2012 Video Game Thread
I'm on nightmare act 3 with a demon hunter. I get killed by any mob bigger than 4-5 guys, so I end up dying a lot. I nearly threw my mouse through the monitor I was so tired of it. I haven't been playing since. They really need to tweak the settings.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 09:29 AM) On the other hand, we have companies like Verizon and Caterpillar laying off workers and fighting to slash wages and benefits while paying out hundreds of millions of dollars collectively to a handful of top executives over the past several years. This is where I step away from my conservative brethren and agree with you evil liberalites. This practice is bulls*** and should not be accepted. I wish society would realize how this system ends up f***ing middle class America much more than they realize. Promoting the American dream/free market to benefit the rich ends up costing the middle more in the long run. The poor don't pay for it, and the rich don't pay for it, so middle class - here's your bill.

The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (G&T @ May 28, 2012 -> 07:46 PM) Spotted Cow is coming up through the sewers around here (not that I'm complaining), but if you have a selection of New Glarus, there's a lot more. The Dancing Man Wheat and Black Top are amazing. The Raspberry Tart is quite good, though pricey. And I have a lot left to try. Then there's Capital Brewing (best maibock I've had), Ale Asylum (Bedlam is the best Belgian IPA I've tasted), Tyranena, and Central Waters....plus I finally have full access to Bells, Founders and 3 Floyds which, for some reason, no one else seems to be drinking. Ah yes...it's a hell of a place. And now I need a job...dammit. A week late....but that's surprising. Here in Chicago that stuff sells out everywhere as soon as it gets delivered. 3 Floyds is some good stuff. Hopefully as they get bigger the quality doesn't drop. Not sure if I should start another thread for this, but anyone brew their own beer? Couple of friends and I are going to start brewing at my place. I'm redoing my basement and plan to build a bar with a kegerator in it so we can all hang out and drink our brew while watching the Sox/Bears/Bulls/Illini. Should be an interesting process.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2012 -> 09:05 AM) If it were easy to prove malfeasance I think people already get sued. I believe I read a note about potential lawsuits against Corzine this morning, for example. Since no one from MF Global is going to jail despite $2 billion+ being stolen, some civil penalties might at the least be nice. Yes but generally those guys are smart enough to act through X corporation, so in the end if they run a Ponzi scheme or something and use up all of the money the victims are screwed. You can't go after them personally (usually, there are exceptions). If Corzine is worth 50 million, guess what, he should be broke after the civil suits are over. That doesn't happen in every case like it should. Union bosses collecting 3 pensions should have to give that up and if they've screwed over their union members they should be made to pay out of their own pockets. Especially when these guys are lining their own pockets with money by doing their fraudulent/negligent acts. We hold doctors and lawyers to an incredibly high standard, but I feel like business execs are not.

This is why I'm in favor of civil penalties for making terrible business decisions. Why do we hold doctors and lawyers to a different standard of responsibility than CEO's and CFO's or Union Chiefs or politicians. If you can show that X person did something outside of the reasonable standard of care in his/her industry, and you were damaged because of it, sue their asses for $.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 08:29 PM) I personally do not suggest ever letting a stranger on the street touch your pet. They are always the people that get bit by a dog and then want money or for the dog to be put down. If they want to have fun with an animal, they can get their own. Lawyered!

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 05:36 PM) lmao. It's people like you that make me appreciate LeBron James so much more. So because those Pistons, as you say, aren't the 2012 Spurs, it's somehow less impressive. Guess what? LeBron didn't have Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka back in '07 when he was leading a severely under-manned Cavs team to the finals. LeBron is putting up numbers that rival any of Jordan's best playoff runs. And he's doing it with basically no help. Wade looks like '06 Wade for a couple games, then for others he looks old, broken down and tired. No Bosh for the last 2 rounds. Support players that you never know what you're going to get out of them. But wait, unless LeBron takes and make a game-winner (and he's done that plenty of times), he's no Durant. Please. Again: please. Stop assuming I'm calling Lebron a s***ty player. I'm taking the 2nd best player in the game over him if i'm starting a franchise. ZOMG! How terrible!

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) Yeah, it's not like he single-handedly beat the Pistons down 3-2 in the conference finals by scoring 29 of his team's last 30 points or anything. Oh wait... The Pistons weren't the 2012 Spurs. And how many times has he disappeared in the 4th quarter of important games? Not just had a bad game, but disappeared, refused to shoot the ball, refused to take big shots? How many times does he rely on chucking up 20 foot fall away jump shots that he misses more often than he makes. I said he was the best all around player in the game. I'd just take Durant at this point. He's stronger mentally, isn't a self-centered ass, and he's younger. Oh, and he can play basketball pretty good too.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) I don't really see why it would change. LeBron is far and away the best player in the NBA. Just because he refused to chuck up a double-teamed jumper doesn't change this. In fact, it only further confirms it. Because Lebron doesn't have the mental make-up to take over games like Durant just did and it's being proven over and over again. Durant scored 18 pts in the fourth despite everything the Spurs did. Lebron would never do that. He'd choose to let someone else try and win the game. Would you rather have Lebron or Durant with the ball needing a bucket to win a game? I'm going with Durant.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) Kristen Stewart is obviously boring. But you're going to tell me that Chris Hemsworth, Bob Hoskins, Ian McShane, Nick Frost, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, and Ray Winstone are boring (and I'm guessing bad as well because they couldn't "convince you they were cold")? Does Ian McShane act like the Ian McShane playing Al Swearingen minus the cuss words? I've seen him in 3 productions post-Deadwood and he's the same character (Pillars of the Earth, that TV show Kings and Pirates 4)

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 11:36 AM) You're right, if you include January 2009 for Obama, unemployment has gotten "worse" under his Presidency. If you use February 2009, it's improved ever-so-slightly. Do you think there's anything that anyone could have done starting on 1/2/09 to prevent U3 from reaching 10% in late 2009? Spending a year on passing legislation for job/economic growth instead of health care?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:01 AM) He gets alot of call though. With that size I would just bully my way in there to the basket, much high percentage. Officials rarely bail guys out at the end of games though. Around the basket at the end of games is a free for all. You basically have to deck someone to get a call. I mean, I agree he should be driving to at least get a better look. But a jump shot is probably the highest percentage shot he's going to get. And has this postseason finally shown that Lebron isn't the greatest of all time like he thinks he is? If i'm starting a team today I take Durant over Lebron. Yes, Lebron is a better defender and all around player. But Durant is becoming the Jordan/Kobe, unstoppable offensive force that you need to win championships. Lebron can average 40/10/10 but you know 90% of those stats come in quarters 1-3. When was the last time Lebron scored 16 straight points in the 4th quarter of a conference finals game? When was the last time he just took over and could not be stopped no matter what you threw at him?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:55 AM) Where's the double-speak? How on earth is it fair to hold Obama accountable for unemployment losses from December 2007-January 2009? On what standard is jenks' claim that "unemployment has gotten worse under Obama" actually true, even if you use January 20th, 2009 as the starting point? ? In Jan 2009 u3 was less than 8%. In May 2012 it's at 8.3%. How is that not worse? That's 2 years after the recession started. Yes, obviously that's the 07-08 recession affecting the 09 numbers, but nothing is better in terms of unemployment in Obama's presidency. Having things get worse and then getting them back down isn't "better" from where he started.
-
Financial News
Hey all I was pointing to was that unemployment hasn't gotten any better under Obama. It's gotten worse. Yes, he inherited a s***ty economy, but he has done nothing to improve that situation in almost 4 years. I'm also a huge fan of Obama taking credit for what Bush started - the auto bailout. So...he gets it both ways. s***ty job market = "Bush's fault." Auto industry rebounding - "I did it all!"

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 09:10 AM) Why does Lebron insist on trying to set up fade away jumpers at the end of games instead of bullying his way to the basket? Because he knows that he probably won't get a foul called with seconds remaining in the game.

QUOTE (juddling @ May 31, 2012 -> 09:09 PM) Finished 2/3 of The Hatfields vs. McCoys and so far it's been pretty entertaining. As far as i can tell it's been fairly accurate as well. I think if it wasn't for the uncle on the Hatfield's side (the always excellent Tom Berringer) the feud might have died early. I finished all three. Great series IMO. I'm tempted to go buy a book about the whole feud and read up on it now.

Hmm, I must be in the minority. I thought this episode of Mad Men was one of the "worst" of the season. The Lane portion of the episode was good - a bit sudden, but good. Perfect way to tie up the embezzlement angle. The Sallie stuff was a bore, and borderline inappropriate. Why did we need to see that? Gross. I guess we'll see about the Dow pitch, but that seemed way too preachy to me. Are 3-4 incredibly rich guys leading one of the world's biggest companies going to be impressed with someone that scolds them for being too complacent? Seems like a stretch. Also, can anyone tell if Sallie's friend is supposed to be weird or does the actor just suck? So stiff with every line.

Why not just crate her all day? People thank that's abusive, but dogs prefer a safe den if they have to be alone. Especially as young dogs.
