  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 11:01 AM) Oh F'in A! O'Brien's NBC departure leaves bits behind What a load of horsecrap. Unless Conan used the actual masturbating bear costume, there's nothing NBC can do. He could just start up the masturbating cow or something and be fine.
  2. yeah, Illinois definitely quit about 2 minutes into the 2nd half.
  3. wow, what a surprise, lucas takes 3 steps, no call. edit: lol, the "euro-step" - ok greg anthony, apparently you now get 2.5 steps without traveling.
  4. Illinois just can't buy a bucket. Getting inside, getting a lot of shots they want, just nothing going in.
  5. Gotta love the big ten officiating. Letting guys play, but the slightest drag of the foot is a travel. I think that's 6 now on Illinois.
  6. Time for Illinois to come out swinging and make a statement. Hopefully at worst they lose a tight, competitive game.
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) NFL Games Contain 11 Minutes of Action Same with baseball. That's the best feature of the MLB At Bat App (and maybe even mlb.com has the same) - the ability to watch an entire game in 12 minutes.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) I'm pretty sure the people who write the episodes that darlton doesn't are told how the episode needs to start, what majors things happen, and how it ends. So basically the only two people on the planet who have any idea whats happening with that show are darlton. What does that have to do with anything? The staff of writers still wrote the vast majority of the series. So they were given a framework? That's what would happen in any subsequent show (i.e., they have the framework of what's already been revealed about the island/it's people/whatever). They're the ones with the knowledge/skills to continue on within the world that the Lost creatores have created. This may have been "darlton's" story, but that doesn't mean someone else can't create a seperate one.

There are tons of writers on the show. Yes, Cuse and Lindeloff have the final say, but I think some other people could take the reins and do just fine. Here's an interesting read on what could have been for the series: http://scifiwire.com/2010/01/20-crazy-things-that-near.php
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) Yea, but being a hypocritical douche doesn't help his cause at all. what politician isn't a hypocritical douche?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 08:51 AM) Heck, how much could they do on the original Jacob story? We'll have to see how much of it they cover. They make it clear in the season 5 finale that this battle or conflict between Jacob and that other guy has been going on forever. So there's no reason they couldn't shift the focus from a group of people that crashed on the island on a plane to a group that crashed on the island on a slave ship. And they may or may not answer this, but there could be a lot of stories about the temple, the 4 toed statute, etc. Basically how these places came to be, where the others came from, how they've continued to exist from generation to generation, etc.
  13. I'm only a couple of hours into ACII, but so far so good. It is a pretty immersive world they've created.
  14. Jenksismyhero replied to retro1983hat's topic in SLaM
My argument would be that they could set up a different story in the same setting, adding to the "world" they've created. It depends on how much of the past they show in season 6, but I would be VERY interested in a show about the history of the island. You could essentially create the same show but circa the 18th century (the black rock crew for example), or even ancient times. I agree that Star Trek is different; a very basic story - searching the universe - with stories contained within the episodes. But at the same time, Lost broke the mold on a new generation of scripted television. Who's to say they couldn't continue reinventing the wheel? I think at the very least ABC has to get some writers together to see what they can come up with. It's too good of a story not to. The biggest issue is whether they can recreate the insanse amount of details that cause people to research obscure things (philosophy, religion, books, music, whatever) to see how it fits and to talk about it with their friends afterwards.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) She's also going to be running against an incumbent who is probably on the upswing of an economy. Note that I did NOT say the GOP can't win the race in 2012. They might. But Palin will spend so much time tripping over herself, she couldn't possibly win. I'm no Palin fan, and I do find her to be a raging idiot, but would it really be that bad? She's pledging massive change in government just like Obama did. And what has changed? What has he done? Seems to me like he's extended nearly every policy that Bush had in place before he left (and which Obama claimed were the worst ideas ever). Fact is the candidates say one thing, but when elected they can't do any of it. The country is no worse off in her hands than in Obama's, and I truly believe that. Both are controlled by their masters ($$$).
  16. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 14, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) But Bill Clinton is the same way! Ugh. With Billy, everyone knew he was whoring. Newt b****ed about the whoring, talked about how bad Billy is, and was doing it at the same time. Go screw a tree, Newt. He can screw anything he wants so long as his policies make sense and he's got some good ideas (which I think he does). He's clearly the best name on that list. But that's not saying much.

    Um, seriously?

Finished up Season 5 last night. Probably a little too early since we still have 2.5 weeks to go. Still TONS of questions to answer. And it seemed to me that Jacob fully expected to be killed. He basically asked for it. I'm guessing that in order to "prove" to the other guy what he's trying to prove, he's willing to sacrifice himself for it.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 07:12 PM) on the original XBox, it was retread after retread. On the 360, Madden 10 was vastly different from Madden 09. I'm talking in-game mechanics. I'm talking tackling, catching, running, etc. 10 years was an exagerration, but it has been a LONG time since they've done anything to change Adding 4-5 tackling animations doesn't count either. In essence all they do is add a feature here or there, update the rosters, and call it a new game. For a franchise that's been around for 25 years, I'd expect some major innovation at least once every few years. I'm hoping this non-licensed football game that's about to come out (can't remember the name, but just read an article about it on IGN or Gamespot a week ago) will create some competition. Supposedly it's reinventing the mechanics of a football game.
  21. Sounds to me like a perfect match all around.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 13, 2010 -> 06:22 AM) Look at the Illini, 4-0 & 1st place in the Big Ten!!!!! (Please disregard the fact they have played 3 at home and against 4 of the worst 5 teams in the conference) I don't know what DeChellis told his players in the huddle, but thanks to Talor Battle for taking 4 straight awful shots with the game on the line Looks like McCamey might have finally turned a page and might be able to start leading the team. I dont know if Tisdale just finally started getting laid or something but he has suddenly turned into a man, showing aggression and finally dunking the f***ing basketball. Too bad Davis is pulling the disappearing act now. I wasnt a big fan of Jim Jackson as an analyst last night, it almost seemed like he talked too much, and just tried to sound lilke he knew everything. Big props to Evan Turner, its not easy to overshadow a guy who hits 8 3's in a half, but he did, huge win for the Buckeyes. He is beyond awful. He jumps in with "analysis" only when it suits what he says. He talks about McCamey coming off the bench and learning to make good decisions, and then McCamey pulls up on a 1 on 4 break with a long 2 pointer and makes it. Jackson just gushes about how that's such a great decision (wrong) and how that's more proof of McCamey's mental change. In reality it was an awful shot and an awful decision that just happened to go in. After yet another game that should have been a blow out, I'm beginning to realize this team is average at best. They have two really good players (Tisdale and McCamey) and one really good freshman (Richardson). But beyond that they have a bunch of scrubs. My frustration with Mike Davis is bordering on dislike (worthless/gutless/lazy/should be benched), Brandon Paul seems to have hit a confidence barrier, Jordan and Cole provide energy but are basically average versions of Frazier (no where near the defensive ability), and the rest of the bench are nothings. It's too bad Bertrand had to redshirt. He could have been that extra offensive weapon that opened things up. And it's a good thing that Richmond is on the way. He's exactly what this team needs to be complete.
  23. pssh. they need to f*** with Madden a lot. That game hasn't been good in 10 years. Retread, retread, retread. They need a new physics engine badly.
  24. What's a realistic time table? We have until 4/30 to sign the contract, and 6/30 to close to get the $8k credit. I figure 3-4 months is pretty reasonable so long as we are active about it.

None of that on island/off island stuff has made sense to me. They've repeatedly shown that the Dharma folk and the Ben led others were able to access outside satellite feeds to see what was going on in the world. So I guess that's your answer - the island might be "lost," but it's still set enough to be able to recieve those signals. On the same note, I still dunno why Widmore couldn't find the island for so many years if he was able to go to/from the island to have his affair via the sub. Did Ben move the island after he banished Widmore? I think the answer is probably yes, because when he moved it at the end of season 4 he was smart enough to know he'd end up in Tunisia. But if that's the case, then he shouldn't have been able to return before this last time (or this nonsense he gave "Locke" about the island not allowing him back was bogus). Edit: Wait though, isn't the answer that Ben blocked all the outgoing signals in that underwater station? I don't remember the timing of everything that happened with Kimi, was that heart monitor thing after Charlie released the jamming signal?
