  1. I agree. I think my one big gripe last night is that Nagy was too conservative to start the game. I think if they come out and play their typical varied offense (like in the 2nd half) they win easy. But for some reason, maybe to play safe with Mitch, they were super conservative. The Eagles using a spy really helped them, as did Mitch's hammy tweak or whatever he had, but if they had gone vertical more to start I think that would have opened up more of the running game.
  2. The eagles linebackers have some serious speed. I honestly don't know if Cohen would have been very effective.
  3. Blaming Parkey is the lazy fan response. Everyone deserves a little blame. The last 6 minutes you had the offense blow a chance to ice the game with a long drive (had a quick 3 and out). The defense allowed Foles to march down the field and score a TD. And then Parky kicked the ball too low and/or the line allowed too much pressure so the ball got tipped. Having said that, if there's a better option out there, the Bears need to go another direction. I don't want them to be in this same position next year and have to rely on Parkey under all that pressure.
  4. My conspiracy theorist side wonders if the FBI/DOJ were going to go after Burger King over the McDonald tapes and then BK said, hey wait a minute, you want a bigger fish? I'm also shocked Burke was dumb enough to be the guy on the phone with this stuff. Why not use one of the many crooks that work for him? Either stupidity or hubris. Probably both. I also thought it was interesting that the wire taps came way before the raids on his office (23 guns btw, wtf?). Makes me wonder if more indictments are coming. That dude is connected to everyone in the city.
  5. Seems like small potatoes overall, but illegal nonetheless. I'm sure he's done this sort of thing routinely in his position over the last 50 years.
  6. lol, expecting failure every time is literally the definition of the word. Just admit it man, you're a jaded Chicago fan. It's ok, a lot of us are. We haven't had much to root for recently, so you put a guard up and expect to be disappointed. But at this juncture, 13 games in, I don't know how you can't be a little more optimistic. Are they going to the SB? Doubtful. Are they winning a ring? Extremely doubtful. But who cares? They're good. They're fun to watch. They're in every single game until the final seconds. They haven't lost a game in convincing fashion. It's night and day from last season or really any team since 2010.
  7. Even if the Bears were terrible I still don't think anyone would care. The team is incredibly young and decimated by injuries. Everyone understands they're in the middle of a rebuild and tanking/losing is the best way to get one of the few top guys in this year's draft. That's why firing Hoiberg made no sense to begin with. They were bad, expected to be bad and no one, including fans and the media, cared. GarPax had a hallpass to be awful this year and they decided to embarrass themselves (yet again) instead.
  8. I'm honestly praying this team wins the SB so we can stop talking about that fucking team. They were amazing. They were great. They also had a limited 2-3 year run and didn't win nearly enough to keep talking about them 33+ years later.
  9. It's so great that the Bulls have finally positioned themselves to be good in a few seasons with some young assets and a chance at grabbing one of the 2-3 franchise guys in this draft, but are still stuck with the most dysfunctional front office in the NBA, and possibly all of sports. And now we have a meathead Popovich disciple as our coach (love Pop but he's now the old man screaming get off my lawn as the Warriors usher in a new era of basketball). Fucking sprints? A full practice right after a back to back and three games in four nights? Just to what, prove he's a hardass and won't take lackluster effort? GMAB.
  10. Didn't they fight back in both of those games? The defense made timely plays and the offense marched down the field to score TD's when they needed to. How were those loses not "graceful and with style?" You seem like the type of fan that would still complain about the team not being that good even after winning a championship. Just enjoy the ride! It's been 6 years since they've had an above .500 season. Eight years since the playoffs.
  11. 105 is pretty fucking terrible for a power conference team with Illinois' history.
  12. Also, while I'm fine they got rid of Fred, it's such a stupid strategic move. This season is a disaster. Guys are hurt and/or out for the year. It's a perfect, tailor-made tank season and the reward is a selection of one of the 2-3 possible franchise prospects in the draft. If Fred was such a disaster and no one was listening to him...GOOOOOOD. They were losing at the perfect time! And no one I know cared, nor did any media locally or nationally care. It was a perfect PR tank season. Everyone expected them to be bad and then the injuries made it even worse. I just don't get the move at all. If they start winning games because of this they royally fucked up.
  13. Great, we have a coach whose philosophy doesn't fit the league or where it's going and will "grind it out" while everyone else scores 120 a game.
  14. No chance. Jerry is loving this. They're going to get a high draft pick and then sell fans on the future. If anything GarPax will get promoted and maybe they bring in someone "new" (of course it will be someone in-house) who can be the GM for the public but really all control stays with GarPax.
  15. I'm all about moving on quickly (after this year) if the season continues like this. They have to do something before this spins any further. There's really not an excuse. Yes, they're shorthanded in the front court, but their offense right now consists of passing around the 3 pt line and then shooting contested jumpers. Their defense is beyond horrendous. I'm seeing absolutely no development from guys that were here last year under Underwood - Williams, Nichols and even Frazier. I hate to be down on Ayo so early, but he's clearly not the impact freshman we (or maybe just I) thought he would be. I really thought that with him and Trent they'd be able to hang with some good teams even without any low post presence. I expected them to be an NIT team with a shot at a tourney bid and they're nowhere close to that. Gonzaga was such an aberration...really just 3-4 crazy Frazier threes from losing another game by double digits. But even more concerning is where do they go from here? How is next year going to be any different? If anything it'll be worse because one of their best early season scorers will be gone (Jordan). They still won't have much front court help. Right now their only recruit is a 3/4 star center...so another project that won't be reliable for at least 2 seasons, if ever. They're courting guys like Kofi Cockburn and Terrance Shannon....they aren't going to come to this dumpster fire. Yesterday afternoon was the first game I purposefully avoided watching since, i don't even know when. The mid-90's when I was in grade school? It's so depressing to watch. I thought the tail end of the Weber era - missing the tournament every other year - was going to be the low for the program. Then I thought the end of the Groce era (missing the tourney for 3 straight seasons) was the low. It was so unthinkable. Now, we're on season 6, probably 7 next. They're not just middle of the pack in the conference, they're the worst or second worst program. Illinois has officially become DePaul basketball. Utterly irrelevant.
  16. I love how "we need more energy and spirit" was the reason to get rid of Fred, so they just replace him with a guy whose been sitting on the same bench the last 4 years. I'm sure that same (old) voice will really change things! This organization is such a joke. I'm sure Fred has to be thrilled he got paid 25 million and is now able to leave that disaster behind.
  17. Nichols is so bad. He was the one guy they really needed to make a leap and he's the same dude. Zero development from last year. He's worth five fouls and that's it.
  18. i suppose it's a moral victory, but it looks like they kept it relatively close in the 2nd half and actually had a chance to take the lead in the last minute. Giorgi looks like a steal of a recruit so far.
  19. "wait, what's your name? "did you just ask where I live?" Omg
  20. It's hilarious that Walton is oblivious to it too. I can't believe he's still on TV. He somehow got worse the last 10 years.
  21. Great drive. So much improvement from Mitch since week one. And great play calling by Nagy.
  22. It's been such a pathetic downfall. I was literally pacing around my house that entire Georgetown game. An unranked, middle of the pack team in a not nearly as strong as it used to be Big East. That's a team that from 1996-2006 we would have beat by 15+ (especially at home). And it's so f'n easy to make the tournament these days. .500 in the Big Ten. That's basically all it takes. 7th or 8th place. And it's been 5 years now. Only 3 out of the last 10. So bad.
  23. I was underwhelmed by Underwood's first year. I expected better. Talent wasn't championship-level, but it was better-than-.500 level. Finke, Leron Black, Trent, Mark Smith, Da'Monte, etc. Those are 4 star, top 100 guys. Yeah, some maybe didn't fit the system, two were young, etc. etc. but I still came down to pretty shitty execution, especially on the offensive end. The default is always to blame the "culture" and the roster. We went through this with Groce too. Groce would still be the coach if Snyder didn't de-commit on signing day. I'm convinced that would have created at least 2-3 years of consistent top-half-of-the-league results. instead Groce was forced to use a SG as a PG (Abrams) and rely on a true PG (Tate) that didn't deserve a D1 scholarship. Underwood has a couple of good pieces. He needs to pick up a few more. IMO you give him this year to show improvement and then next year is tourney and good conference finish or bust. Start over at that point and let the next guy have a couple of good pieces to work with while the 3rd rebuild begins.
