QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 02:30 PM) JD likes the 3 spot. and he should stay there. Quentin, should be dropped down immediately. He is young, got on fire and now the league is scouting him real well. Drop him down and get some pressure off of him.

if you cannot count on the veterans to run the bases right then they are worthless. agian the sox run themselves out of an inning.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) major suckage i don't mind if he is out, I just don't want to see rameriz in center and uribe at second.

Detriot, winning, cleveland winning, and the red hot cubs winning and we are losing to one of the worst teams in the league.

still no word on konerkos injury?

QUOTE (southsidesoxfan1983 @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) is jose drunk? his ex wife must have let the kids call for fathers day. he celebrato.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Why the F is Ramirez throwing home? Let's Pods get to 2nd. doesn't matter he would have ended up there anyway. AJ cannot throw out a 90 year old gimp. meanwhile 2-0. Nice start.

great start, this team looks completely lost.

Any word on what is wrong with him?

QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Jun 15, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) The mere mention of Andy Gonzalez brought up last nights Kosher Dog. Seriously, to look that bad against a pitcher with an 8 era and Jason Grilli showed no one was ready to play last night except Danks, and Anderson (who hit 2 balls hard & had a s/b) . I agree on your points last night, the assumption you are making is the sox not getting a different shortstop from another team, which they did by the way, but even if they didn't get OC, they could have plucked somebody better than Gonzalas. I guess my point is, it is KW's job to figure this all out. personally I think they cannot wait until Thome, Konerko and Dye leave this team. The money freed up will be immense, in the meantime you build your minors back up, so you can have a few kids ready to go when the team turns over.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) Not really, at the time of the deadline for that we had no other SS unless we wanted to risk putting Andy Gonzalez there indefinitely. Bringing back Uribe was a no-brainer, as much as it sucks the way it's unfolded after that. And what team would have taken uribe? Its KW job to understand what is there and what we can go with. He gambled that someone would want him. He lost, at least so far. Uribe is not the reason for this team losing, but he clearly stands out as a player that sucks.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 10:50 PM) Just send Uribe to the Dodgers already! The sox biggest off season calculation was signing uribe for 4.5 million. It was clearly a misstep by KW.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) It's entirely possible that Alexei may be a bit banged up too. Not bad enough to really even be reported but enough so that a couple days off would do him some good. it is possible, but I am sure he was banged up in cuba and played. I still think Uribe is being showcased. Like anyone would want the bum.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) I'm going to get bashed for this- Thome blows. He is just God awful, and we should find a way to get rid of him. Trade him for a minor leaguer, or somethin'. I say this while reading that Bonds' agent (this is where the bashing part begins) can't even get Barry signed for the MINIMUM. I can not believe that, and if that's the truth, dump Thome and get Bonds for only a year. He can do exactly what Thome does except hit for a better average with more HR. well nobody will take thome's salary, and bonds maybe in jail soon. Furthermore, it seems baseball has made a stand not to bring Bonds back into the fold. i think they want him to quietly go away.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) You find places to get him into the lineup against LHP. Tonight, you could have easily had him DH and give Quentin a day off. He was one of the top hitters in baseball last season against LHP, and now that we're struggling against LHP, you need to get him into the lineup. Why exactly is Ozuna on the roster? We just faced 3 straight lefties, and he didn't sniff the starting lineup. We have Uribe to be a backup at all three of the infield positions. Fathom, it has been reported that we tried to get lofton, I still think we are trying. that "type" of player is what is needed. Fields won't change a damn thing. Ozuna is on the roster until that "type" of move is made. In addition OZZIE the nutball like him. a better question is why do we have Uribe on the roster. Heis over paid, and over weight. he is the guy that needs to go. MY opinion.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) Didn't Paulie take some pitches in his horrid at bats? He actually walked once. But I understand what you are saying. as a team we need to collectively go up and be selective. Thats how we won on friday. It really seems like we lose focus from night to night.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) Pablo Ozuna is absolutely a waste of a roster spot. Call up Fields, and find a way to play him against LHP. so you want to platoon him with crede? stop it. He is no savior. We will win or lose with our 12 million dollar men.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) didnt take Ozzie long to get Uribe back at second. If he is in there again tomorrow, I am going to throw things at my TV. Ramirez has proven he can handle 2b WAY better that Uribe. He' a better hitter and close defensively. At the plate, he offers more than Uribe. I agree with your frustration, as I suggested to my buddy tonight, they maybe showcasing him, or Ozzie is just a crazy lunatic.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) It was frustrating tonight that when DeLaHoser did throw a fastball to our righties, they just whiffed or fouled it off. Then they were helpless, had NO CHANCE against that crap slider or offspeed in the dirt. Why couldn't our guys hit his fastball??? Hawk claims it was in the low to mid 90s. Do we tip our caps to DeLaHoser? I realize we also couldn't hit their relievers. Why can't we hit fastballs early in the count? better question, why don't we use the count to our advantage, we swung at some awful pitches tonight. Take some, have some damn disipline. Again I ahve never seen a team collectively turn on and turn off like this team does, and its day to day. Tommorrow they could score ten runs, or get only two hits. I have followed the sox since 68, this is by far the most frustrating team I have watched, because they do have the horses to win and the pitching is there.

QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) After tonight's game, do y'all still want to defend our offense? We made a starter with an ERA north of 8 runs a game look like Cy Young. How many guys struck out on the same pitch, all of which were out of the strike zone? Now, I think the guy pitched a good game. But we needed to lay off his slider until he brought it up, because most of the time it was a ball. As for Ozuna, you guys must be kidding. His OPS is below .600. Anything south of .600 is just worthless offensively. As for the middle infield, Uribe can cover it defensively. If both Cabrera and Ramirez get hurt, then we're screwed anyway. Pablo Ozuna isn't going to save us. We have middle infielders in AAA to call up in an emergency. I'd take the chance that they would produce over the certainty that Osuna won't produce. And we don't need LEFT HANDERS. We need another right handed bat. Did you see what a bad lefty did to us tonight? He killed us. Joe Crede absolutely can't hit lefties this year. And plenty of other guys appear to suck at it too. Again, I'll take Fields because he's the only guy in our system that has proven he can hit major league pitching. If we had someone else, fine. Name him and I'll be happy to bring him up instead. But none of you can sit there and tell me our offense is fine. It's not. The Tigers are awake. They've won 5 in a row. They're coming. Another tailspin like we had earlier and we won't be in first place at the All Star break, much less September. Now, I think we can pull out of this funk, but I think it's going to take the shake up that Ozzie called for, and not just the tirade, but the actual movement of ballplayers. We're playing with a 23-man roster. We need 25 guys all pulling their weight if we want to be playing in October this year. Ok Your right we should call up fields, can you make the call? can you make it happen? he will make all the difference, YOU CERTAINLY CONVINCED ME. He is a god. He is tearing up the minors. I know you will play him all over the infield and outfield and DH. He is a jack of all trades, he is great at every position. Please get this done, so I do not have to here this again. how long will you keep this up? Lets call it your way. your right, fields should be up, what else would you like? Please tell us. who should be traded? who else should be called up? what else should we do?

you cannot continue with this lineup , mix the damn thing up. move people around. Quentin looks like someone just shot his dog. Furthermore how about a little advanced scouting on these pitchers. Crap we make these pitchers look fantastic. We are at home, its summer, and we get three hits. its crazy. Furthermore the book is out on AJ. just run on the guy, you have a great chance of being safe.
-
now we are 4.5 up, and don't look now but the tigers are catching fire. Hate to wake them up.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 08:36 PM) AJ hasn't done anything so far to warrant being taken out of the 2 spot. He's been fine there. Not counting today's 2 hits, he's hitting .390 in June with a OPS over 900. In fact I will even go so far as to say that dropping him in the order right now would be a pretty dumb thing to do. AJ is not a 2 hitter, It is not a negative to move him to a more normal spot. Put the missle at 2 and move AJ down. Take questin and bat him 6 or 7. The lineup needs a mix. Most teams don't need to do these things, but our pure number 2 hitter is hitting leadoff, and our number 6 hitter is hitting 2. The high priced players don't hit, quentin our best player, has found out the league is scouting him well. MIX IT UP.
-
I have never seen a team collectively all shut down at the same time. In addition, I have been calling to drop quentin from the three spot for the last week. it is clearly time, in addition its time to move AJ from the 2 spot as well. Time to shake this crap up. Get the missle back in and bat him second.
