork with a 2-3 hour nap midday. My second (9 months) sleeps from about 8 to 5:30-6. Can't get him to sleep past that. And he refuses to take naps. Our daycare is lucky if he takes two 20-30 minute power naps during the day. He doesn't get to the point of being over tired. He just doesn't want (need?) to sleep.
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) Nice white collar win. Whatever it takes I guess. Words from a sub-par player on a sub-par team.
  13. QUOTE (gatnom @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) Word on the street is that assistant coach Jamall Walker has the keys to Tilmon. So, if the new coach retains him, it's possible that Illinois could hold on to Tilmon. Hard to say what a guy like Frazier would do. No one associated with this coaching staff should stay, regardless of the recruits they can or can't keep. This program needs a full on rebuild. I want no stink left on the program from this terrible staff. It wasn't just the lack of development, it was the complete no shows time after time after time. They just had 2 play in, must win games and they couldn't get up for either of them. That's pathetic and directly attributable to the coaching staff. Either they can't coach or the players have tuned them out. Either way, they all have to go.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Supposed to really struggle at recruiting Well I definitely don't want that.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) Bryce isn't going anywhere. Not overly impressed by him anyways Really? Didn't he take Valpo to like 4 straight tournaments? edit: 2 out of 4 with 4 league titles. Hey, better than Groce!
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) Bryce just got his big deal at Vandy for the start of this season. He isn't going anywhere for a few years. Honestly, I am not sure he would even view Illinois as an upgrade. Illinois has had a bad decade of basketball, but let's not go crazy here. It's still a top 25-30 job. It's definitely a jump up from Vanderbilt. Plus he doesn't have a great recruiting class coming in. The buyout may be pricey, but I don't think money is a problem at Illinois. Too many pissed off and eager alumni that want the basketball program to be back in the top 10-15 nationally like it was for the better part of the 90's and 00's.
  17. Ah ok. Not sure there is a guy like that in college bball. I wouldn't mind Bryce Drew. He did a decent job at Valpo. Roger Powell was or still is his assistant. Maybe you can get Scott to come instead to get away from the impending Baylor implosion. edit: i guess Monty Williams fits the criteria of out of the box. NBA lifer who has never coached at the college level or recruited.
  18. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) That makes sense. Maybe Whitman can make an "out of the park" hire. Not likely. The program is in such s***ty state, and you're going to have better programs like Indiana competing for the same candidates. I'd love to throw a guy like Greg Marshall a dump truck's worth of money, but that's not happening. I liked the Hoiberg idea, but I think it's a year too early for that.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 9, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) Didn't Groce just have his best recruiting class? If he is launched are they firmly committed? I think Frazier has publicly stated that they should not fire him, which isn't quite a threat to not come to campus. It would be tough for those guys to sit out a year if they aren't given releases. But yeah, hopefully whoever they hire can convince them to stay.
  20. 26-11. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. God I hope he's fired at 2pm.
  21. I'm SHOCKED that the team that was almost involved in a horrific plane crash and had to adjust their schedules and take an early flight to DC with no practice time came out with more energy/efficiency than a Groce-led team. SHOCKED.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) You know what I don't like...how Quinn didn't "fully recover" from last years injuries. I wish he was still the badass he always was. He clearly still has some of the smarts, but he was one of the most badass characters on TV and now he's so hindered. Note: I'm referring to homeland. Wow, that show is still on? I gave up after last season. Or I think it was last season. Shoot, I don't even remember what happened anymore. Carrie tried to kill a terrorist in a crowd but he was driven away at the last second, and I think some American was in the car with him? Zzzzzzz..... Here's a good recommendation: Black Sails on Starz. Caught up on Season 3 last month and they just started Season 4 a few weeks ago. Some sweet pirate action in that one. Really dig it.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) 6 games. I over estimated. Eh, about on par with my PS4 purchases. The only reason I have more PS4 games is I usually get every other version of The Show and Madden. Do Sony and Microsoft really have 6-7 must-have exclusive games? No. edit: i'm not trying to argue Nintendo is better. I much prefer my PS4. But Nintendo is what it is at this point and I know that going in. If you got duped by the Wii or Wii U that's on you. They've been in the "we only care about our properties and don't care to compete for big name titles" corner since the Gamecube.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 8, 2017 -> 01:15 PM) Nintendo guy gonna Nintendo guy. Enjoy the 7 games they make that actually don't suck before the system dies and they launch some weird new concept in 5 years and put out 7 games that don't suck etc. etc. I thought I'd learned my lesson with the Wii and then I got a 3DS. Same story. Here's your Mario game, here's your Zelda game, here's your Mario Kart game, now enjoy a bunch of s***ty third party games. /s***tingonnintendoguy I'm usually a Nintendo hater but... I dropped $250 for a used Wii U a couple years back with the system, the classic controller, Mario Kart, the two Mario platformers, Wind Waker and Pikmin 3. Throw in another $50 for the last Zelda and I think that's $300 well spent.
