  1. You know I believe its just that the sox would like some contact hitters rather than long ball big swing guys. Fields is not that type of hitter. His time will come but not now, and not this team. This team needs speed, contact, and quite frankly a left handed hitter off the bench. My hope is that they are still pursuing lofton. I personally think lofton is waiting for the Cubs, but hopefully they don't come calling. I hope we can bury this thread sometime. There is nothing more really to say about this.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 04:49 PM) I hope Esteban recovers from the shoulder inflamation and comes back to help the Sox win a pennant. your kidding right? there is no shoulder inflamation.
  3. lofton might have been waiting around for the cubs but they just signed Ben Broussard so you never know he just might make it here if nobody calls in the next couple of weeks.
  4. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) If not already. Tons of reclamation projects available as we speak. just stay away from tomko, I am sure they won't bite because AJ will probably blow his head off, but that guy could be on my list of one of the worst pitchers who has nine lives.
  5. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) One thing about Adam Russell, he comes right at you and isn't afraid of the bat, like MacDougal. His control hasn't been the best in AAA though, he's been walking a guy every other inning. I like him and hopefully he contributes. If he ends up being a mop up guy like loiaza then who cares, I just think as the time wears on they will want a veteran guy. they will be available after this month.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) It's more the travel and the schedule that wears on the player than the game itself. Flying every three days with packing, buses to hotels and getting everything ready is taxing. as the trainer I would be at the park at 11-12 for a 7 game to take care of injuries and stretch or help the players work out. Get the players ready and the game lasts until 10 or 10:30. Spend from 10:30-11:30 looking at various minor injuries. Then need to get the players who work out after ready, if we were staying in town. Get back to the hotel at 1-2 to be back at the park at 11-12. If we had a midnight or 1 am flight to the next city we had to pack everything up quickly and get to the next hotel around 6-7 am depending on the length of the flight and get back to the park in only 4-5 hours. A day game after a night game is murder. What I'm saying is that while it isn't physically taxing or rough as football, ask anyone who travels for a living it is mentally taxing and the focus you need to hit a baseball is not there all of the time due to the schedule. this is where the amphetamines or "greenies" were effective. this does make sense, looks like alot of red bull.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) Good, Loaiza had no business pitching for this team. You know fathom, I think they are looking for a veteran. when your in a race, you want veterans not rookies. You want people who know situations. I think they were looking for leadership and a stable presence. We don't know what we will get with russell. I hope its good, in the meantime, the sox will continue to look for more veterans.
  8. Having a veteran presence in the middle of a pennant race is a good idea. Its really not about if owens is better or not, and more about what to do in certain situations. The whitesox forgot how to run bases in detriot and a little lofton might have helped. A guy like that would be a nice fill in.
  9. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) Then why play him? completely agree, ozzie has done this crap all year, first konerko not quentin. everyone can se questin has not been the same recently. He has dropped 20 points in the last week or so on his average. Give him a day off.
  10. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 11:43 AM) Harrelson just commented that Carlos Quentin has a bad right hand he's battling. Bruised, swollen, etc. hecne they should drop him in the order. on another note the 3rd or fourth inning is usually an inning that Buerhle gets in trouble. At least it appears that way.
  11. QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 07:07 AM) From the Trib today: Konerko rests Manager Ozzie Guillen said Paul Konerko needed a break, so he didn't start his first baseman Wednesday night and will have him fulfill the designated-hitter duties in Thursday's series finale at Detroit. "Besides that, the last couple of weeks he has maxed out mentally about hitting and needs to shut it down for a couple days," Guillen said of Konerko, who is 8-for-21 but still is batting only .217. Guillen downplayed the fact that Konerko is 3-for-24 lifetime against Detroit starter Justin Verlander. "I just look at how the player feels," Guillen said. "Right now it starts warming up and it gets hot and humid. You'll see bench players get more playing time." **************** I just want one of those bench players to be Josh Fields instead of Pablo Ozuna. With Fields, instead of a step down, we might even get some stepped up production on those rest days. He certainly hits lefties better than Joe Crede is doing this year, and better than Jim Thome has done over the last three years. Konerko, meanwhile, is still hurt. we get it, your in Fields pants, but it won't happen. Fields will not be called up here unless two things happen 1) Crede gets Hurt 2) Crede is traded. Thats it. Fields cannot play any other position in the MLB. So you can keep bringing this up thread after thread, to remind us all everyday that Fields is the savior, but I really don't think the sox will move on this thought unless one of the two mentioned above happens.
  12. everyone calm down, this is not worth any aggravation. Garcia sucks, some people like the thread, some people don't,nobody really cares. The sox are losing and were here bickering about some washed up dude with his arm in a sling. We are in first place by 5.5 games, we need to win on thursday to get momentum back for the homestand. start a new thread somebody so we all can move on.
  13. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) Why would you ever consider it useful to tell a poster his threads are a waste of time? I highly doubt posters here sit at there computer and think to themselves, "What's the most useless post I can make today?" My stance on Garcia is that I wouldn't pick him up. I think they got Loaiza for most of the reasons he's already explained. personally I never said it was a waste of time despite the fact I thought it was, it really doesn't matter. If garcia can pitch, Ozzie will know first, and that will be that. Its really two damn months away. along time, including a trading deadline will come before this guys pitches.
  14. what are you with? the sox picking up garcia? bringing up Josh Fields? or that you enjoy the thread starters? I am sure everyone has opinions on everything, and just like the fact you like Vafans threads there are many that feel he just likes to see his name in print. This is truly not a big deal. People will have all sorts of opinions, we are all right and all wrong everyday. Therefore, if someone wants to call a thread a waste of time, so be it, if someone wants to keep it going, thats great. I personally cannot wait until a thread is started about getting Jon Rauch back. Maybe it will be started by a nationals fan?! Signed Barack Obama.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) Trying awful hard to remake this team, aren't you? This guy starts alot of threads.
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) One thing to consider is the decrease in PED use especially amphetamines. The older players stats will be worth watching for a decrease in performance during August and Sept. The energy drinks that are now prevalent in the dugouts will only go so far. These factors may require a closer look at rest but closer to the end of July and August. The nagging injuries may take a greater toll on the players. i love this angle, I am not against giving rest, I am just against giving rest now that the team is starting to hit on all cylinders. You ride the wave. Quentin is a guy who has never played all year, swisher is out of positon and dye and konerko are old. You have to rest them I understand, just not now when they are heating up.
  17. QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) Agree on Fields and would love to see a speed guy but who do you move off the team? Not that the current guys are the be-all end-all but the only odd man out I see is Uribe. And despite his lack of hitting prowess he does have value to this team as a defensive backup and/or insurance policy. Not to mention those good speed guys don't grow on trees. If it happens then you move uribe. If it doesn't then you don't, it would be the same if fields came up. Who would you move? Same thing. I actually cannot believe I am contributing to this stupid thread. I break my own rules sometime.
  18. I actually don't understand this thread, this team won 7 in a row, in first place by 6 games. all the hitters mentioned are starting to hit, they need to stay in the lineup. Taking them out now for a 250 strike out hitter in the minors makes little sense. Konerko won two games for us last week, crede, was player of the week, Thome was three for four yesterday, and dye has been one of our more consistant players this year, swisher is starting to hit the ball very well. Lets wait a bit, until these guys really get tired. Right now is the wrong time. I am certain the sox will add a speed guy within a month, whether thats little hit owens or lofton or someone else. That will be your guy that will spell dye, swisher, and konerko (through swisher moving to first). Fields is not the answer.
  19. QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 11, 2008 -> 06:30 AM) On a couple of threads now, I've floated the idea of bringing up Josh Fields. I still think it's a good idea. He's not tearing up AAA, but he's hitting fine down there. Slugging .497. OPS at .834. Whatever ailment he had, it seems behind him, as he's played regularly the last 10 games. What Fields' presence would allow for that the Sox don't do very well is to rest guys regularly. Here are 4 guys that could benefit if Fields were brought up. 1. Konerko (32) -- bad thumb. If he's not going on the DL, he needs to sit 1-2x a week to rest it. 2. Thome (37) -- should sit against lefties. His 3-year OPS against lefties is .669; righties 1.101. (Yes, he's hitting lefties better this year, for the first time ever. Don't expect it to hold. If it does, then sit him against some righties.) 3. Crede (30) -- back issues. After day off last week, went on a tear for several days, then didn't hit the last 2-3. Should sit at least 1x/week regularly. 4. Dye (34) -- not getting any younger. Between Brian Anderson and Josh Fields, we could sit these guys more often. And, by having Fields as the sub instead of Ozuna, our offense would not suffer as a result. Plus, Nick Swisher could get a break once a week too. Fields would cover Thome and Crede. Anderson would cover Dye (Swisher to RF), Konerko (Swisher to 1B), and Swisher. Both subs would get 3-4 games a week, which should keep them fresh too. Defense would not suffer. so you bring this up, while these guys are starting to get hot.
  20. I am not sure why i burn Dotel for two innings here. Seems silly in a losing situation.
  21. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) I don't have any inside info, but I can see Crede staying. 1. The Sox can afford his raise by letting Cabrera and Uribe walk and having the young infield of Ramirez at short and Richar at 2nd. 2. Fields, Ramirez, Richar would be pretty young with at least 2 question marks. 3. Crede has demonstrated health, will still have some prime years, and is extremely unlikely to be a product of performance enhancement. 4. Defense has value to an organization that values pitching. 5. Crede seems to be a good clubhouse guy from what I've heard and read. 6. He's hitting pretty well. Good health may cut down on those epic slumps of the past. 7. Crede has said that he wants to stay and certainly knows the Boras controversy. 8. He's clutch. Freakishly clutch. 9. Sox should have continued payroll stability if attendance continues to improve with better weather and a team 6.5 games in first. 10. The fans like him and it would be a nice PR move similar to the Pauly and Mark signings. 11. Hopefully the Sox will have the 2008 Championship to defend. 12. Fields would have nice trade value to fill another need and his talk of quitting due to the clubhouse is not a huge issue but is noteworthy. 13. Sox drafted a 3b in the 3rd round of this years draft. 14. They have said that there will be no negotiations during the year. Just like Mark and JD. I'm sure KW would listen especially if Boras was out of the picture. 15. The Danks Family fired him for a reason. Joe and John are bound to talk a little. 16. I have a gut feeling. I'm sure the Sox will pay Jordan Danks better than 7th round money but he will not pull Reinsdorf's gold fillings with pliers the way Boras would have. I'm sure the Sox had an idea what it would take before he was drafted and it would be a good idea to threat John's little brother fairly. Jordan is a nice prospect, but John Danks has proven himself and less than 2 years ago he was in AA. We have not even seen his full potential. wow lots of info here, whatever happens happens.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) Juan Uribe is worthless at this point, I'd like to replace him with a serious LH bat off the bench. Would love a base stealing threat as well. I think they are seeing if ramirez can keep handling second base over the longer term without burning out. If so Uribe should be gone and I bet owens gets called back up. Just a hunch.
  23. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 06:26 PM) bar talk people? you mean drunks? Thats why popular told me not to post, but I thought it was a good segway. For full disclosure Popular has this information but we do not know if the sources are reliable. I am not starting anything, I just thought it was a good segway. Nothing to believe, unless of course it is true!
